This video is a bit of self indulgence on my part.
Having gone through the trauma of severe long Covid and spending a month in hospitaI I needed to tell the story of my experience and how emotional the event was for me.
The video is upsetting and emotional in places so if you don't watch it all or choose not to watch at all thats absolutely fine by me, after all its a video for me, by me as a diary to look back on.

Thank you for sharing your experience. My sister in law died from complications with Covid. They placed her in a coma at one point but days before she died, she seemed to rally and was able to talk to family on the phone. I think one of the hardest parts of this terrible epidemic is that once a person is hospitalized, family are not allowed much access and there is no family advocate for the patient. I am so happy you survived and that you were willing to participate in programs to help with research. God Bless you Steve.

I work in a hospital here in Massachusetts USA. I see covid patient daily but our conversations have been minimal due to the majority being on ventilators. Absolutely brilliant video Steve, very emotional and tear jerking. I'm a retired nurse and would willingly have come out of retirement to help if it were not for my own health issues. All I could do was make face masks for family and friends. So so pleased you are back home, Gary has kept us up to date with your progress. Thank you for telling us your journey and for relating that you thanked the Lord for your continued life. What courage you had with this sickness. I know you and your wife went through so much. i know what a CPAP is as I use one each night. When my sweet husband passed away from cancer (my husband had one of those machines for breathing). I couldn’t understand why I didn’t dream about him. When I got the CPAP I dreamed about him that first week. I was so, so glad. Take care Steve and Chris.

Hi Steve, have been hovering on and off whether to watch your covid journey but today sat and had a quiet time and have really engaged with your difficult challenge with this terrible infection. I think it has been very brave to do what you have put together and an eye opener too. I was so pleased to see you and Chris stood in your side hatch. Well done on your recovery. Our eldest son who is 55 and lives in California also contracted covid back in January, does not know how he caught it or who from as he is single, lives alone and also works from home, he had some of the symptoms you described with the severe tiredness, loss of appetite, taste & smell and aching all over, but also dreadful sickness and diarrhea. Was ill in bed a week before feeling up to getting out to go for a test which came back positive. He has thankfully recovered and did not require any medical intervention but was a very worrying time as we could not travel over there to look after him. So your story really brought it home just how he could have been affected the same as you. You have made a lovely tribute to the NHS team who cared for you. Chris must also have been so worried and glad she managed to recover too. Still take it slowly and now look forward to some nice weather so that once the network is opened up fully you can do what you both love best. Very best wishes to you both, look forward to see your 24/7 on the move too.

Dear Steve, Chris and Smudge Thank you for sharing your experience with us, I am sure that telling your story will help you to heal and will also give hope to others. We were moved to tears listening to your experience, it certainly puts everything in to perspective and how blessed we are here in Canada and in Britain to have doctors and nurses who really care about their patients. We are so glad to hear that you are now on the mend and that Chris had a mild form of covid. In Canada we are now in our 3rd wave and its the younger people that are now in the hospital and sadly some are losing their lives from covid due to the variants of concern. It was a really beautiful vlog Steve. Truly... it was. I know this has been a harrowing and emotional experience for both you and Chris and the girls but it was a story that needed to be told. So many people are desensitized to Covid and the affects it has really had the world over. Unless it affects them in a personal way they just could care less and show as much in their actions, comments and behavior towards others. May God bless you and Chris (and Smudge) as you continue your journey in life and aboard AmyJo with a renewed sense of self and appreciation for all life has to offer. @@LifeonboardAmyJo Thank you Steve, but I had retired from ward nursing in 2017 after 20+ years working in Palliative/Longterm Care. Your vlog brought back so many thoughts and memories with my colleagues. I now continue to work as a nurse, but in a different capacity still doing what I can for people out there affected by disability. Take care of yourselves....Enjoy your cruise! xx

Hi Steve good to see you back on your boat. Sorry you went through what you did. It’s good you done this video for all those who thought the virus was not quite what the government was saying and that includes me. For me it made realise how serious the virus is, I always followed the rules but never took the virus seriously. I now think what a fool I was. God bless you mate.
