I like to think of the depths as the actual Origin point of the Demon King Demise and where he actually came from, in the legend of Skyloft, It says *”one fateful day, the earth cracked wide and a group of demons amerged from it”* (I don’t exactly remember how it was said but I think it was like this) which means Demise and Demon army amerged from a crack in the earth, The inverted Triforce on demise’s master sword could be a representation of the depths being a inverted version of Hyrule, this would make sense why Ganondorf would reside there and why it’s full of gloom and malice

I think, if SS is part of this continuity, that Demise is more likely to have emerged from the Breach of Demise.

I recall reading in the Zeldawiki that the place where Demise fights Link at the end of Skyward Sword is supposed to be the _Demon Realm_ in which Demise teleported to in order grow in power while awaiting for Link to come and face him. Since this place looks nothing like the Depths i don't think it's plausible that the "Demon Realm" from which Demise and the Demon Tribe hail from has any connection to the Depths from Tears of the Kingdom.

@@Twin_cia The Zeldawiki wrote this information after translating the original _japanese_ version of Skyward Sword where Demise outright mentions the place he and Link were standing on as "his realm" implying this location to be the Demon Realm. Also how can you say that place "looks nothing" like the Demon Realm when we have never _seen_ it in any game in the entire series? For all we know Demise used his power to reshape the entire realm into an empty space to have his epic final battle with Link so i see no problem with the possibility that this place is indeed the Demon Realm (as suggested in the japanese version of Skyward Sword). Lorule ressembles the Dark World/Sacred Realm from A Link to the Past yet it's been confirmed to be a *seperate* location entirely. The same thing applies to the apparent Demon Realm and the place Zelda teleported herself and Link to at the end of Ocarina of Time.

I think we are maybe forgetting that these are legends told to us verbally in video game format(because everyone's play-through is different). Because there has been so much time between legends, the story shifts, and some 'canon' events become exaggerations. That doesn't mean these legends from before Breath of the Wild become untrue; they just become unreliable as source material. Since there is a huge gap between the last games in the timeline and BOTW, I theorize that these legends from before have simply been forgotten, and those items that we find throughout the game are reminders that even though the legends are being forgotten, not everything about the stories was fiction.
@PixelFusionProductions
@PixelFusionProductions 8 ай бұрын
The problem with the "it's just a legend" argument, is that by saying what the game itself tells us is unreliable, then we can't really hold it accountable to its own storytelling. If that is the case, there is no reason to try and pick it apart. We have to take what the games tell us as truth. This is a fundamental part of storytelling, and failure to pay attention to your own continuity or tell a cohesive story is a fault of the storyteller... it is bad writing.

@@PixelFusionProductions while that is completely true and i acknowledge the it's just a legend argument is weak, from what I've been hearing from how Nintendo is starting to care less and less about story and more about mechanics. you can't fully disclose that Nintendo themselves might be going down this route with future Zelda installments. i agree that especially the story writing in these past two games have been lacking and i really hope nintendo will listen to the players/community and go back to making that story just as good as the new machanics. like they're known for.

The Triforce thought for restoring Zelda is neat and gives another tangent to go down. In the past, we have always seen an evil Ganon being the power embodiment. This brings about the thought of the Triforce of Power being used for good.

I think maybe, that because time travel is so unstable and messy, it causes some tiny time hic ups, and things like weapons to not ever break, but to reset to where they were, like the dusk bow re-spawns atop a castle tower every blood moon. And the goddess statue just borrows the white sword of the sky from that era, and when it reaches its braking point, it doesn't break itself but just breaks some kind of rift back to its origin , i donno i think i just refuse to accept that they do break 😅

I mean, It's the Sky Barrier the dragons are passing through and why they disappear soon afterwards. The Sky ruins were always there and the game kinda mentions that those ruins descended past the Barrier so we could see them. There's even a little kid in BotW that mentions there being Islands in the sky that he can see. Similar to how Koroks can only be seen by specific people. So it's not something the team thoughtlessly thought of when making TotK. It's something they just expanded upon especially since this was supposed to be DLC for BotW that added stuff that was planned for that game. (There's the falling animation in the data that's used in TotK among other things) I don't think it really matters who the dragons were specifically. However, the real mystery about them is why do they have a Triforce symbol on their backs? Now that's weird. One of the clear inspirations for BotW and TotK was the souls series(ironic as one of the souls inspirations are Zelda games), where a ton of its story and lore can be interpreted through dialogue and environmental details. A lot of it is not designed to be flat out explained as it would take away from the experience. Harping on things that feel more like easter eggs than actual lore that needs explaining is just silly to me. Some of it isn't even that big of a deal as these games are practically Myths and legends being passed down from person to person and are subject to change depending on who's telling it. That's always been my mentality when it comes to each one and their placement in a "Timeline"

You are speaking of Shamae, she is a girl in BotW who dreams of a kingdom in the sky where people ride large birds. She spend the day looking to the skies trying to see this kingdom, but fails to. She returns in TotK and is fixated on a island that appeared in the sky. She also hasn't aged. The game doesn't explicitly state that Skyloft or even a cloud barrier exists. It implies that the Zonai were hiding their islands with technology, and that technology failed when Ganon shoved Hyrule Castle into the air. As for Dragon portals... I do agree this was meant to reference the cloud barrier of Skyward Sword, but TotK pulled back on those connections and offers other explanations, most of which use the Zonai as a catch all. This includes the dragons and the mysterious glowing scales on their back.
@howabtjoe8
@howabtjoe8 8 ай бұрын
I really think so many of TotK's problems could have been solved if they had just made the present events of the game take place in the past. Like send both Zelda and link to the past and have the same story take place just don't involve the present at all. THEN they could've used the same map but made these changes that they made for the cutscenes. That way they wouldnt have to create things like the sky islands or the depths to make the world seem like it has more content and could actually design a more intentional, condensed and less repetitive map. AND the player could have more agency in the progression of the story and you wouldnt have to experience the story through flashbacks again. This video is just more evidence of how thoughtless and unfinished the depths and sky islands feel, and I wonder what the game could've been if they spent more time dramatically changing the surface map so it feels new while still reusing assets.

Have Zelda AND Link go into the past and have Zelda act as a companion to Link, or vice versa, as the player is actively exploring the old "first" kingdom that Rauru and Sonia established. Then at the end of "Zonai-era gameplay"...either have Link actively take part in the "imprisoning war", as a first taste for the player what Ganondorf is capable of, and have him nearly mortally wounded and sent into some Zonai stasis chamber... or even before the battle Link is send straight into stasis by orders of Zelda. (Sidenote...some handwavium there, but that'd be some super advanced stasis pod even farther beyond what the Sheikah were capable of, thus able to sustain someone far far longer) After the events of the "imprisoning war" Zelda performs draconification and we fastforward into the "present" where Link wakes up at the start of the game. That might require some revisions or cuts to the dragontear memories/geoglyphs, but surely that could be done relatively easily.

My theory about the invisable sky islands: When doing the side quest atop the temple of time. A steward construct tells us about how Zelda and Mineru worked together after the Imprisoning war to make preparations for Link in the future. This includes sending important Zonai structures in the sky-: out of Ganondorfs reach; to aid Link. Now why weren't they visable in BOTW? I think the timetravel loop started with what we see in TOTK. That being the first loop. Zelda going back in time and working with Mineru, making preparations, happened just before Link woke up on the Great Sky island. Link and Zelda go beneath Hyrule Castle: no sky islands Link wakes up in the sky (after The imprisoning war/zelda and mineru raising the sky islands/etc. Therefore the sky islands were present by the time Link wakes up I am no time travel expert at all (also knowing it doesnt probably exist) and how different games/movies/shows have their different takes on it. I like to believe this might be true. Keep in mind the whole 'move the chair and it will have consequenses in the future'. Therefore what Zelda and Mineru did, completely changed the outcome of what would have been Hyrule's future, because Zelda shouldnt have been there in the first place. And knowing what she knows (the future, or for us: the present time) had great impact on Rauru's decision to sacrifice himself to buy time and Mineru helping Zelda with securing important Zonai structures by sending them in the sky. Curious about your thoughts!

As for visibility in the sky, we don't see any sky islands in the past during the memories. The Stormwind Ark legend also talks about the Zonai being hidden in the sky. It would seem there is a cloaking technology masking them, making them invisible, and when Ganondorf shoved the castle up, it broke a lot of things. Time travel is indeed a messy topic and has had various concepts explored in the past across all of media. How can Mummydorf in the basement already know of Link and Zelda when Zelda hasn't traveled into the past yet to kick off the events we later see in the memories? Is TotK by chance another 'Song of Storms' timeparadox, where established events have no definitive starting point or root cause, which is otherwise known as a "boostrap paradox"? I mean it would be fitting given the games logo of two dragons eating each others tails, with the timeline sort of looping back on itself from and to a certain point.

The problem is that it conflicts with time travel behavior in the rest of the series, and Rauru himself makes a comment in the game suggesting that time travel works different than what is presented in game. The skylands were created as trials for the hero out of ganons reach. Don't know why the depths are inverted. The animal Lords are different zonai tribes. All the dragons are previous zonai. They have the same hair as rauru and mineru. The zonai went extinct because the majority became dragons. Blupees become bubbulfrogs because they're unable to attain enlightenment and their greed causes them to be corrupted by the gems. I didn't know the blood moon affected cooking. Probably just a gameplay thing and not part of the story The ghosts are victims of the calamity. It's their weapons they used in life. Koutake and koume are not the same people from past games. Just another case of reused names. The dueling peaks aren't in the depths. The hebra hole? I haven't noticed it in the depths. Perhaps an oversight by the devs It's just a gameplay excuse to prevent you going beyond the desert. The colloseums were for zonai entertainment. They were a barbaric people who conquered through force and entertained themselves through combat. Bargainer statues have some sort of connection to hylia. The one in lookout landing is the odd one out Yes the dragons were all zonai. Even all the skeletons in the depths and the surface The goddess sword is a non canon item. It's there as a gameplay quirk like the rest of the legendary items. It doesn't canonically exist in the world since it's the master sword The final battle was invisible Zelda was restored through recall. Zelda didn't travel back 10,000 years. It was 50,000 years as there have been several calamities Don't know about the garden of time Rauru going to the sky can be explained by him knowing it's too dangerous to keep link on the surface while he recovers The imprisoning chamber was constructed as a trap. Word of God from interviews is not enough. What is worse in my opinion, is that the connections they were making in BotW were walked back in TotK. It very much seems to me that BotW & TotK were meant to be their own continuity, a more Japanese take on the series mythos as opposed to the European fantasy they had been crafting. Even since BOTW it seemed pretty obvious to me that these games are sort of a soft reboot. And even if the Zelda team never outright confirmed it, they pretty much said years ago BOTW takes place so far in the future all previous timelines converged and all previous games can be considered myth or legend (they don't call it "Legend of Zelda" for nothing). And honestly, I'm perfectly fine with that. The original timeline is still very messy and full of retcons and inconsistencies so it makes sense they wanted to start fresh. I also lean towards Fujibiyashi's suggestion that the kingdom from previous games was destroyed long ago and a new one was established.
@PixelFusionProductions
@PixelFusionProductions 8 ай бұрын
I agree that in BotW, they were angling for a soft reboot by moving things forward so far as to TRY to make the past games irrelevant. However, if you ask me, that greatly undestimates the history of the world they created, and undermines the fans who are so dedicated. Still, a soft reboot is still a reboot. TotK changed this approach. You see, where BotW was vague enough that you could imagine that somehow all the past game were canon, Tears doubles down in concepts from BotW further distancing itself from the past games. I would have expected, that if Breath and Tears were connected, that more of those connections to the past would have been revealed. Instead, things we were expecting to be connects to the past got new explanations that ultimately boil down to everything being Zonai. The worst salt in the wound is that the 2019 teaser that first show Ganondorf really did look like TP Ganon. It looked like they were serious about a connection, not a vague implication, but a solid connection to past Lore. As Zeltik put it, TotK is a disappointing masterpiece.

I honestly believe, that by the time BotW/TotK era, the past games fell into legend and story, and in a sense, they lost a lot of detail or were told incorrectly at times as they were passed down. My theory is that Din, Farore and Nayru were Zonai (because the Zonai and their technology were seen as gods) and that the Zonai came down to help the Hyrulians (at the time, they would have just been the surface dwellers). It wouldn't surprise me if, in order the create the Triforce, they had to give up their humanity, much like ... SPOILER WARNING Zelda had to give up hers in order to restore the Master Sword and grant it more power. Then SS took place. You have the past in that game describing how the Skyloftians (Zonai) use to live on the surface, how Demise threatened all of 'Hyrule', how Hylia (Who I also believe was Zonai) lifted them into the air to save them. What if she only took the Zonai with her? What if a savage tribe of Hyrulians survived on the surface? Not impossible since the Gerudo should have existed to some capacity during this, as well as the Gorons were confirmed to have existed on the surface. this might also be where the Barbarian set comes from. I firmly believe, that even tho they are presented as Hylian in the game, Link and Zelda of SS were meant to be Zonai. When you think of Egyptians, we know through our science and their remains they were human, but SS era Hylians and Zonai did not create embalmed remains, hence why Hylians now tell the story of Princess Zelda and her Link as if they were Hylian. SS finishes and Link and Zelda come to the surface to essentially start the roots of Hyrule's History. Slowly, Hyrule is built (BotW/TotK great plateau). Surface dwellers have built the kingdom of Hyrule, babies were born and the events of Minish Cap, Four Swords and OoT take place. I imagine that during this part is where the Zonai went back up to the sky, but not before Zelda (and possibly Link) left a baby Zonai to co-mingle and become the beginning of the Royal Family, and as is the case often when kingdoms start to expand, wars occur, a civil war broke out and Time Link's mum left her baby in the care of the Kokiri. From OoT, the timeline gets shattered into 3 parts. Here's what I theorised regarding that. Once again, stories get retold, rewritten and details get lost. All three of those timelines exist in some capacity. It's why you get Zora in some, Rito in others and a weird 'mix' of Zora becoming Rito. Which brings us to, TotK Past and the 'merging' of timelines. YUP. Zonai come back to visit for whatever reason. I'm guessing cuz the Gerudo are causing problems because their Prince has been born and he's an evil d!ck. Regardless, Ganon rears his ugly head (or, in this case, devilishly handsome head), BUT this era doesn't have a Link or Zelda, and the reason is, TIME TRAVEL. Zelda coming to the past broke something, so a Zelda and Link for this time doesn't exist. Which is why they were only ever going to be able to seal Ganon. Sonia, being descended from the original Zonai Zelda and Rauru would have had a child, but where the child was during the events of TotK Past is unknown. bada bim, bada boom, Ganon gets sealed away, Zelda turns into dragon, castle is built on top of Ganon to prevent the seal from breaking long enough for TotK Present Zelda and Link to be the clean up crew. The Sword was never present in the past until Link 'sent' it back, at least, not in the capacity where it was being wielded. The sword from that era was still sitting pretty in Kokiri Forest guarded by the Deku Tree, who had been guarding since the end of the 'split' timeline. Now, here's where I disagree with most people on how much time has passed. A lot of people say only 10,000 years passed between TotK Past and BotW Calamity Era. NOPE. It took Ganon 10,000 years from BotW Ancient Past to Calamity Era for him to build up enough strength and evil to unleash Calamity Ganon. Logic would mean it took him 10,000 years to build up enough power for the Ancient Past attack. For the sake of ease of understanding, BotW 100 years post Calamity is 100 PCE (Post Calamity Era), before the Calamity is BCE: - 20,000 BCE = Rauru, Sonia and the Sages face off against Ganon and seal him away. - 10,000 BCE = Documents detailing the sealing must have survived between these eras and the Ancient Calamity occurs, allowing the Sheika preparation. Not long after driving back Calamity Ganon, scared of the power the Sheika had provided, the King of Hyrule forced the Sheika into hiding and destroyed much of their knowledge, effectively cementing the future destruction of Hyrule. (fear makes people stupid, we know this) - 9,983 BCE = Now, the wiki says 9,883 years after the last calamity, the prophecy was told regarding the newly born Princess, but 9,883 + 17 does not = 10,000. I think its meant to be 9,983 BCE, otherwise Ganon emerged 100 years early. - CE = All hell breaks loose on Zelda's 17th birthday, Ganon, knowing how he was defeated last time was able to corrupt the Divine Beast and Guardians, sh!t hits the fan, Link falls and Zelda goes off to hold Ganon off in an epic staring contest that lasts 101 years. - 100 PCE = Link wakes, regenerates (possibly took a year judging how long in game it takes to travel by horse (i know, i know, fast travel, but that's a game mechanic)), saves Zelda and vanquishes Calamity Ganon, but the damage is done. The Castle that was supposed to help seal off Ganon has been all but reduced to rubble and severely damaged, allowing the seal to start weakening. - 103 PCE = Gloom has been escaping from Ganon, the seal breaks, Zelda gets sent back in time, and the rest, you know how it goes. She wasn't able to change the past because that is how it was supposed to occur. They were supposed to fail against Ganon and triumph over him in 103 PCE. As far as I am aware, BotW and TotK are the only games that have a set amount of time between events of the past that are specifically written or said in game. It's how we know, 10,000 years passed between the ancient Calamity and the BotW one. We know Link was asleep for 100 years. We know 2-3 years passed between the end of BotW and Present TotK. But it also explains, with the destruction of knowledge by the King of Hyrule in 10,000 BCE, why Zelda only knows fragments of Zonai History, or the fact they existed at all. That's my theory on the timeline and how everything can be explained in a way that makes sense. It's how I interpreted the information we were given in game. Hope it made sense to ya'll.

This is a lot to respond to, so I'll just pick part, the time between calamities. I think Malice accumulates much faster than 10,000 years. One if the key functions of the Sheikah Tech was to suck that up and convert it into energy to power their technology. This is why I think, it had taken 10,000 years for a new Calamity to emerge, because they were actively siphoning the Malice as it generated. Before they established the technology and started siphoning it, I think it took considerable less time to accumulate. Perhaps 100 years. We don't know for sure, but what is clear is that 10,000... 20,000... or more is a poposterous amount of time to past.

Zelda's have the blood of the goddess, but they're all their own entities. Hylia reverts to her divine form once the first Zelda passes. At least, that's how I figure it. Think of it like The Green Mile. John Coffey gives Paul a little bit of himself, and it gives Paul a LOT of life, but John is still John. N.B. I know that giving a li'l bit of yourself isn't equal to reincarnation, I'm just saying that in that situation, and in the situation of, you know, regular people having kids, something of the original person is passed through the bloodline. Mystery 26, Rauru´s body only started to decay after the castle was damage in the calamity 100 years ago. Mystery 29, when SS Zelda dies Hylia can exist again as a goddess because only SS Zelda is the reincarnation as the other Zeldas are just descendants of her or Hylia being the goddess of time isn´t constrained by time, Botw isn´t and has never been intend as a reboot. Botw and Totk are in the same continuity as the old games

Don't expect a lot of arguments for me, that's what discord is for. Still, I will at least give a base response. 8. Word of God needs to be taken with a grain of salt, especially when it contradicts things that are stated in game. There are a lot of potential explanations that can explain this away without it being apart of past games in timeline, and I bring this up throughout my videos a lot. For example, the Zora Tablets, which I will remind you were scrubbed in TotK, could easily have been talking about the Ancient Sage of Water, who may be named Ruto. She fought alongside a Princess did she not, and couldn't Rauru be considered a "Hero"? Again, I'm not going to fight over this in my comments. 20. The implication of my inquire was that the storm would be Over 10,000 years old. 21. And what evidence do you have they are replicas? There are many in the community who believe them to be legit. 26. This is not stated in game. That was stated in an interview, which I would point out, came out after my initial video where I presented that mystery. Regardless, Word of God and Death of the Author apply. If you are unfamiliar with those writing tools, go look them up on TV Tropes. 29. This is entirely speculation on your end. The way SS presents it is that Hylia gave up her existence to reincarnate. Zelda from that game is only reclaiming memories of Hylia, she isn't a new Hylia herself. Hylia, the spirit of that entity, is implied to have died, and it is entirely conjecture on your end that her spirit would reappear when Zelda had died. You say that TotK and BotW are in the same continuity as the old games, but BotW and TotK fail to properly embrace it. What connections were in BotW were walked back in TotK. If you don't like my views, I'm not going to argue with you about it, so please move on.

@@PixelFusionProductions 8. the Zora princess is describe as a tomboy no indication of that can be seen from the Zora sage, the monuments was damage that is why Sidon made his own and Rauru would be the legendary king not hero. 21. that you can get multiple of certain when they break like the Goddess sword.

@Ahouro 8. We do not know enough about the nature of the Ancient Sage of Water to evaluate how feminine or m _asculine she m_ ay have been. Consider though, that the Sheikah may have modeled the Divine Beasts after aspects of the Ancient Sages. If so, then wouldn't the names associated with those beasts, Medoh, Rudania, Nabboris, and Ruto also be fitting to be based off those sages? I believe the ancient sage of water was named Ruto, and I believe the Zora Tablet is speaking of her, not the Ruto from Ocarina of Time. I will admit that when BotW came out, they clearly were referencing the Ocarina. TotK decided to pull back on those connections, and thus I conclude BotW & TotK are their own continuity... a reboot. 21. I am not actually claiming they are the legit pieces of the past, others do. I have a far more interesting theory regarding them. Check out my video on if Amiibo Items are canon. I address a really interesting aspect there, and present the *Only Instances* I think that there is a connection, a legitimate connection, to the original games / timeline. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hIW0d41-gNyZrNk

There is a theory that skyward sword's time traval caused a timeline split. when demise is defeted in the past Zelda would have awoken no longer needing to hold the seal. Recognising the isue that would caouse for the future, she could have reverted back to her goddes form to merge the timelines. This would lead to her being present in every game as both Zelda and Hylia. If this is true she could have merged the three other timelines causing a refounding of Hyrule and kick off the telling the BotW and TotK.

Now bad writing has been blamed for the sky islands being invisible, when the touching of the stone by Zelda is the obvious reason for the new timeline to exist. …it’s a tad upsetting…. I’m going to keep watching for now… 2:48

The problem is that the game portrays Zelda's time travel as circular. Ganondorf is under the castle because he was sealed there in the past, in part because a time traveling Zelda went to the past. This is why he knows her name at the start of the game.

Yup, it certainly seems Nintendo basically retconned everything with TOTK. I would have been fine with it if the game had a better and richer developed plot and more to do regarding the main story.

I just wish they would come out and say it was a reboot. It really doesn't fit in the established Lore, and it feels like an entirely new origin to the world.

You are overthinking items that were clearly shown in the beginning cut scenes. I suggest you play again with attention to the cut scenes. …everything will make since if you believe what they show you. Zelda touches the time stone, then a new past is suddenly placed over top of the present. That is what I see, how’s about you? …Tom

Again, the game presents itself with circular timeline logic. The past wasn't modified by her because the events always happened. The memories establish this clearly.
