The 42ppd lenses are at least a great peak into the future. If the 12k would have interchangeable lenses, it could use glass aspheric for cropped panel for normal FOV and reach 42ppd.

Peak into the future is correct. Like with most of the hardware, you have to try yourself. Of course this is far from being perfect, but I'm very sure about a cool progress in VR, let's see who will lead in the year 2024.

@@liebesmaennchen I just hope that Pimax keeps developing this interchabagle lens thing.. i think it has great promise. Just make it as easy as possible, that you could just switch lenses as fast as games. Makes much more sense than having headsets that are specific for one FOV or usecase.

@Nobody-Nowhere I agree, to be honest, I didn't even use the screws anymore. The magnet is strong enough to hold the lenses. So very simple quick swap. This is funny, that is one of the things you will only appreciate, once you have used it. Do you know what I mean?

Could you elaborate on the issues you had with your lighthouse faceplate? I'm just curious if you had the same issue I have where it can't detect the faceplate.

Hi! Yes of course, I'm on the beta branch and I also got the LH Faceplate as a pre-production unit. Since I got the LH Faceplate, everything was working as it should. Once the 72hz FW came out (beta version) I had problems with connecting to the LH Faceplate. Pimax developer helped me via remote session and we managed to find the bug so that no other user, would suffer from this bug. This is one of the reasons, why the 1.17 Update was not released in October.

Are you using the regular virtual desktop that you buy in steam? I thought VD wasn't compatible with the Crystal. In the last interview with Pimac they said that the developer was considering making a Pimax compatible VD. I would love to know more about where to get this VD. This looks very cool!

Yes. It is the normal steam version, with this version you can also use the Aero and G2. The other version of VD is the standalone version. I have all three, VD for Pico, meta and steam vr. Super VD supporter :D. Back then with the Rift CV1 and Rift S, I tried using my desktop to work, but the resolution was too low. But now, with the 42ppd, this is working so great, but like I said in the video, not until Hmds getting smaller and lighter. I think with the BSB, the experience could be very good. I'm also bought the founders edition of the Visor.

Welche Lighthouse Stationen hast du? v1 oder v2? Hast du mit LH auch ein Tracking-Problem mit den Index-Controller? (Meine alten Vive Wands hab ich noch nicht probiert) Die Controller fkt. zu 95% und obwohl sie in Sichtweite von zumindest einer Station sind, verliert einer davon kurz die Verbindung und schwebt dann, ka., 1m vor dem Körper. Bewegt sich mit den Armbewegungen, aber halt verschoben. Sowas schonmal gehabt?

Servus! Es sind 3x Basestation 2, 2x HTC und 1x Valve. Tracking Probleme hatte ich nur mit der Betaversion von Steam, in Kombination mit der Beta FW von der Crystal. Das war aber meist mit 1x neustarten von Steam VR behoben. Nun gibt es überhaupt kein Problem mehr, das Tracking funktioniert extrem gut, wobei ich gestehen muss, dass ich fast mehr das inside out Tracking verwende, weil ich da keine Basestation einschalten muss. Cool ist es schon, dass es so einfach "on the fly" geht, ohne alles neustarten zu müssen.

@@liebesmaennchenSeas! 3x v2 wäre natürlich optimal... aber der Preis^^ Aber gut, wenn das Tracking perfekt ist (und so hab ich's von der Vive 1 in Erinnerung), dann werd ich mir das evtl. gönnen. LH ist imho um Welten besser als IO, da ich dort nicht nur Probleme mit dem Controller-Tracking habe, sondern auch der Kopf teils... "seitlich verschiebt" (im Sitzen; da sitzt zb. in DCS dann neben dem Cockpit) bzw. stehend hab ich das Problem, dass man langsam immer weiter einsinkt und nach ~10min ist man im Boden verschwunden oder das Gegenteil passiert und man ist in der Luft und erreicht den Boden mit den Controller/Händen nicht mehr. Gut, das war am Anfang wie ich das HMD bekommen habe; evtl. läufts mit den letzten FW Updates besser. Cheers!

@@liebesmaennchenWill do, danke! Btw, weil ich's selbst erst grad probiert habe: hast schon mal die Pimax Experience als "Hintergrund" probiert? Ich finde ja PimaxPlay (so wie du) extrem genial für eine Hersteller-App (von dem komischen Englisch abgesehen^^), aber die Experience ist sogar noch besser imho! Da kannst alles(?) on the fly in VR umstellen, Desktop mode, VR-Games aus allen Plattformen bzw. selbst importieren inkl. eigener Profile (Video & Controller) pro Game... ich glaub ich hab noch gar nicht alle Features gefunden^^ Das geilste an Pimax ist sowieso dass man alle Games aller Stores "einfach so" zocken kann... meine ganzen alten Oculus Games, die mit Revive auf der Vive 1 Probleme gemacht haben, kein ding mehr 🙂

If the crystal defaults to a lower resolution with 42 PPD due to needing less Distortion correction would you mind doing a video on the 42 PPD lenses with a little bit of super sampling involved IE to push the extra resolution the 35 PPD lens defaults to? It should provide greater benefit with a little bit of extra super sampling. After the announcement of the XR4 with its 45 PPD from varjo I really hope the company decides to make the 42 PPD lenses in glass. It's VRGIMP27 from Pimax forums if you remember me at all lol.

Good video, since I got the 42PPd I haven't actually been tempted to go back yet, the clarity is too good. Sure the FOV is smaller by about 20% but it's still larger than I get with my quest 2, and I was lost with that for 3 years. Strange thing is, did you notice that the performance is better at 42ppd vs 35? In steam at 100% it reports about 4100 pixels vertical, but with the 35ppd it reports about 5100. Strange I'm not sure how a reduction of 20% FOV and 20% less pixels equals 20% higher PPD. 35 +7 =42 7/35 = 20%

Pixels stay fixed, meaning the physical resolution of the panel. The larger render resolution is for distortion correction, and super sampling antialiasing. The 42PPD lenses probably have less barrel distortion, and thus do not require as much extra render resolution. Cool to hear that the 42PPD lenses are actually something usable, outside of just curiosity, movie and desktop usecases.

Try adjusting the left and right eye position , I adjusted it and it made a huge difference .

I'm not 100% sure what you mean. You can reset your view, but you cant "walk" around like in the cinema. You can change the screen etc. Did you mean that?

Yes, you're right. I think, that the steam version of VD, doesn't get any new features anymore. But so to say, it doesn't matter which app you use, the 42ppd lenses looking awesome

Thx for watching, mhm, I don't know about that. I think many user's would benefit from the 42ppd lenses. The lenses I use, are prototype lenses and well, maybe we will see better lenses in the future.
