Minor add-on: even when the Deathwatch demands tithes from various Space Marine chapters, their attitudes may also vary. Some chapters do consider joining the Deathwatch as a badge of honor, while some others see it as a convenient way to deal with "troublesome" marines, such as those with character issues.

An important bit of subtext in that opening quote I’d like to point out: there’s a distinct difference from “alien” and “xenos” in the Imperium’s bureaucracy-all xenos are aliens, but not all aliens are xenos. The line dividing the two is recognizable human values or cultural characteristics; for a race to be called “xenos” means they have no shared traits between species. Xenos are _the other,_ and are inherently hostile to human existence-and everything fucking else for that matter-in every way, shape, and form. For the better part of the Imperium’s history, that designation was immutable and indelible…aaand then the ‘Nids showed up, and the Inquisition went, “You know, _maaaybe_ the Craftworld Eldar, Orks, and Tau aren’t so bad.” Then the Lords of Terra were like, “But the Dark Eldar are still the bad guys?” And the Inquisition was all, “Oh, no, _definitely._ Those guys are _cunts.”_

Couple of things to note about the battle of Port Demesnus: 1. The hosts from Saim-Hann and Ulthwé didn't know about the plan, but were under the impression that they were there to cripple the planet's industrial base to prevent the Imperium from claiming some maiden worlds. Additionally, they were sent to their deaths to trigger the ritual. 2. The whole plan was BATSHIT. Eldrad straight up stole dead Farseers because he knew that their home Craftworlds would never support his plan. For some reason, most Eldar are a little apprehensive about creating a new God. If it went wrong, all of the souls stored in all the Craftworlds' infinity circuits would be lost and likely gobbled up by Slaanesh, followed by the Eldar of said Craftworlds. It's one of the reasons he's currently exiled from Ulthwé. 3. While it's not discussed much in the 'Death Masque' supplement, it's fair to assume that the Imperium would have been hit REALLY hard by the ritual. Between the shockwave of the ritual, the obscuring of the Astronomican, and the psychic sensitivity of humanity, a lot of tomfuckery may have kicked off right before Abby's 13th summer vacation. Frankly, I'm team Artemis on this. Given Eldrad's track record and the immense risk of his scheme, Artemis may have actually saved the entire Eldar race. At the very least, the other 99.999% of the Eldar probably appreciate/approve of him stopping Eldrad. Don't tell Artemis that though. I don't know if astartes can have aneurysms, but telling him would be a good way to find out.

Deathwatch! The LEAST played faction in the 40k War Game, being the start for the game, Kill Team, and my FIRST army I play in 40k! There ain't a whole lot information of it for the War Game, but I still enjoy the adaptability of it!

Yes. There have always been marines taking the Long Vigil within the Deathwatch, and not just for Blackshields, but they were always in the minority. After Guilliman returned, he was so impressed with the Deathwatch that he assigned multiple full chapter's-worth of Unnumbered Sons to permanent assignment with the Deathwatch.

The Grey Knights are one, though it's less a case of the Deathwatch "refusing to recruit from" and more a case of the Grey Knights refusing to send marines to the Deathwatch.

@@40KTheories I don't think the Grey Knights are who are being referred to. The position seems to be one of dishonor, so I imagine it's whatever OC chapter you want to make with a bad reputation.

There are a few. The Mantis Warriors are one, I believe. I don't think Chapters that are on a penitent Crusade send to the Deathwatch, either because the Deathwatch won't take them, or because they aren't willing to lose good men when they're forbidden from recruiting. It's probably a case by case basis.
