I think some of the main issues with the ending come from the abrupt nature and how contradictory everything was to the ongoing character development. It doesn't make sense how throughout the series, Aqua is somebody capable of manipulation and leveraging characters into behaving how he wants, yet there was nothing clever about how he decided to take down Hikaru. By stabbing himself prior to initiating the fight, Aqua puts himself in a position were he may not be strong enough to guarantee defeat before dying of blood loss. Hikaru could have potentially survived and Aqua would have died for no reason. What about the knife? If the knife was discovered, it would have confirmed that Aqua stabbed himself, freed Hikaru of blame, and damaged Ruby's image. Along with Nino, there were other former B-komachi members that were unaccounted for. Even with Hikaru and Nino out of the picture, there could have potentially been other people after Ruby. Things may have felt better if they had Aqua try to utilize an intelligent plan that somehow failed and the only other option he came up with in the heat of the moment was physically stopping Hikaru in the same manner that happened in the manga as his last ditch effort to save Ruby's future. With the current ending, it could have worked fine if it had more chapters to flesh things out. Your description of the events sounds nicer than it actually was because it omits most of the flaws and contradictions this end created/left unanswered and adds thoughts/dialogue that wasn't present in the panels. I think the main reason there is so much discussion about this ending is because how poorly written it was and not necessarily because people weren't okay with tragedy. Either way, you did a good job explaining things and covering the topic despite my small critic👍

yep that's it. the last 2 panels where ok and could even be great, if we had a little bit more time while getting the actual emotions of the characters instead of some narration. the funeral scene was the best moment for a very long time, just because we actualy get to see how Kana suffers from the loss. if we got this attention for all of the epilouge, it would have been so much better. ofc this still doesn't account for the plotholes, that where opened up just to make Aqua die in the way he did. ch 160-164 took the whole story, threw it into the bin and set it on fire.

Here's why I think this ending is a slap in the face. Ruby ends up with the same curse Ai had. Ai lied to herself and everyone to keep moving forward, she fell into despair and hated everything, only getting a shred of hope through her children. Ai never cared about her fans (and frankly Ruby doesn't either and neither does the audience). All of it was lies, she was obligated to make people smile, not because she wanted to, but because she had to. Ruby ends up the same, a beacon that is forced to smile because that's what's expected of her, but inside, she lies to herself that everything is okay and that this path is okay because she thinks Ai and Aqua wanted this for her. She'll eventually fall into despair just like Ai did. It doesn't feel like a noble sacrifice Ruby is making to become the beacon the world needs, it feels more like she's doing this because that's what she thinks her family wanted for her. Thus the curse continues with everyone lying to get through it. It's a slap in the face because we got all the way here only for nothing to actually change. Sure, it's bittersweet, but then what was the point of the story? Just to tell us 'there's no escape, give up and keep lying'? Oshi no Ko painted the idol industry as a place of darkness and manipulation, where misplaced love and the lies that spawn that kind of love bring harm to everyone, but never did it really paint these things as a necessary evil. That's why this ending doesn't work. A bittersweet ending to a story that was building towards a resolution leaves everyone unsatisfied.
@alpha-samaАй бұрын
True, that kind of rubbed me the wrong way as well. I wish Ruby had a short monologue about either understanding why Ai lied and accepting that as part of being an idol, or stating she will lie for a different reason than Ai (who lied because she didn't understand love which Ruby does), instead lying so she can appear as a light that can pull people who watch her out of the darkness, similar to how Ai was a light to Sarina. In both cases you could still have the idea of 'the cycle continuing' but more meaningful.

ok.. look. i see that the artist tried to go for a "sad' ending, but he didnt quite pull it off Animal Farm by george orwell (insane book) has a 'it started bad, got good, and ended worse' type ending, but not everyone can pull off an ending like that, i feel like the ending was rushed/ not thought through. ... but from the authors view, you can see how ruby is now in place of Ai, and that girl inspired by her is in place of sarina, so it mirrors the beggining.. overall, i feel like he could have ended it better, with more care...
@somenoob214722 күн бұрын
I believed the theme to be that instead of using the excuse of the sadness in your life to justify your revenge, it is better to use your past experiences to be a better liar so that maybe the cycle of vengeance can stop. The darker the world gets, the more important being a light for others is, and the manga deconstructs what makes a lie good or bad. As for aqua, I believe his arc was having to recontextualize the revenge he pursued from malice to protection(a more nuanced version of the theme of cycles) and his actions were to stop it indefinitely, especially since if he lived he’d probably never change his childlike pettiness. Just my opinion of course

It left me unsatisfied, disappointed, and confused tbh. It was jarring how much of a 180 it just pulled by reintroducing Hikaru like that and Aqua's "plan" to do murder-suicide believing it to be his only option. 9:31 that post is true af I feel really bad for Ruby the most, girl went through so much and it just glosses over her grief in 3 pages and then goes "she moved on" like, what? Not to mention shes been pretty much relegated to a plot device for most of the series with how little character development and focus she received even though shes the co-protagonist
@andrefaria6023Ай бұрын
The reason why the majority of the community doesn't like the end has nothing to do with the fact that it's bittersweet or even depressing. Cyberpunk Edgerunners, for example, also has a bittersweet ending. The difference between each series' respective public perception was the execution. Edgerunners was well received despite being tragic because the story unfolded in a such a way that respected what came before it. All of the major plot points introduced in earlier episodes where concluded IN A WAY THAT MADE SENSE and each character's actions coincided with their previously established motivations and development over the series. This is something Oshi no Ko failed to do. Take Aqua's character for example. By the time the movie arc is over, he's moved on from revenge and starts living a normal life surrounded by the ones he loves. He even starts studying for medical school, something the manga makes sure to show multiple times. This emphasizes Aqua's newfound purpose and objective. This would lead you, as the reader, to believe Aqua would take a more cautious approach when dealing with Hikaru, possibly with Akane's help (which is also another plot point introduced earlier in the story), right? Well, instead he stabs himself, before somehow managing to take an unharmed Hikaru down with him... Not only does this come across as a cheap twist, because there was no way to predict this outcome based on Aqua's previous behaviour, but the sheer amount of things that could have gone wrong with the plan make it hard to stay emotionally invested. What if Hikaru simply dodged or overpowered Aqua? He would have died for nothing. The way that whole scene plays out is so improbable if feels artificial. If the reason Aqua dies was different, like a sacrifice protecting Ruby, I don't think the manga would be getting as much hate. The point is, there's a million different ways the confrontation could've have played out, and we seemingly got the worst one, where Aqua dies for no reason and Hikaru gets off easy by dying, instead of rotting in jail. The later part of the manga as a whole all suffers from similar issues, where the story either feels rushed or doesn't line up with what previously came before it. Reading the last 20 - 30 chapters, I couldn't help but shake the feeling the author was just trying to finish the manga as quickly as possible, with no regard for the story or the reader. It really is a shame, considering the potential this manga had... Hopefully, the anime makes some changes, at least to make this watchable. This series remains as one of my all time favourites, but thanks to this ending, I don't think I'll be revisiting it anytime soon.

Honestly the ending itself is not even that bad, the problem is what comes before that. The biggest L of all is Aqua's suicide, it's dumb. You could kill him off in a number of ways, suicide is the worst of all. The movie arc was rushed, the characters have some kind of off-screened development, a bunch of cheap cliffhangers were added for no real purpose (Akane getting stabbed is an example), Aqua's desire to live is completely ignored and pushed aside for the sake of Ruby's dream (which will end anyway after 5 years or so). Also i personally believe Ruby should not be able to move on like this after losing her sensei twice in this life, you can argue that she moved on from Ai's death but it's not the same at all. When Ai died, Ruby still thought sensei was alive, when she found Goro's corpse she had the revenge to keep her afloat, when she discovered Aqua being Goro she was hopeful again...and now that he died what? We don't see nearly enough strenght of character from Ruby in 160+ chapters to justify her recovery.
@Truchasgl3Ай бұрын
Do you know what else is ignored from Movie Arc?. Aqua's determination to commit a su1c1de plan. There's multiple scenes that shout that Aqua is about to do something terrible. That his soul is broken, that he is determined to hurt others and himself in the process. That "Telling Ruby his identity was a bad move" since it was better for Ruby to keep hating Aqua. Details like his black stars appearing. The fact that even after Ruby and Kana dialogues and getting his white eyes back temporarily, his black eyes are still back. The fact that even when Sarina is happy and living, that Aqua is a couple of words of being happy (Kana), that he has a lot of reasons to stop. A Knife still exists (Knife chapter), Gorou still is trying to convince Aqua to stop, his black stars are still there. There is still doubt. Even at Kana's date. He hasn't said those couple of words, he still has black eyes. And you can see it on his face. He's not happy, not even surprised (He already knew Kana liked him). He was afraid and concerned, because of the decisition he is already taken. I tell you, read the Movie Arc, and try to ignore the comedy in it. Just pay attention to Aqua scenes, their meaning with the context now that we know what his master 15 year plan is about. The dialogues from him and crow girl. Everything is just dark, and portrayes a person willing to end his life and being conscious of the things he will destroy. And Things he learned were not ignored. Those things let Aqua die with a smile on his face. They were not enough to stop him, but to give him some hope in the darkness he had created.
@deadline6149Ай бұрын
@Truchasgl3 sure there was that, but there was also the complete opposite, you just can't write a character with such contraddicting natures and hope it will work in a rushed ending. The movie arc was supposed to be tha arc where both Ruby and Aqua could finally understand who Ai was and why she is not an example to follow. No amount of logic can explain Aqua stabbing himself and still frame it as a selfless act.
@Truchasgl3Ай бұрын
@@deadline6149 It's not a selfless act. You have to remember the plan existed even before movie arc. Aqua multiple times refered himself and his plan as a terrible selfish plan. Aqua knows his plan is terrible for others, so does crow girl. But he is still determined to fo that way. (Crow girl says he is going to hurt everyone but still do it. And hurt himself in the process) Yes, there is the exact opposite(hope), but the same arc shows you that despite all of that hope, it stills is not enough (The black stars and doubt keep existing and are there). The only thing that changed in Aqua's plan at the end of the day was his justification. The plan was a pure selfish act, just for the sake of a revenge. The plan was started then commited. But he tried to give some light to it. Claiming is for the sake of others, Ruby and protect her. (A way of coping over his terrible decisition) Even at his last moments, Aqua still tells the crow girl that his actions were selfish, and still wonders if he actually deserves something or whether his choice was still justified. Crow girl doesn't give her the answer and tells him to not think about that, since it's done already. He can only be selfish and thing everything was justified and think about his life in order to die happy. Since his life is already over.

@nailin18Ай бұрын
Though it did left me wanting something more, I don't think it's a bad ending by any means, just a deeply upsetting one, and so people can't process it properly. I would have liked to spend some more time with Ruby to know what's going on with her more, I mean she did choose life so there is that to be hopeful, but then again maybe I don't want to know. I'll have to reread to say if his murder self-deletion is in or out of character for Aqua, there was definitely a reversal of his character development once he figured out that his target was still alive. The thing is, Aqua suffers from that very common Japanese MC mental disorder, the belief that he needs to take all the burdens on himself because he knows that's what is best for everyone around him, but of course that's just hubris and self devaluation. Like Akane said in the past chapter they could have planned the perfect crime together, but of course Aqua wouldn't want involve anyone into murder or risk harming Ruby career. I mean of course if given the choice Ruby would have chosen Aqua's life over realizing their mother's Dream, it did not need to end like this and Aqua is just a fool, and I think at his very final moments Aqua realized that too, but then it was too late. In that I'm reminded of Jujutsu Kaisen, how sometimes you can curse a person without meaning to, Aqua self righteous sacrifice becomes a curse onto Ruby, her Dream of realizing her mother lifework becomes the curse of having to live like she did, becoming a beacon of hope by projecting a happiness she herself do not have, and hoping these lies will one day become true to herself as well, I only hope it wont take another 15 years. It's very dark, but I think it's by design.

He was destined to sacrifice himself. This was pretty much revealed by the plot itself. He was involved with two girls Akane and Kana. But the story wasn't about one of those Harem comedy slice of life stories. It was cleverly written by the author to provide a distraction so the reader will think that Aqua would choose life. But he didn't at the end. He loved his sister. He wanted her to live her dream and removed any obstacles. Also the fact he couldn't really choose between Akane and Kana. He loved them both. Despite what people may say, Kana loved him. But Akane was there for him. She was with him and helped him to come to terms with the death of his mother in volume 7 of the Manga. And she also helped Kana get out of her slump. People don't give Akane much credit. it is what it is. Glad the author ended the manga way he did. I hope that the Anime ends the same way. It is a great story. Could have added more to the story on how Ruby came to terms with Aqua's death. But it takes time and you never forget. I should know I lost my parents back in 1999. Aqua dies, leaving all the friends and loved ones he's made over the course of the manga behind, but at least he's killed Hikaru and landed Nino in prison, keeping Ruby safe for good. Despite the heartbreak that takes some longer than others to recover from, everyone eventually moves on from his death, and are motivated to work harder than ever to honor his memory. This culminates in Ruby fulfilling the dream Ai never could - performing at the Tokyo Dome. But I still wish Aqua didn't have to sacrifice himself to kill Hikaru. I would've preferred if he and the others could've just exposed Hikaru for all his crimes (Like how Edward Elric was able to expose Father Cornello for being a fraud pretending to be a Messenger of God and like how Marinette Dupain-Cheng exposed Lila Rossi (Or whatever her real name is) for being the evil lying sociopath she truly is) with an Engineered Public Confession or something and bring him to justice? Aqua's death still feels so messed up, especially since it reminds me of what happened to Fred Weasley (Harry Potter series), Pierce Wheels (Ben 10 Series) and Pietro Maximoff/Quicksilver (Marvel Cinematic Universe). I was hoping for different character perspectives and how they were coping with Aqua’s death. Kinda how bnha ended, it was a bittersweet end as well but the last 5 chapters had different character POVs, like how they were dealing with their own issues and how they were coping. It wasn’t perfect, but at least you got a lot of people’s thoughts and feelings. I was hoping more on that, but we’ll see on the extra chapters, there might be more about the different characters.

@@Light-qm9gv I think some fans lost sight of the nature of the story being told. The way i saw it was Oshi no ko was always tragedy, just with themes about hope. Aqua ran out of both time and options to find a way of dealing with Hikaru and come back alive. Had he given Hikaru more time there is no telling the level of further danger Hikaru would pose to Aqua's friends and family.

With MHA people hated the ending because they either was predisposed to hating it, fake leaks and mistranslations along with the fact that a lot of actual fans were mad their head canon was wrong. JJK straight up just has an objectively bad ending and nothing makes sense, feels satisfying or earned at all. Hearing the ending to Oshi no ko...I struggle to understand why people are mad. Everything seems to have wrapped up and plots have come to their conclusion in a way that(to me at least) makes sense.

As someone who did not invest in the series but watched the premier of the Anime, I have to say that this is kind of what I expected of how the series would end At the beginning, Aqua was out for revenge and it was only natural that one would believe it would be the cause of his death. Ruby was out to be an beloved Idol just like her mother and that was how it ended for her. Yes, I know a great matter of events happened between the beginning and the end of the series, but at its heart, we had two different goals each sibling set out to have; thus I kind of see why the author chose this ending
@EvanmarleyDixonАй бұрын
From what I've heard after watching people like Chibi give his opinion, it sounds like the ending was too rushed, the focus wasn't always on the right place, & some story elements went nowhere or wernt used enough & just forgotten about. I do like the way evarywan moves on with their lives, how Ruby has 2 ⭐️, implying she's become just like Aai, & the series is a good comanterry on the industry in general. If I were to change anything, I'd have Aqua being found by 🚔 & 🚑 and show him die & it would go something like this... 🚔 🚑: Find Aqua & ask if he's ok. Aqua: asks about the dome concert. 🚔 🚑: tells him everything is fine. Aqua: dies picefully with a smile on his face, knowing Ruby is safe. This would make Aqua feel less selfish & more caring for Ruby's safety & have more of an emoshanal impact & would fit comfortably on only 1 or 2 more pages.

I appreciate that extra information, but a story is alive on its own even if it was their intention to get people to talk about it...The story was still murdered too many stories have been murdered for the sake of shock factor and drama. There are many aspects of the lack of message behind the series now, and all the foreshadowing/symbolism fell on the wayside as if it never mattered. Alas I will watch the anime (if they even get another season after 3, highly doubtful with this ending) and see where that goes.

Ik it wouldn’t happen but I think ai really should have just been brought back, Because the saddest part of the whole show was her death, she had barely got any peace in herself and died with unfulfilled wishes. Its just the execution was poor and it feels like lessons weren't learned. Ruby wanted her brother to be with her. Why would we want we want Ruby to be like her mother? Also the police would have figured the knife/figure print which why Aqua is poorly thought through for most of us.😊
@yummy_tatoesАй бұрын
Honestly, i can understand Aqua's decision as him being a flawed character, and in the end giving up on his future life in a moment of weakness and uncertainty. However, i would have liked for the author to at least pay a bit of respect to the rest of the characters. Ruby's hope that the doctor she loved came back, was briefly shattered, and lost a lover and a brother at the same time. Akane who wanted to be useful to Aqua in solving his problems ended up being pushed aside. And last but not the least, perhaps the saddest development of all, Kana's feelings were never answered in the end, instead she could only confess her love to his lifeless body. I was fine with Kana not getting together with Aqua, but after having all that built up only for her to be forgotten like that it hurt a lot, he could at least have him answer to her feelings ffs. It would have been fine even with him saying a "sorry" or have a farewell with any of them in his dying moments, but we didn't get any of that unfortunately. If not for that, it would certainly help having some kind of conclusion in what really happened to the lives of all the characters, perhaps a chapter or 2 extra would be fine, but it all abruptly ended. I still love oshi no ko story as a whole, and i will try to keep the things i liked from it.

@sumitroy3483Ай бұрын
Everyone is asking the reason for Aqua's Suicide. I would like to share anonymous comments which try to explain his death.( Credit:FoxbytheSea) Aqua had deep issues, even with his life as Gorou, he was already scarred. His first mother died giving birth to him, and his father I can’t remember but I think he dies shortly afterwards too, and was raised by his grandmother. He decided to study medicine and become a gynecologist/obstetrician in order to save other women, or rather save other children from suffering his same fate. That had left him already with some guilt feelings and sense of abandonment. In his second life his mother, his idol, his “love”, in case you could consider he was in love with Ai, was also taken from him as a child, in an even more traumatic way. His second father was a psychopath manipulative snake. He tried playing hero for all and being altruistic and careless about himself, but at the end he was just a child, a scarred and afraid child. He was always being a kind of patch adams in his first life, behaving almost childlike in the hospital, even a nurse called him out like that. In his second life he was more closed and mysterious, composed and cold, calculating. Can’t blame him, first the trauma of Sarina, then being killed by a random guy trying to protect the privacy and career of Ai at the hospital. I can remember at least 4 times where he openly talked about ending his life, or mentioning his life was worthless or meaningless, that’s why he never thought further after his revenge. But that’s the thing, at first all his life as Aqua was about revenge, but then at the end it was about protecting Ruby. He finally found out his real purpose in life. Or rather shifted it for him to be able to go in peace. He always thought he was just like Ai, unable to love, and not worth loving because of his abandonment issues, daddy issues, and mommy issues. He felt he wasn’t worthy of love, worthy of life. This manga is very deep, and Aquas character is very well depicted with a LOT of mental issues. He didn’t want an escape goat. He wanted it all to end, and he knew he would have to go if he was gonna take out Kamiki. He wanted it this way. That’s what Akane’s narrative is about the past two chapters. It’s a sad manga. It’s about trauma and moving on. You literally have the two sides of the coin with Aqua and Ruby. Sarina embraced her new chance in life, tried her best to follow her dreams and chase after them. Live it to the fullest, even now at the end, she is depicted as the one that wants to move on, live on, hang on to her dreams. Aqua embraced death. It is actually well written in an almost poetic way. It’s written in a very “magical realism” way, in a very in-depth psychological way. Aqua was an “Oedipus”. Was in “love” with his mom, killed his father, commuted suicide. Anyone which have other opinion please share your thoughts
@ledingraveАй бұрын
I think that the author decided very early in the story that Aqua should be dying in the end, and he just didn't think about it too much while he was writing the middle part suddenly it had to end, and instead of modifying the ending to fit the work he built to that point... he just made it fit. He forced a series of contradictory decisions on his characters so the ending could fit. I think that happened that way because Oshi No KO was a bitter sweet work from the get go, and I feel like the author was trying to keep that same feeling towards the end, however I think that the story doesn't seem to be building that ending, it feels like a constant climb up to redemption, justice and healing, and at the end, you get "the next best thing" resignation instead of redemption, not justice but a payoff, and no healing, just coping. Bad ending, not the worst but a bad ending indeed.

Ruby performing at the dome isn’t significant cause it’s Ais dream when in fact it never was. It’s significant cause she’s become a bigger idol than her mom allowing her mom to rest as a regular girl which in heart thts who Ai was a regular girl who had a wish on how to genuinely love others. If Ai never achieve this she would’ve been reincarnated like Aqua and Ruby. She learned it before her death showing compassion to her killer and also loving her kids. Aqua is reincarnated cause he has regrets of not being able to protect those he loves like Sarina and Ai and dies with a smile despite wanting to live a happy life. That smile is cause he achieved his goal of protecting his sister. Ruby is reincarnated cause she wants to become an idol. She becomes the biggest surpassing her mom. She doesn’t become like Ai though completely if fact she enjoys Wht she does when Ai didn’t which we learned in the 15 years lie movie arc. I don’t think it’s a bad ending but it was definitely rushed and I wish aqua and kana got together. But it was foreshadowed right at the beginning of the time skip this man was planning on Ruby life even if she is without him. It’s a story about love and how ppl communicate it. So don’t at all before it’s too late like Kana and some do it through malice intent and others do it through sacrifice. Ruby is moving on with their wishes Aqua sacrificed even though he wanted to live Ai did it with lies Hikari could never love directly thts why he did everything indirectly

Honestly, even though I quit reading around incest arc (Ruby asking Aqua to marry him) bc I find that topic deeply uncomfortable, I heard bits and pieces from videos. It was pretty clear to me that this show isn't gonna have a happy ending and is taking an almost too realistic twist. It's no happy show, it has deeply problematic characters and handles deeply problematic themes (not a bad thing). If this show had a happy "everyone lives, ships happen" ending I would be disappointed. It's a good finish to the series, just a unhappy/tragic ending.

The ending was a perfect fit, the execution is down to each persons interpretation and their demands for more, I personally am more than happy with what Aka did. However, simpletons like Chibireviews don't help at all with their needless negativity. The less people get influenced by others in forming their opinion the better and then it will be an actual genuine reflection on the quality of the work in question.

I think we should have got more chapters. Showing one-two panels of characters, I feel like is not enough. Theres´s still some unresolved things. For example, what was Akane´s conclusion who were the other four members along with Ai etc..., Though it was a bad ending,It was for the plot itself. Alot of people think that he had to live, because he had to choose between Akane, Kana or caring about Ruby. But no, this is what i call "gaslighthing". Because Aka wanted for us to think "Aqua has to live,because he needs to choose one" Until they realized this is not a romance story. This goes the same for Ai "She has to live for the sake of Aqua and Ruby "It was all about Ruby representing and going beyond AI. Let´s be real tho, we all wanted the romance ending, especially ending up with Akane. I don´t really see a reason why there would be a reason,why Aqua would choose Akane over Kana. I don´t feel like Akane´s getting enough credits from people. She literally was with Aqua all the time,even saying she would go to hell with him, while Kana wanting Aqua to be in her concert. Like for real? Itw would be so abrupt to see Kana with Aqua. Going into the ending. I don´t see a reason why Aqua should´ve died. Well let´s take into prespective. There´s no such reason why Aqua should´ve died. Let´s take into account, that iff Aqua was a "good brother" he wouldn´t just stab himself, knowing the risks of him dying is undeniable. And I don´t agree when he said "for the sake of ruby" That´s just not true. As a "smart" person, he should be aware that sacrificing is just not the best option. He should be aware that, giving Ruby, Akane, Kana etc.., Especially Ruby depression. Especially Ruby, because that time when she found Goro´s dead body, it lookes like she was about to suicide, but after finding out about that Aqua was Goro. She regained her happiness,but then Aqua strikes her with his death, all I can say is, she was not happy. Despite the risks Aqua took by unaliving himself to basically eliminate Hikaru, that guy still said for the sake of everyone... What if Ruby did a suicide, well yeah she shouldn´t because Aqua´s efforts would be useless, well let´s imagine a case scenario where for example Ruby was just devastated or perhaps went insane, and unalived herself. Like Aqua dying was so pointless. Just for killing hikaru, which could´ve been done countless ways. He unalives himself. The cycle starts again. "If you have an enemy, start digging a grave fro yourself at your enemy" Akane supermacy forever. Overall I loved the series, just the ending. defenitelly top 1-3.

This is a copy paste of a message i left for someone else. But i wanted to leave it here as well. Mostly this is to say that not everyone is upset by a sad or bittersweet ending. Like me, I'm ok with those, as long as they are written and/or executed well. This. Was. Not. Executed. Well. The copy/pasted part of my message: I'm fine with bittersweet or sad endings. I just felt like the writing dropped in quality and too many loose ends were left, as well as plot holes. But I've already mentioned that elsewhere in some other places, and this will be long enough without my getting into the details of all of them. I won't get into all my issue with it, but I wanted to say that the sad ending isn't necessarily the cause of the issues peopke have (not on its own, anyway). Not for me and not for some others. It's the drop in writing quality & the execution of the story between 135 and 165 - with real interest of Akasaka seeming to completely leave around 143 other 144. As for the drop of quality (and the execution) that I mentioned above: Akasaka has a history of loosing interest in his stories (from what I have heard/read of his past works - he's apparently stated this in (at least) 1 interview) and ending them as soon as he looses that interest. Regardless of where he is in the story when he looses that interest. It feels like around 144 he completely lost interest in the series . He's also already had 1 or 2 works refused for publication in (I think) the last year, while Oshi was running full steam ahead and he's already got his next series planned with a release set for January or Febuary. This indicates that he's likely been growing more and more disinterested in this series since he had those other 2 refused and likely ended Oshi as soon as he got the go ahead for this new series. I've read things that state that this is what has happened with Kaguya Sama's manga (never watched or read it, because it never interested me much) and 1 or 2 other series. It seems like he crashes the landing of his series often because he becomes disinterested. I'm a fine artist under my real name and also write. I get that being bored or burnt out is human nature at times. As well as loosing interest in things. In those cases, rather than rushing to end your stories, you should take a long hiatus (longer than the one they took before the ending). Meanwhile Mengo has stated that she was putting all of her attention into Oshi No Ko, and as a result has nothing planned right now. Though I assume after spending time with her family over the holidays and the holidays are over, she will likely connect with another author or start her own series. But the contrast between them is glaring. She put everything into it and Akasaka CLEARLY didn't put his all into it or even care to tie up any of the loose ends or plot holes. My issue is with that, rather than the sad or bittersweet ending. I didn't like Aqua's death, but it was more that it was badly executed rather than him being dead. There are loose ends with almost all of the important characters. But aside from how his death was executed from a writing standpoint, I have serious issues with Hikaru's writing as a character as well as the inclusion of the Crow girl at all, when she was never fully explained. And did nothing other characters could't have done. She seems to only be there to talk to him as he was dying and Ai's spirit could have filled that roll. She could have at least visited Ruby one last time to give her some closure and understanding since he did not leave a note. That would have felt more in character for Ruby, if she was in a bad mental state until it was fully or even somewhat explained to her by the crow girl. Take that girl out and virtually nothing changes other characters or good plot devices could have filled her roll. Aside from the crow girl, the way Ruby coped feels out of character for her. Specifically to pull herself up and bounce back the way she did (even though she was broken inside). This is considering her reaction to Gorou's death, and now she's essentially lost him a second time. The 1st time she was ready to end herself over it. Now she isnt? Almost nothing has changed with her between finding Gorou's body, then.... and now: when she knows she's lost him a second time. Again, with nothing like a note or anything fully stating his feelings to anyone at all: He's just gone. Again. The crow girl was mostly useless and not explained. She could have been used to help Ruby understand things better. There could have been so many uses for her with this ending that would have made it good. The last chapter would have been fine with me, if Akasaka had built it up and it had been a properly executed plot line. As an artist, I just don't like how Akasaka treated his story or his characters. And yes, he's not the visual artists, but writers/creators are also artists in my opinion. If an artist/writer doesn't care about their story or characters, then how are others supposed to do that? Especially when his disinterest shows through his writing? I can't respect that kind of artist: be they author/creator or a visual mangaka.

Feels like Ak a got tired or bore and just wanted to end the series. Either that he wanted to do a certain route or things way and the publisher would not let him or just simply wanted to be done with it and passion ran out. Since he beings writing another series in April of next year and another previous work got axed while he was working on Oshi no ko and perhaps that way he was bit salty and ended Oshi no ko the way he did since Oshi no ko was way more popular then the manga that got axed.

I’ll just copy my comment from another video: I think people didn’t like it because it wasn’t an entirely happy ending and was more bittersweet , but I think that’s fine. I never really went to this story expecting a truly happy end. I thought the ending was actually good and it was a solid culmination of the over all theme: that this is a world covered in fakes and lies, but through said lies we can inspire and love others. People also criticized that the ending didn’t “feel” like a finale and that the status quo wasn’t changed but I feel like that’s more realistic for this story. In the end, you can’t truly change everything (I mean look how things are in real life) but it’s entirely up to you to try to make it better for others and I think that’s what Aka was trying to do with Ruby for the ending. I also saw the story being about second chances, and how Aqua was able to give a lot of characters a second chance to improve themselves and live on (even if he had to be a martyr for that to work). But yeah, it’s not a perfect ending (and that’s fine) but I think it’s a good ending overall and I was left satisfied.

the ending on a scale of Tokyo revengers to cowboy bebop I'd say it's in the middle it a least didn't revive every character and chalk it up to being a Miracal like Tokyo revengers did and honestly, I can't think of a way for it to be as good of an ending like cowboy bebop all in all even though some parts of the ending were kind of rushed I still think it's a decent ending and people are being way to rude to Aka Akasaka there's a good chance he was burned out because of the series and was tired

Wow the copium of this video. You literally ignored almost all of the written text explaining what was actually going on and just came up with a alternate ending based on nothing but the artwork. An alternative ending that completely contradicts what Aka actually wrote.

I think it was an okey ending, not the one i wanted for the characters but i think is not as bad as people make it out to be. And it certainly didn't make the whole manga " bad" as people claim.

When this ending finally gets adopted in the anime anime only will have a full on mental breakdown. Manga readers are already having a mental breakdown I can’t even imagine how anime only will react Man, the final episode does get released the whole Internet and the world will be in chaos. It’s gonna be a bloodbath and I can’t wait to see it. I can’t wait to see people lose their minds after seeing this ending in the anime 😂🤣

I felt the ending was ok. However to fix the ending: one more episode to show it’s all a act and all the casts came out to wave goodbye. Yes it’s a big Fat LIE! Maybe some fans will be happy.

It was a trash ending, pretty much told the audience to jump off a cliff.

Personally I'm not fond of this ending because I simply don't like Ruby as a character, I expected her to 💀, also kinda wanted to, and honestly it would have been double as a tragedy because she never became an idol and was still doomed to end her living days earlier than expected, doomed to never shine. And I'm not an Aqua fan, I'm pretty neutral about him :pp I don't usually hate characters but man I hate Ruby

The last chapter was OK but the previous ones felt rushed.

If you ignore narrators, and think of it as a Serina/ Aqua through story, it makes sense. If you look at Noh theater, it is common to have a plot start the story to get the characters to a spot where the real story begins. Then at the end the original conflict is never addressed. Spirited Away does something similar. The family takes a short cut because they are very concerned with meeting the movers at the house. They absolutely do not make it in time to see the movers. I may not be stringing these thoughts together well, as I am thinking about your video and shooting from the hip. I was just thinking, if you think of Ai as there for Ruby’s initial inspiration, and Aqua there as narrative device/ supporting character, then maybe the story has a through-line based on that. Also, bonus! All the people that would have been angry if Aqua shipped with the wrong girl..Problem solved!

I prefer JJK ending is better than this crap. There are 3 main reason why i haye this ending 1. Obviously the death of Aqua, like he could've just killed Hiruka (His father) on the spot and told Ruby that he got his vengeance BUT Hiruka wasnt the one who is responsible for Ai's death, he was groomed as a child then Ai got a crush on Hiruka that she started dating him. 2. Its like episode 1 all over again, Ruby lying to herself so that she doesn't feel depressed, it's like 2 sides of the same coin. Following her mothers footsteps. 3. Me ofc who wants an after story since im such a curious guy, I wanted to know how her life is going rn. Or i want Ruby hugging the spirit of Aqua and Ai before both of them disappears.

I actually 150% agree with Chibi on this one, What was the point of all this? What was the point of spending 4 god damn years and making an anime about a 16 year old ldol mother who dies in front of her children and having one of her children die in the most LAUGHABLE way imaginable, and the other one be forever DOOMED to be just another carbon Copy of her mother, the one thing she said she’d never become!!! Hell I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a literal stalker at that door Pointing a GUN at Ruby’s face while she has her head turned around. I know at first glance it may SEEM like Aqua and Ruby “accomplished”their goals, but they Accomplished them in the most BULLSH!T WAY POSSIBLE!!! AAAAAAAND let’s be real, the Dialogue in this final arc was absolutely ATROCIOUS!!! Another thing, even IF I go back to the 1st and 6th episode of the anime, i wouldn’t feel the least bit sad cause I don’t CARE anymore. And if we’re being honest, Akane should’ve died right then and there at the end of Ep 6, at least THEN Aka would’ve had something to SAY!!! Aka: Eh, just want to let ya’ll know that this stuff can actually happen in real life, so you Should probably, you know, not do it anymore. Thanks😊. And about that crow girl, can we ALL agree that her personality COMPLETELY takes a massive shift after the first half of the movie arc, because before she was pretty much a Bully to Aqua and Ruby, and she teased them every chance she got. But after we get the flashback of her interacting with Serena in the past she straight up becomes a Nice Girl out of nowhere. She then has the audacity to Glaze the Hell out of Aqua (INEXPLICABLY) and literally watch’s as his body fade into absolutely nothing!!! And I never actually watched or read the Tokyo Blade Arc in the anime or manga, but now I care about it even less now because WHATS THE DAMN POINT ANYMORE!!! And on that note, you can straight up count me out on continuing the anime. Cause who the hells gonna even care about Oshi No Ko by the time the anime gets a S3 and/or a S4 if THAT even happens!!! And even IF the anime changes the ending, it’s Already Too Late cause the damage has already been freaking done!!! All those animators and voice actors are just wasting their Blood Sweat and Tears for NOTHING now, and I just feel SAD for them right now!!! And now that his latest series got the Ax, Aka is now working on a Manga about and I Quote “a fairy-tale world, where princesses and princes are always guided by fate..." and apparently the artwork is being done by the guy who did Record of Ragnarok. But after this Atrocity of a Manga about Idols, I wouldn’t be surprised if that series gets Axed too, along with all of his Other future projects. Cause let’s be real, who the hell is gonna SUPPORT him after this!!!

Imma be real, I love and hate this ending First piece of fiction that had made me cry is oshi no ko. The ending was wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too rushed and I wouldve been fine with aqua dying if given more panels/chpaters talking about his death or why he died or just basically dragging the ending out. But I did see where aka was coming from though I disliked it Cuz it had the pacing that made it feel like a half tragedy I dislike the coming back in full circle theme as this shows that between ai and ruby there was no improvement even after a decade and a half Aqua suiciding even though his motive is to protect ruby is stupid because he couldve thought off a better plan Akane and kana had unfinished business with aqua as a whole. But in my opinion I accept the ending as canon as this couldve 100% happened in my opinion and this manga also holds an extremely special place in my heart.

Looking at the comment section and the official onk manga server I've noticed that many people don't even understand the story or even basic stuff, people are saying stuff like aqua suicide wasn't revealed earlier but they literally hinted it early on and aqua himself said in an chapter something about him dying and ruby managing without being depressed, another question is that people are asking why aqua didn't report Hikaru to the police? That's such a stupid question, aqua had no proof whatover and hikaru is a big figure, he's not easy to take down at all. There are still many questions manga readers are asking that have already been revealed, istg many manga readers are just ignorant.

I know fans that wanted to see Aqua, and Ruby shipping at the end, and even having kids. The manga author did planned this divided fan reaction on purpose. Ps. I guess that the Idol industry will get more support in Japan thanks to this manga's popularity.

This was a great ride. Endings are one of the most difficult parts of a story. I trully believe that is unfair to judge the whole series by the ending, this was trully a great manga. Hope there will be more in the future from Aka Akasaka.
