I remember eating at this restaurant in 1981 with my wife, English teacher and his wife. I never ate tororo before and it is an acquired taste. I thank you for making this video and how fast time goes by.
I am a black American woman. About 35 years ago, I danced as a Show Girl around the world, including in Japan. I lived there for a year in tow 6-month stints. I still marvel at the perfection and dedication that the Japanese have towards work/skills and life. I have mad respect for their culture. 🙏🏽

“I still marvel at the perfection and dedication…” Decades ago, a teacher of mine, in organizational culture, happened to mention that Japanese culture had, as one of its core values, _perfection_ (whereas, by contrast, US culture had a value of “just good enough,” or, perhaps, euphemistically called, “pragmatism”). You can see it everywhere-in the quality of its products, in the on-time performance of its trains, in the way a product is seamlessly gift-wrapped for you, even if it’s intended just for yourself. I never forgot that and admire it to this day.

I think during the video man can view almost the full spectrum of the Japanese kitchen, honestly about some food I have no clue what they are, haha. My favourite was the little balls filled with some purple thing together maybe with melon. The clean work is also amazing. Thank you for this gorgeous video.

The purple thing might be "Anko", the sweet red bean paste.

I see Kirkland brand products in that kitchen. Didn't know Costco was in Japan, but it certainly makes sense that they'd be there too.

The title says “400 years of history!” but the restaurant’s site says “Established in 1912.” What accounts for the difference?
@KZ-gj3sv4 ай бұрын
I guess that was a mistake by the website creator😅 I found the sentence 'Established in 1912' on the English top burner image, but the Japanese version says they were established in 1596 (慶長元年). You can see their history on the English page, which also states that they were established in 1596.
@jeff__w4 ай бұрын
@@KZ-gj3sv I figured that was the case but I didn’t know about the Japanese version or the history page in English. Thanks for the info! _Now_ I wonder how the website creator hit upon 1912.

What an obscure dish. Had to look it up. Tororo soup is served with cooked barley in it which probably helps offset the texture a bit.
