There’s definitely a art to installing axles with heavy c-clips. On our lifted bikes with super heavy axles, almost twice the weight of a stock one, we have to beat them in with a hammer. And they sometimes still pop out. In the front diff y’all will want to use automatic trans fluid. Polaris has a very unique 4wd system. When it’s in 4x4 it’s actually in 2 until the rear tires spin. They normally have to spin 1/3 rotation or so befor it will engage. That way it handles like it’s in 2wd but when you need it it’s a true all wheel drive. Has it’s pros and cons but I really like them. Keep up the good work guys !
@gabecoolidge68255 жыл бұрын
I know a lot about those hawkeyes. The stock clutch lets the engin to get up around 2500 before it really goes. Your right, theres only high, neutral, and reverse. thats it. the high range is geared low but the stock clutch sort of makes up for that.

I just spent easter at my Grandma and her husband is like the coolest guy. He owns loads of forestry land with roads taversable only by foot, ATV and Tractor. There are 7 lakes surrounded by his land. I think its about 150 km3 of land. So safe to say we can buzz around on his Goes 525s quad. 600 cc top speed of 50 - 55 mph or 84 kmh. At least thats what me and my lil bro pushed it to by even ducking down to decrease drag. This was done on an abandonned 1.5 mile stretch of 2 lane road that used to be the old main Highway. It runs parralel to the new one. We use a atv trail that probably was the entryway to an old house at the start of it. So private access to an old road and a long stretch of top speed test track. Man it was fun. Also went super offroad mode in a place with no trail and a compass

Correct the Hawkeye was a budget minded ATV that Polaris put some high end features such as the independent suspension. However to cut cost they used a CVT instead of the Polaris PVT dual speed system on the bigger bikes like the Sportman.

No low on those models all Polaris’s have a right hand side shift arm and it would be inscribed on the handle if it had it I believe only sportsman’s and rzrs are equipped with a low gear scramblers may have had it too but the Hawkeyes were the lower price point atv and didn’t have a low “haul” gear however sportsman or scramblers (if they do have a low gear) transmissions are a direct bolt up from similar years to that Hawkeye and are relatively easy to come by via Facebook market Craigslist or eBay! I’ve been working on Polaris’s as a side hustle since I started college 4 years ago great machines and parts are plentiful but good tech advice and trouble shooting can be hard to come by good luck I’ve been watching this channel since the beginning love relaxing and seeing what you all are up too!

As one of the ones who suggested it did i was clear on my lack of knowing if it had high or low. Merely suggested it since there are 4 wheelers with such deals. That said there was a slew of people who were of dickish comments. I wasnt afraid to note how slow it was either for what it is, cause it is on the slow side. While not a major fan of it now they always revisit their stuff and improve on em. Time will tell. All that said im sure most everyone who hated on it still sat and watched this vid lol.

I read the service manual. It has no High/Low. The trans has forward and reverse. Original engine had 17hp. Pure CVT setup and engine RPM determine top speed. Ground speed from factory was about 50MPH on hard flat ground. Final drive ratio was very high suggesting original engine probably turned higher RPM than the predator.

Me personally I’d find a replacement Polaris 300 motor to put in here.youre going to get the correct speed and torque for it. Plus if you do mods to it you can get it faster. I believe the Hawkeye had somewhere around 30 hp with a top speed in the high 40s. The 420 doesn’t have the hp or the rpms for the cvt. That cvt was specifically designed for the original 300 that was in it. If you choose to keep the 420, I’d recommend putting a 40 series cvt on it.
