It wasn't until reading the Genestealer Cult Codex that I realised that Krieg is actually in Segmentum Tempestus - that, in other words, the Imperium has been supplying this siege from two whole segmentae away. Real efficient, Imperium. Real efficient.

In this case, it has less to do with efficiency and more to do with volume. Most regiments cannot produce the numbers of soldiers Krieg does, let alone have them armed, trained, supplied, and ready for the everlasting meat grinder. In addition, Krieg are specialists in exactly this brand of warfare (see episode on DKoK), so why muddy that specialization with another regiment whom while closer will likely have less experience in not only siegecraft (honestly, a very specialized brand of warfare) but are more likely to be less efficient on the ground. There is something to be said for using the right tool for the job over the nearest

It seems you're confusing Macharius and Malcador, Arch. The first is "second-generation Baneblade" and was reintroduced to Imperium only recently, primarily being sent to regiments asking for super-heavies where no true Baneblades and the like are available. The second is a design deemed old in Great Crusade era and, yeah, was replaced by Leman Russes, now mainly mothballed

The drawing at about 4:25 that shows trenches and bunkers is heretical. Trenches should have 90 degree or shallower angled intersections to stop the pressure waves of explosives that detonate inside the trench from traveling as far and killing more troops. Considering that these fortifications were built before the Cardinal even was born, they would not have been constructed as shown in the drawing.

You know. The more lore I learn I notice some thing do make sense that otherwise wouldn't. Such as the fact all the close range melee combat, trench warfare in the 41st millenium, etc. Seeing the artwork above it all clicked. Lasers aren't very good weapons at long range. Thermal blooming attenuates the beam and breaks it up in perfectly clear air, let alone the dusty, smoky dirty environment of a battlefield. So I can imagine if you had an army composed of laser weaponry. The only way to guarantee good kills is straight up point blank firing into each others faces and large formations of shock troops. The advent of laser weaponry due to logistical requirements for a weapon that uses no ammunition and can be cheaply built and shipped in the trillions led to a regression in combat tactics because we're talking about a return to weapons that are most effective within musket range. 100 yards or so would be the real, practical effective range of most small arms laser weaponry requiring you to mass up and charge.

Great video as always, love the artwork. I've been listening to this "documentary" while at work, along with the other guys at my department and it really makes the time fly. Keep it up, you're doing the Emperors work over there! The only thing that really jumped out at me though is I think you've gotten the macharius mixed up with the malcador. The malcador was the heavier precursor to the leman russ that eventually got replaced and relegated to second line duty or simply mothballed. The macharius was a fairly new invention designed to fill in for baneblade variants when the forge worlds were incapable of meeting the demand. Magos Nalax of forge world Lucius designed it and when Krieg was "liberated" Lucius was designated to provide them with super heavy elements. Krieg supplied the death korp well enough but super heavies is a bit beyond their remit. As Lucius was already swamped with demands for baneblades they started producing machariuses for the death korps instead. Sorry if I went on a bit of a rant it's just I finally got my own macharius and I've read up on them quite a bit.

Unfortunately, I have never seen anyone on youtube do a full Siege Of Vraks campaign. Someday I would like to try to do it, but first I have to build a Renegade army and a trench board or two.
