Gotta remember that alot of stations are not going to get the ecoboost trim. It's alot of extra money, for about 30mph more top speed and better accel. Most rather get the hybrid but have the ballistic panels. Save for the highway patrol and troopers cause they get the toys

Mine is badged with Intimidator chrome Earnhardt emblems and she's a head turner. Cops literally watch my car go by as if she was a hot lady ha ha. I’ll be looking at them in about 5 years. Only reason I got a CVPI over a Caprice 9c3 was up front cost. Caprices are still quite a bit more expensive than Vics. Do love my Vic though.

Relax, less than 1% of police interceptors will have the 400 horsepower engine. The the 365hp engine was also just as rare in last year's model.

Not rare at all. Most State agencies like the Highway Patrol buy the EcoBoost models as do larger municipalities. Small Cities buy the lowest hp model due to having a no pursuit policy within city limits. So, that being said, if you get one behind you on the highway, you aren't getting away.

The Police interceptor that you need to worry about is the newer Dodge Charger with a 5.7 Hemi and all wheel drive it makes 380 HP 390 torque and with all wheel drive dos 0-60 in 5 seconds rain or shine.

A squad car I never hoped to encounter was the newer Chevy Caprice. My home town had a few, and GM was ever so nice enough to put supercharged 6.0L engines in them. I think they made something around the 550 to 600 HP, and with all the additional weight added, they could still manage around 190 top speed and 0-60 in around 3.6 seconds. Luckily they were only given to supervisors, but every car guy and street racer knew when the supervisors were bored and out patrolling.

Stab-resistant seats and ballistic door panels as well as trunk-pack were on Crown Vic P71's as well. The Crown can also be easily repaired or continue operation after serious accidents,where the Explorer is pretty much disposable. The Explorer also takes very little driving skill,unlike the Crown,where more of the driver was involved. I'll keep my P71 as long as I can.

Nah. They're covered....at least our fleet was. Same exhaust issues. All of ours were replaced (2016-17 models). The only other issue are turbos going out. High idle times with the 2016-2017 models are causing leaks with the turbo, or some other leak, causing excessive white / blueish smoke emitting from the exhaust.

My first patrol car was a 2011 Vic. I loved the heck out of that car. Once it was retired & taken out of service I was put in a 2017 Ford SUV and I could not stand it. I don't care how fast it is or how much storage space it has, it'll never be as comfortable or reliable as my old Vic. One thing missed in the intro telling all about the features of the interceptor, but one thing was left out. Both FCA Law vehicles and Ford Police Interceptor units offer available "Approach sensors" that use rear park assist sensors and radar systems that alert officers in the car that a person is approaching the vehicle. The Dodge/FCA Law ones only play a chime and turn on the backup camera. But the ford ones play a chime, lock the doors, turn on the rear camera, and roll up the windows. The Dodge/FCA unit is free on all FCA Law vehicles, but I think the Ford one is an optional extra.

I used to install radios, lights kits, sirens, etc into the stock cars that come in from ford, chrysler and gm. Also did school buses, ambulances, fire apparati, etc. One very cool part was always the testing phase, and the "moving it around the lot to accomodate other vehicles or for pickup" phase. Or when the officer would come by with a virgin or faulty car, and they'd either hand you the key, or you'd just use the shop's own fleet key to drive them around. tldr: Having cops need you to drive and fix their cars is cool.

I have a 2015 3.7 police interceptor utility, and it's more than enough for daily driving! Accelerate pretty fast, thanks for police tuned transmission, very stable at curves...and only 300-310 HP, instead of new 400 HP ecoboost which realy beast

The anti stab plates were in the crown vic's as well. They aren't visible because they are within the seat. Same with the ballistic panels. These aren't new features.

The stab/ballistic plates, seat materials, and modified tune/shift aren't anything new, they're carried as options from the Crown Vic. After testing both the vehicles, I can definitely say the CVPI takes more effort to drive but the new AWD is unbeatable. It will be interesting how the direct injection of the EcoBoost will handle the time spent idling with its oiling issues...

I met a state trooper driving a newer Charger and I can tell you that they're a lot faster!.. He was willing to pop the hood and show me and to my surprise they're doing some serious performance stuff now so watch your asses out here in CT folks lol.. He had to run because he got a pretty serious call but he told me to stop by his hiding spot just off the highway if I ever wanted to BS for a bit and hell I probably will because he's one helluva cool dude and I wish more troopers and townies had his kind of attitude. Great people make even greater officer's!.

I still don’t see why the Crown Vic is brought up so often, especially since it’s almost completely retired, long retired from most major departments. It handles like a battle ship, not a sedan, definitely not like a patrol car. I’ve got the taurus, not fast by any means, and is considerable on the CAT scale, but still out performs the vic. Chomping at the bit to see the Explorer, the things that those things are able to to are brilliant, especially for an SUV.
