In this knife review, I want to present an option that may be a good alternative to the SRK from Coldsteel. Schrade makes a lot of great blades. The knife we are looking is one of my favorites by them #schrade #bushcraft #survivalknife

411, I'm a 72 year old Vietnam ERA Veteran, retired police officer and a DefensiveTactics expert so I know something of survival. I bought the Schrade SCHF3N two years ago after watching several torture tests and demonstrations on KZbin. I like being in the woods, camping along with fishing and mountain biking. I was looking for a knife just like the SCHF3N and took a chance on it after several reviews. I paid $49.00 and when it arrived I was pleasantly surprised of the quality Schrade had put into this knife. I made a few changes to suit my needs by grinding down the micarta handle down about an 1/8" on both sides where the micarta touches the blade then taking the micarta down around the skull crusher in enough the micarta would not be damaged by pounding. I had to purchase new screws for the handle since the old screws couldn't be removed with a brass casing or my multi-tool. I also deepened the groves in the handle and made a small grove between the handle guard points next to the blade for a better thumb support for finer wood work. I like the sheath, think I'll eventually go to kydex for easier cleaning. I think the SRK is an OK knife, but doesn't compare to the SCHF3N since it does have the protective guard for your hands to prevent slipping down over the blade in a wet situation and the rubber grips won't hold up against rocks or wood when crawling on the ground. For the cost and materials the SCHF3N is the winner. Oh I can't forget the SCHF3N is a good thrower if you like tearing up a good knife. The blade is good at a ferral rod in and emergency. Splitting wood by batoning I'd rather go with a small hatchet. 411 we all make mistakes, but I enjoy your videos. Be Careful Out There.

Throwing is definitely rough on em but that one might be ok. Overmolding can be fine but if your going to throw the thing, it has to be material that is close to as hard as the steel is. Otherwise anytime the steel is smashed into the inside of the handle the handle material will deform or crack.

It will strike a spark on the rounded part of the blade top. I got one and it sparks just fine. Great review many thanks.

Oh btw, when your overmolded handles fail you can replace it w/ a 2 part epoxy handle like i did. Stuff is rated to 1550lb per square inch & hasnt failed me yet. (I used the gorilla brand)

My problem with a lot of Schrade knives is they always go with a hollow grind even on survival knives which are more apt to chip or roll. They should use more saber or even a Scandi grind especially on a purpose built survival knife which is meant for stuff like batonning

I appreciate your review. I was just about to buy my third SRK. I have an older San Mai, and the SRK 5. I wanted to get the SRK CPM 3 V and have now changed my mind. Thanks for your follow up and review. It means a lot to me.

Great video, man! 👍 I do love the SRK, but will say that even when not throwing them, that knife does have a history of handle issues. Others would disagree, but the SRK just isn’t the best option for extreme hard use cases. For combat utility, it’s good enough. I don’t beat excessively on any of my knives, so I haven’t had any issues with my SRKs in general utility roles. Great knife, but yes, this SCHF3N can take a much more significant beating than an SRK for those that enjoy chopping and heavy batoning.

I do admit, I bought this one as kind of an impulse buy as my very first camping tool and general "big knife". I was curious if I had made a foolish purchase, I'm still new to the hobby and skeptical if I can make it a lifestyle, but it looks like I made a solid first step. Need to learn to appreciate that wee finger nook. Thank you for the video. ^^

This looks like a great knife. I still enjoy the handle profile of my SRK because I like flipping it in my hand for switching grips. That is easier done with a knife handle without finger grips. It’s been my go-to for quite sometime. Thank you for your videos brother. I do enjoy them.

love some pieces from Schrade..this one is made according to the pattern Chris Reeve Pacific 100👍👍..but also remainds me the Bastinelli style blade and handle..isn't it a bit??Including jimping style..I love the shiny black blade color with jimping saw..and elegant slim handle of this knife .In our country it is said that this knife has even much better handle than Chris Reeve Pacific...thanks of Schrade😎😎👍👍👍👍👍

I love this knife! I bought it back when it first came out and everyone was saying to buy the SCHF9, but I don't like recurve blades, so I looked at the other new Schrades and this one most closely fits my uses. I would never throw it, though. I've got other knives for that. (Although I really suck at throwing. And yes, I watched your 'how to' videos. I'm practicing.)

First I enjoy your reviews. Now I gotta disagree on this knife. It’s a good looking clone of CRK Pacifica. My problem is the steel choice 8cr13 isn’t tough. It’s a great steel in a folder. Just seen many broken. I don’t see a problem with SRK. For the price of that schrade I paid $55 mora Garberg in 14c28n a tough stainless. Another great choice terava Puuko 140.
