I used to own a 1974 Dodge Charger Brougham Edition SE with a 4 barrel 318cui and a 904r4 transmission with, possi-traction, mds race ignition box & coil, high-performance flex fan and transmission cooler, Krager SS rims 8" in front and 12" in the rear, and 2 5/8 " dual flowmasters straight back with flowmasters mufflers and chrome slant truck tips. I had the car looking brand new inside and out. The paint scheme is candy color yellow, with black vinyl top, and black rear wing, with chrome trim. On the Dyno at the DMV off of Washington Street in Pheonix Arizona it was putting out 275hp at the rear wheels @ 2300 rpm!

The Dual Quads had to have the Air Fuel Mixture just right you had to have the touch and watch the tail pipes. You never wanted to see black ash in the tail pipes that meant to rich had to be tan or right around that at the end of the tail pipe that is when you knew you were in the ball park and the gas mileage did get a hell of a lot better with timing and Fuel Air mixture. They make the Electronic ignition conversion kit for the big block and you don't have to play points every weekend.

hemi's are unlike any other motor,gear reduction starters were slow on turn over,so they had to be in perfect tune,after they were hot,they'd start all day long,425 underated horses,all of them starving all the time,most people claimed 12-14 mpg on a tuned up motor,but they were meant to be driven and driven hard,they are not HANGER QUEENS

Most comments loved this car. Just came across it. It's gorgeous. I own an A-12 440 6 bbl Road Runner and a 1970 RT /SE 440 Charger. 54 yrs old yesterday and in the last month i bought my first new mopar. Red Eye. What a damn fine car that is. I have been racing for 33 yrs and i can't wait to go into the 34th with the ROAD RUNNER and RED EYE. The Charger will take a year of track racing off but will be driving the streets.

It is my car. The reason the Ramcharger was so slow was cause the car was idling and the scoop is vacuum operated and has to work against a spring. When driving it is somewhat faster. I enjoy thee car more and more but just don't drive it as much as I should. Kim

@Ynzevdz Most think it was to get through the coming emission laws. There was never any emission equipment on the car. For the choke cable they used a vent cable and turned it upside down and put a red "choke" sticker over the upsided painted VENT.

Why did you pump the gas pedal when you first got in ? After a month of sitting them float bowls are bone dry , just pumping air until that motor spins over and pumps up some gas. Unless you have a electric pump hooked up ?

I'm thinking that has an aftermarket cam in it, I remember Hemis as having a fairly smooth idle.
@jlo138007 жыл бұрын
They can converted into a 2 stroke with a custom cam 1:1 running crank speed, intake exhaust open at the same time and blower for scavenging. This make a valved loop charge 2 stroke. This what a toyota DOCH 2 stroke valved engine does.
@fredc83465 жыл бұрын
It does sound like it may be, or maybe it is just running a little rough. Many guys with original looking or restored cars, especially those that run their cars at the strip and want it to perform well run a little bigger cam or maybe run one with similar specs but more modern ramps so they are actually quite a bit more cam. No way to tell without testing or pulling the cam out to see, so they can fudge the truth. These cars came with a pretty mild cam and who would want it to sound like grandmas dodge. These really were not the street killers like many that were not around those days seem to think. The 440's especially the six packs ran right with these, were cheaper and less temperamental. Cool engine and history though.

started up pretty easy! whats with the pussy footing carb primer pumping? those are afb's not holleys. afb's like and need it rough. the leather wrapped accel pumps (quality kits still come with them) dry out from long sit/or intense summer time heat.. get rude with em! 6-8 violent/rapid pumps was the ideal cold start method back in the day. this also shakes the floats and needles in a carter carb. not all foreign objects get trapped by the filter. both the afb and avs designs like it rough.
