Good for you Mike... Looks adequate enough for what you will be using it for. You understand GVW's & sized it according to your needs, well done. I sold my 18 ft. Bri-Mar 10,000 GVW equip. trailer back in '08 as I bought it new in '03 primarily to pick up my new JD 990 back in the day. Turned out to be the ONLY time I used it! I parked it in my lower field rolled up on poplar planks & tarped over. Sat there for (5) years! A friend was in need of a trailer & I sold it to him, I took a $300.00 loss but at least it got put to work... What I saved in NO SALES TAX by picking up the tractor myself, covered HALF the cost of the trailer! The key with this kind of purchase is putting it to good use on a reg. basis as that was not the case with me... :~( Bill on the Hill... :~) PS: I assume the new Lariat has the trailer tow option, the squat looked minimal from my vantage point...

Congrats on the new trailer Mike. Agree a dump is a very useful item to own. I have an enclosed trailer, a toyhauler, and a deckover. Of the three, the Deckover is the most useful. It comes in handy when loading building material and loading with a forklift. Watching you load the ranger, if you do buy something for heavier loads, consider something with small drop downs in the back to keep from lifting the rear wheels of the tow truck off the ground when loading. If you are on a hill the whole thing could roll down hill as a result.

Mike, I would suggest buying 2 weld on trailer tongue jacks and welding them to the back corners of the trailer. I broke the frame in half on my tandem axle trailer loading my 35hp yanmar before I put the jacks on mine. Now it is rock solid when I load it.

Heck yea Mike, now you can haul more than 2 IBC totes at a time. If you have long enough straps you can double stack those totes on that trailer, just strap the bottom ones independently and then put ones on top and strap it.
@mikem39295 жыл бұрын
i know everyone is saying to put jack stands under the trailer to keep the truck from raising in the back BUT, if your loading the tractor on uneven ground and the backhoe is going to drag, take a piece of 6x6 and put under the trailer jack/dolly at the front and crank it so it lifts the front of the trailer (rear of truck) and that will take some of the angle away from the ramp. ( old drag racing trick for loading cars with low hanging headers) it works... and get 2 wheel chocks one for the trailer one for the front of the truck.. looks like a great purchase, congrats!

BUT I did fabricate and install a drop jack at both rear corners to stop that lifting on my truck. I'd strongly recommend you have a look at this too. That's a great looking trailer you have, you're going to glad you got this one, I'll bet!

Nice trailer. Check with your state DMV and perhaps any other state that you will be travelling through as to the license weight requirements for your truck and trailer together. The tongue weight adds to the truck weight. See what your truck license GVW is. Copy the info and keep in the truck so you can quote a section if need be. A commercial state truck inspector should have the right answers. You don't want to have a problem.

Heck of a nice trailer Mike . Hauling long stuff , it will come in handy . Had to bring home some 12 footers and a couple of 14ft boards and I used my 14ft trailer . It's better than hanging pieces in the back of a pick-up that only has a short box . Plus you can haul junk and not get the back of your truck dirty . I hate a dirty or scratched up box . Maybe add some tie down rings on the inside of the trailer . I had them weld D rings along both sides of the frame . Don't know how strong the sides are but I wouldn't want to tie down any thing super heavy to them . I would add some jacks to the back of the trailer . Use them when loading something like the tractor . I noticed your truck lift up pretty high when you put that tractor on . Don't need any extra stress on the hitch and ball . Besides with jacks you can load anything with out the trailer being hooked up to the truck. Like someone said more room for more totes . LOL . Two videos in 1 day . Yea . Thanks Mike .

I have the same style trailer and hauled a 3720 John deere with 300cx loader with wheel weights on it about 50 miles with my 3/4 ton Dodge, it will haul it, getting very close to the 7k limit though with a 3 series that is for sure. Tractor is about 4000 lbs. I agree though the ramps are a little light on mine too. Bought my trailer used though so cupping the mesh a little wasn't the end of the world for me when driving in on and tried to keep tires on the angle iron.

18’ was smart. We purchased a 16’ and the quad seat benching just fits leaving not much room for anything else. My only comment on this video and the trailer was.....no mention of tie downs! You made the comment about a dump trailer I have owned mine for about 25 years and I love it. It is a Work Horse model 12,000 pound. I haul my New Holland TC33d in it and pull it with a 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 with a Cummins and it still pulls great . There are a few things I am on the fence about with it. 1st it has a twin cylinder ram on it and it just does not seem to lift like I think it should. 2nd the battery life is not the greatest, when I first got it I was pulling it with a 1994 Chevy 1/2 ton and it would not keep the battery charged up that well I would only get 2 or 3 dumps out of it and the battery would be dead. With the Dodge the alternator is much larger since It has the Cummins and the battery charges much faster. I have heard that the single cylinders are much better but I have not owned one.I haul dirt, stone, fire wood, and anything I do not want to put in my truck. Take it for what you want this is just my experience over the last 25 years. Thank for the videos they are great. Hi Hunter from Rochester Indiana

Maybe get a trailer with a tongue brake system and the capacity to tow your new Kabota Excavator [being the heaviest piece you can put any other of your pieces on it]. What's that excavator way 6 ton and some? That way you save tread wear on those tracks when nipping down to your mom's or sisters... uncles, Levy at the brick house. Do you ever scan the auction sites for the heavy equipment 2nd hand? Can't really tell on line the actual shape of things until you go to the lot and check out whatever it is you're interested in. Cool stuff.

I noticed the trailer picked up the rear of the truck a lot. I put swivel down tongue jacks on the back corners of my trailer after I learned the hard way!! I was putting a tractor on the trailer when it picked up the truck with park brake set and it all took off. It stopped after the truck and trailer jack-knifed and caved in the side of the bed. Welded on each back corner a swivel type screw jack and fixed it!!!!

Those little trailers come in handy. I hate the side rails on a trailer. You can't get doors open on vehicles when they are loaded. Mine is 7000 lb weight limit. It hauls my wife's 38 hp tractor with a front end loader and a couple of implements fine. A quad cab pickup is almost too heavy for it. I live in a free state. GVWR doesn't mean anything, you can weight what ever you want to pay for a tag for a truck or trailer.

I've got a 16' trailer that I use to haul my stuff (John Deere 1025R basically the same as the RK24 and a John Deere 3032E basically the same as the RK37). E brake won’t help if rear tires on truck leave the ground. Nice trailer though. The only draw back to the side rails is that it makes it very difficult to load any palletized material. Has many good points also. U will get a lot of use out of that. U will really enjoy a dump trl. I use mine all the time. Saves shoveling the material off. At 74 I’m all about easier lol. Nice trailer Mike. I went with the same style in a 14' and wish I'd went 16'. If you ever have problems with loading and something dragging use a couple 2x8,10 or 12's and put them from the bottom of the ramp to the ground for less incline at the bottom. It's an old race car trick because they sit so low. Nice video!

Congrats Mike. Nice trailer. You’ll love it. I have a very similar trailer. Big Tex 16’. Suggestions. Get very strong tie downs. They usually come with light weight junk. Get a spare tire and mount it on the trailer. Get a small tongue trailer box for holding your ratchet straps. Always load on level ground. Set the backhoe on the deck when traveling. Check the wood deck yearly. Mine started rotting around 3 years old and I replaced the deck around 5 years. With my F150 I can track the miles of my trailers and maintain as needed. Good luck 👍

I have the Croft version of that trailer with 7k axels and both have brakes. If you're like me and people that (don't) have a landscape company or need to haul equipment every day that trailer may sit most of the time. They make a half moon axel jack you can back onto that catches the axel as you roll under it, it lifts the tires a little so they don't get flat spots. I like the way the wires are routed! I've had half a dozen trailers of different types over the years and every time I go to use one the lights wouldn't work. This Croft is run through a dedicated pipe but wires still come out at every junction where there is a light. First thing I did when I got it home was open every light and ground each one separately. Had it 8 years and it's the only trailer that the lights haven't been a pain! Like the hinge assist and beefed up ramp!

Mike, nice trailer but for those heavier equipment loads I welded two extra trailer Jack's that pivot to the rear of the trailer on the outside rails so their always there and can swing out of the way when not in use. Work great for us! Just a thought, also thought you would of got a dump trailer since you want a dump truck? I guess the truck would not be able to handle it with the dump trailer gvw. So that's why you got the landscape instead?

I have had to unload my JD 3025E from my Ranch King trailer without the trailer being hooked up to my pickup. I merely stacked 3 or 4 pave stones under both sides of the back of the trailer frame. Then I just back it off very slowly. I would not advise trying to load the trailer like this, though.

Just a word of caution.. I noticed that the rear of your truck got really light when you loaded the TLB.. You need to get yourself some chuck blocks for the trailer wheels. Hey Mike, Excellent job on the videos, we appreciate all the help and info. A question for you regarding the weight rating of your tandem axle trailer you reviewed. You said the axles were each rated for #3500 with a total of #7000 capacity. You the deducted about #2450 (forgot the exact weight), the total weight of the trailer to determine the net loading/hauling capacity. I think you may have deducted too much and here's why. When determining load/weight capacity you should not deduct un-sprung weight. That is to say, the axles and tires, brakes etc are not being supported by the leaf springs and therefor not part of the load. You should really only be deducting the deck, ramps and tongue weights. This would raise your load capacity on this trailer by an estimated 600+ pounds. And on a minor note you can also add back to your capacity the tongue weight which, if your load is distributed properly, should be #200 - #300. This could reduce your weight deduction to about #1600 thus making your usable load #5400. Let me know if you agree or disagree and if I'm in error. Thank you, Mark
