Was stationed @ Barnegat Light and seas like these do seem tame on video. With following seas & towing disabled boats through Inlet is no easy task. Timing is everything!!!

The boat was a 1987 41' Egg with twin Caterpillars that was a repo i was moving, wind was coming directly on shore at 30 to 35 knots and the tide was going out. It really looks way more menacing in person. seas were about 8' and very confused. Alot of shoaling and sand bars at this inlet so alot of water moving in odd directions. Boat ran great and handled pretty well, rough ride but she stayed together. We came in the night before at about 11:30 at night from Connecticut and had some dirty fuel filters that slowed us way down so we had to come in this inlet at night from offshore, Not safe at all, we had 20' breakers right on our stern pushing us in the inlet. it was a one shot deal on low fuel. You may say yeah right 20 foot waves, the wave was crashing and the top of the wave was even with the top of the hard top that i measured to 22' would have swallowed that boat if we had lost power or had made a navigation error and had to stop or course correct...

Been a few times. In that situation .( Same spot) . I know what you mean about the rollers ( breakers ) coming into that . ( We never did it at night ) or with 20 . Footers .. that's good timing Capt. You got to stay in between them !!!

When heading out hang a left behind that marker at the end of the north jetty. Same as coming in its a good place to stage and ride behind a wave. It gets teal confused sea past the ocean mouth of that inlet.

Nice job captain! That’s some serious nasty slop! Always have heard great things about Egg Harbor boats. Seemed to do just fine.

The channel markers in that area are notorious for moving around and the shoaling is some of the worst I've ever seen. I got a 40' Ocean that I've taken through that area a few times in some seriously hairy situations where I thought I was gonna lose it.

The waves never look as big on video as they do when you are there in person!

I know this is an older post, but was tide coming or going? Do you remember how big those swells where? The fetch seemed rather short or tight as well. Wind seemed to be whipping, 20 plus knots? Kid of crazy how once you guys got pasted the inlet breakers, the sea's seemed to be going in just about every direction??

As choppy as it was, camera man was pretty steady. Says a lot about him and the boat.

Looks like a typical November day on Lake Huron, Michigan. I know waves never look more intimidating than they do in person. This would not be my choice of boat for this ( I sail a very seaworthy Columbia mkII ).

Ricky Timms Lol. Yeah sometimes it's worse when you go too slow. They could have kicked it up a notch.

You need to put the throttles down a little and let the boat do the work.
