While the .410 may not be as powerful as other shotgun gauges, it still has its advantages, such as lower recoil and ease of use. Ultimately, the choice between a .410 revolver and a .410 shotgun for home defense will depend on personal preference, home layout, and individual needs. It's great to see these tests and get a better understanding of the capabilities of the .410 platform. Keep up the great work in providing valuable content to the firearm community!

The revolver is rifled and short barrel. After about 3 yards the shot pattern starts going array. The long barrel is a smooth bore. The rifling really whips the shot.
@donl4914 Жыл бұрын
I was wondering who else would see this as an issue. I have to agree with you. A slight twist in the 2" barrel sends the shot cup spinning out. The spread is drastically increased as it's now spinning out of control. From the Break Action smooth bore, this was what a Shot Shell was designed for. Long distance with slow expansion rate.

That ATI Nomad has an Improved Modified (IM) fixed choke (it chokes down the shot at the barrel's muzzle) and that measures out to be .399. The 45 long Colt has a bore diameter of .452 inches. There is no constriction so the pattern is blowing out as soon as it leaves the muzzle. For shooting shot gun pellet loads you'll never beat a constriction type of muzzle for keeping the pattern tight at a distance. For a slug it may be a different story, but in the end .45 being larger than .41 will have an effect on performance. Great video as always and the clay block tests are really starting to grow on me. They really show the difference between a choked shotgun blast and an open non-choked test. Thanks again!!

I recommend you place the clay in front of a large paper/cardboard backstop so you can actually see the spread and the pattern. I found shooting birdshot from rifled handgun barrels in .22LR, .22Mag, and .410 that there are 4 distinct elliptical voids in the patterns, especially with the .22Mag and the 3" .410. The .22LR had the only pattern I considered reliable enough to function as a snake load. The voids in the others were large enough to miss the snake's head. Destroyed my faith in the Judge for a brush hiking gun. The NAA Black Widow with the .22LR cylinder was the best of all. Lower velocity standard 2.5".410 was superior to 3" mag in the Raging Judge.

A couple of things first, 1] there is a shortage of .410 ammo (at least here in Mo. there is) 2] the range that these would be used would be withn 7-20 feet , so .410 birdshot would be very lethal & would not over penatrate the drywall
