It is standard imperial guard protocol that when the guardsmen are fighting there enemies that they have something Far scarier behind them to keep them from running away. For the most part this is the why the commissar stand in the back of most units. Krieg is very devoted to following imperial guard protocol. This is why there commissioner lead the charge. Makes you realize just how scary they really are

True, some characters wear long overcoats and peaked caps, but the Nazis were hardly the only ones to do so. Angular crosses have been used by the Prussian and later German army as medals of merit decades before the Nazi party came to power, and variations are still in use today. The Imperium itself is vaguely Nazi-esque, what with it's xenophobic ideology and militaristic society, but Games Workshop hasnt been shut down for that. So I fail to see what you mean.

During World War 1, when British and French medics treating injuries from trench fighting noticed some alarmingly large wounds. These gashes seemed to be made with a large blade such as an axe. One doctor asked a front line officer if they had recovered any battle axes from German troops. They hadn't. Death Korps do not actually kill their comissars (at least not with any regularity). Firstly, commisars are utter beast by themselve. I mean failed (for noncowardice reasons) commisar candidates are given option to "degrade" to elite stormtrooper units. That should give you some idea of combat standards that commisars must met in first place. If they would order retreat to death korps, it would be in such situation where death korps guardsmens would see the reasoning behind it. Point for death korps guardsmens is not to die. It is to die well so that their death can remove at least small part of debt created by the rebellion of ages past. Dying uselessly just to kill few more enemies would be considered shamefull if your other option would be to pull out so you can fight other day. Of course they would not abandon important objective, but if we are talking about fighting enemy outside of city, retreating into city to regroup and continue fighting would be what they would do.

iglidor NO to the retreat part. The death Korps have indeed actually been known to sometimes refuse such orders. I don’t recall any point at which they actually blamed a commissar, I’m fairly sure that’s mostly a meme but they have indeed refused to retreat and regroup in the past, they are THAT crazy. In fact they were the inspiration for Fantasy Flight to add the rule “dishonored” in Only War, which if taken literally makes it so trying to accept an order to retreat might result in the accumulation of insanity points. Independently of situation. Even tho, as they say, they have “only one life to give”, Korps and other penitent regiments on the crazier side are known to consider death in combat, even if in not particularly useful situations, a desired outcome. Examples of these mentality in the Korps are plentiful. Such as the Lucius lasgun (their main rifle) being fairly unreliable compared with normal lasguns but having more strength, and grenadiers using very unreliable hellguns (specially compared with those used by most grenadiers/storm troopers) and being recruited for, as the book puts it, “living too long” as opposed to “living long enough” which would be the wording expected if death wasn’t the desired outcome. Tl;dr: Kriegers are fucking nutty!

@@cnlbenmc You could be right about this. im really not sure. On one hand chaos space marines often have access to old legion gear that is as good if not better than modern standard Astartes gear. He could be useing a beautifully crafted chainsword with a power cell that can last a entire month before needing to be replaced. On the other hand many chaos bands have been wandering without any real form of resupply for thousands of years. Its totally possible that a war band has has most of its legion gear break down over the years. with most lower ranking marines having to make due with whatever they could scavenge from dead loyalists. TLDR The Thing about chaos is that even chaos war gear is well...chaotic and unpredictable.

To be honest 40K is filled with so more grimdark it's easy to say that about a lot of races, Nids are disgustingly horrible, Drukhari are just pure evil, and probably high up there, they will torture you psychologically and physically just to the tipping point of insanity and without the easing of death to blood loss/heart attack etc etc. being as technologicaklly advance as they are and keep your suffering going drinking off it like a vampire on blood, for eternity/until there's nothign left of your soul. And then bring you back and turn you into one of their many biological/mechanical weapon monster.

The Emperor is the only true warp god . Greater than both eldari and chaos. Because the emperor is personified and powered therefore he became a warp god by the psychic strength of many a men . However he also is a concept . That of Order . Therefore he is greater than both the eldari gods and the chaos concepts .

You know, I was just thinking about something. There was a book I read that involved the Death Korps and had a very interesting interaction with a Quartermaster. The main character saw a Quartermaster siphoning all the blood from one of his dying friends and started yelling at him for such a macabre thing. Quartermaster turned to him and, to paraphrase him, said, ‘look, your friend here? He’s not going to survive. I can’t fix him. His blood, though, could be used to save another soldier. Now, I could leave it in him and move on, but if I do, someone else will die. So, is your friend’s memory worth sacrificing two lives instead of just his?’ They take everything that can be used. But not just because they can or to be cruel, but because it may be useful in the near future.

@Nachtmahr22 oh man, I’m so sorry I didn’t see this comment sooner. The book is Dead Men Walking, by Steve Lyons. ISBN-13 is 9781849700122. It’s most likely out of print as a single title but may be part of an Imperial Guard omnibus. Good luck on finding a copy! It’s a good read.

Imperial Armour Fall of Orpheus gave the Death Korps a new type of regiments, the Assault Brigade. It's much more of a mechanize force, with the use of Storm Chimeras, Grenadiers, Engineers and Leman Russ Tanks. Krieg also has some really good armoured regiments since their Chimeras and Leman Russ Tanks are improved with armour and other abilities. Blitzkrieg is nothing new to Krieg, it's just not many of their regiments specialize in it since that's not what their famous regiments are designed for.
