Playing around with 4000 series logic ICs, this is the 4013 a Dual D-type Flip-Flop.
It turns out that 'Likes' and 'Shares' actually help the channel so, if you want to, please click the thumbs up or share the video.

Nice series of educational videos and I quite like the fact that you keep them short and on point. Keep them coming, thanks!

used 2 of these in cascade for a 4-stage shift register, to select 4 different PWM speeds generated by a 555 timer. Didn't have a dedicated shift register type IC but did have a boatload of these :) 4000 and 7400 series are hobbyists heaven :)

this is a wonderful series. thank you maybe you could make more of this kind: 4046, hex inverter oscillators and their patching and permutation

David, are you 100% sure the drawing is correct? I’ve built this 3X and no go.

Hey Sarah, I am never 100% but I have just compared the diagram with the breadboarded circuit and they look the same to me. You could try the other side of the IC since it is a dual type.

@UCih5kiTQ4MKhMy_mdcI-_iw you can, it can't hurt to ground them but they should be independent of each other.

@@DavidWatts just got it working. I did ground pins 4 and 6. Also added a bypass cap across the 4013 power pins. Thanks, neat circuit. If you like, please take a look at my channel as well. I build and sell 8 and 16 step music sequencers. Happy Saturday! 🙋🏻‍♀️

Had one still alive today after being accidentally stepped on in my childhood times and stored in not so ESD safe for 20 years._

Could I use that circuit to turn a computer power supply on and off with the momentary button that is in a computer case?
@DavidWatts
@DavidWatts 6 жыл бұрын
Hi, I think that PC power supply switches are momentary connections so I don't think it would work.

If you are building a computer, the front panel buttons go to the motherboard. When you press it, it shorts a pin to ground and the power supply turns on. If you just wanted to turn on an atx power supply a flip flop is not needed. Find the pinout for the 24 pin mobo connector.

@@untrust2033 incorrect. Most are momentary green to ground connections. So one does need to latch the green to ground some way or another. I solved this by using two BC548s. One 548 has its base to green and green is also connected to the collector of both 548s. the emitter of 548 #1 goes through a push button (ON)to ground, emitter #2 is directly tied to ground. base #2 is tied to the 5V rail thru a 10k resistor(pullup) and tied directly to ground thru a second push button (OFF). Pushing button 1 causes green to latch to ground, button 2 pulls base #2 low so green to ground is severed.

You can not store 4 bits of information with just 2 flip-flops.

If you count the complementary results, there are. But indeed, only two distinct bits of information are stored.
