Your SSDs has potential to 2200MB/s in Raid 0 and the 10 Gbit Ethernet has potential of 1250MB/s in theory. Seems kinda low to have 250-500MB/s transfer speed, even if any transfer protocol is applied.

Yea, I totally agree with you, I've been tweaking NFS settings and I got it up to 950MBp/s but i'm trying to figure out how to speed up my SMB shares

If you are comfortable with CLI tools, maybe try benchmarking the ssd's locally on the FreeNAS. That way you could see if the RAID/HBA card or PCIe lanes are bottlenecking the ssd performance.

I didn't realize that SMB on MacOS was so much slower than NFS. Was SMB on Windows faster than even NFS on Mac?

Hey KiloQuibit yes SMB was also slower on Windows but not but much around 400-500 MBps which was disappointing :/ im looking into some optimization for SMB for now i've written a script for mounting the NFS share at startup but its still annoying
