Playing around with 4000 series logic ICs, this is the 4051 an 8-channel analog multiplexer/demultiplexer. It takes 3bit binary select input which determines the seledcted input/output and the common input/output is used to input an analog signal or output signals coming from the selectable inputs.
Great if you want to expand the analog ability of your Arduino or other micro controller.
It turns out that 'Likes' and 'Shares' actually help the channel so, if you want to, please click the thumbs up or share the video.
If you want to get in contact Twitter is probably the best way @mrdavidjwatts

Great idea for a tutorial series, there's so many thousands of ICs you could base an entire channel on them. It'd be nice to see a series on the 7400 series too, maybe even some separate videos demonstrating the more practical applications of 1 or more of the featured ICs in the series (at least for the less obvious ones.) Cheers!

Hello! I want to use this as a hybrid mux and demux. with which pin configuration can I change the IC to the demultiplexer state of operation?

Is it necessary to put a voltage to vcc?

Hello! Could you give an idea about how to set up these bits by some ICs using a latching method (when you push a button and it switches a light... this type)? I guess that it can be done with logic chips but i don't know which of them to use and what are the common pitfalls :-/ My main reason: i need a simplest solution to make a "click-switch" device to toggle between different schem. choices (need it for the analog filter... 6dB LP/12dB LP/6dB HP/12dB HP/6 dB BP/Notch - six positions Also there will be a second route that will be switched with the same button. I guess it's not that important. Using rotary switches is a dope :) But later i'll make something paraphonic (or polyphonic) so i'll need to do this kind of switching anyway. Thanks for your channel!

You could use a rotary switch to have a physical device you are right (I really like them) or you could couple the 4051 with a 4510. The 4051 takes a BCD input and the 4510 gives a BCD output based on a clock input from your switch.

Wow great video David! How much voltage can you apply to one input port, that will be reported to the output port? Till 20Volts?
@DavidWatts
@DavidWatts 3 жыл бұрын
I though it was 15v but I have just checked the datasheet and 20v is indeed the listed maximum.

@@DavidWatts Sorry David, my last clue: if I give a big VDD(amplitude voltage) like 20Volts, the needed selectors voltage(C,B,A) should also increase? Like 2,75 Volts every 5 Volts of Amplitude voltage VDD?
@zdi9498
@zdi9498 3 жыл бұрын
So : 20V/5V=4 -->needed selector voltage=4*2,75V=11V?
@DavidWatts
@DavidWatts 3 жыл бұрын
@@zdi9498 You'd need around 70% of VIN for a high signal and 30% max for a low. That is pretty rough but should work.

I think that is kinda what this whole video is about. The only pin not detailed is the enable pin which should be put to GND.

How to use it as demux
@ezengondolkozom3700

Hi! It may be late but I think this IC is just an analog switch. So you can input any rated analog voltage on the common I/O and then it's just input impedances fighting with the host and the slave.
