Enjoyable look at the past. The shocking part for me was the news boys who worked hard trying to work and maybe attend school, they had no shoes and perhaps no coat being awake long hours such was the life of the poor people.

Si elle n’est pas truquée, l’image du policier pendu au dessus du vide est assez impressionnante.

A big history lover, I always enjoy looking at your photos of the past. We have only you left to thank as those who had the presence of mind to take these photographs that inadvertently or otherwise, served to document their times, have long departed the earth and are as the dust we often see captured within them. Thank you.

The only shocking thing is that children had to work at such a young age. That poor 4 year old boy selling newspapers....😢

I heard that that old movie with Harold Loyd hanging off the clock hands 'high up'... was actually just a mirror trick. Thinking about it... he did not look stressed in the movie.... like he was facing imminent d3@th.

These photos bring back memories of some good times and many of those which I never want to relive. Times were very hard but using ones imagination and hands on work made things so much better. The husbands were in the service during World War 2 so the wives /woman had to learn to do the things men ,at that time, did. In our area there were 10 or so women who lived alone, my Mother had 2 children and stayed home, she was a very good cook and several women would give her their rashion stamps. She would do their cooking with enough for herself and her sister. This system worked very well. There was also a veg garden which provided all of their seasonal produce. The closeness of these women was so valuable, everyone ate well, my brother and I were well taken care of, and all was shared. This is what is missing today...sharing!

Hello 40 Historical Files Crew! I just want to say, being a shutter-bug myself, that these pictures are wonderful. My medium is black and white. There is a certain drama about it and sometimes they can have that creepy edge. Thanks again and ya'll be safe and be well.📷😊

my favorite photo just 0:41 in is the man in the side car .. my oldest son has a motorcycle w/ blue sidecar.. I drew a picture of him operating it from the side car with a steering wheel.. we all had a good laugh and I'm having one while telling the story -- if I lean around the corner from my pc I can see it on the frig-- it's a very good likeness if I do say so myself! of him and the bike minus the goofy steering wheel =P =) I am of the opinion bookmobiles should be brought of history vaults! the cliff house lived up to its name back in the day.. nowadays it should be called Farther In Off The Cliff House.. =P 10ish years ago my sons and I were served a delicious brunch!!! luv the picture of the people on the path in Scotland.. it's a dream of mine to go someday! backtracking a bit-- it amazes me that tugboats have the power to guide and move and pull ships!! the wee lass with her chocolate egg on her face is precious.. when I was a kid in the 50's and 60's I didn't like those things- who remembers exlax? the eggs and it had a similar taste as I recall.. ugh!! also, invariably I'd somehow get a piece of foil in my mouth :( the portraits of mother and daughter cheek to cheek and Ella Karlsson are beautiful!! they seem to me to jump off the page and say 'here we are'. the Dale Creek Crossing bridge has a sad and aggravating story behind it. progress sent a death knell over the town of Sherman that grew up nearby.
