If you go over the same spot multiple times, the white will mix in with the underneath resin instead of making a nice thin sheet over the top. Try only one pass with the heat gun, and lay it over as far as you can so you're not digging down into the resin

Hi there - great video that I’ve watched countless times before. Can I just ask you or anyone else’s advice - do you go back over the waves with more white resin to thicken up the front of the waves to make them more prominent? Thank you for anyones help in advance 👍🏼
@Procrastipainter2 жыл бұрын
Sorry, only just saw your comment! You can totally do that to make a solid white wave front. Not if you want the cells though
@SPS_survivor2 жыл бұрын
No, I just meant the very crest of the wave that gives it that 3D boost if you like. You kind of did it when I just rewatched it to tidy up the front of that last wave 👌🏼👍🏼🌊 - I’ve got some wooden panel art boards from Amazon, bought all the foliage, plaster and have created a seascape scene with my own rocks/cliff and trees right down to the small sandy beach. Where the trees (moss) meet the sand it reminds me of Cape Tribulation from one of my backpacking trips around Australia. It’s all inside the frame so its enclosed to hold the resin inside … just need to pluck up the courage to go for it with the ocean. I think I’ll keep it relatively calm with gentle waves but I’m going to start with about a 2mm layer of clear resin as a base. If (when) it works out would you like to see? Perhaps I could put my instagram name on here for you to judge 😉 I’m glad I’ve found something that I can lose myself in as I’m stuck in a lot due to a disability affecting my back and walking. I’m very thankful to people like you who take time to produce videos for us to learn. Thank you ❤

This is spectacular! I'm new to resin and struggling with creating the cells. Do you make up the blue and white resins at the same time so they've both stood for 20 minutes before you add the white? Your white resin looks much thicker than mine, is that due to the amount of powder added? Is your heat gun at low temp? Sorry for the naive questions, just trying to understand. Any advice welcome! Thanks. David
@Procrastipainter15 күн бұрын
Hi David! Thanks for watching and for your kind words 🥰💙 Your questions are good! Yes I mix one batch of resin and separate to mix in colours. My resin is kinda thick to start with, but I wait for it to be about the consistency of cold honey before I lay down the white. This will likely be different for you (what resin are you using?) but you can do a test on some coasters to see when your particular resin will hold the cells. My heat gun is set to about 250-300C and high flow. All the best of luck and sorry for the very late reply!

You have mastered the cell technique... I'm trying REALLY hard to get it... Sometimes it works, other times it's a cloud. When you use your heat gun, how hot do you get it? Does the heat play into the formation of the cells? Also, your white pigment...you mix with clear resin, yes? I've tried several things, from white mica powder to spray paint to cheap acrylic. I just bought some titanium white paint in a tube that's really thick compared to the cheap white paint in a plastic bottle. I'm in america, so I can't get the brand you have, but I'm wondering if your pigment is the same as what I just picked up. I have yet to try, but I hope it makes a difference for me. Cells are the one thing I can't seem to lock down...it's either hit or miss with me. They either look super awesome, or...I wanna sand it down and start over. Anyway, love your videos, I've watched a lot of them. I cannot believe you only have 731 subs. Your videos are great! Thank you for sharing!
@Procrastipainter4 жыл бұрын
Thank you but I get clouds too! More so when it's not thick enough or I double-heat a section (try only one pass of the heat gun). You might be able to torch it and get some cells but a lot of the time it has mixed too much during the heating. My heat gun is on about half heat (prob around 250-300C). And yes I mix the titanium white pigment paste with the resin - no more than 10% pigment to resin. I found that I couldn't get enough pigment in for cells when using acrylic paint as the resin turned to hot toffee! You can get Just Resin products directly from their international website or through the American distributor artisttilldeath . com. I know other people get cells with Castin Craft and Mermaid Trash if that helps? Good luck! Thank you for watching and for your support!

@@Procrastipainter Thank you for your reply. I'm going to look for the products you recommend. Have you heard of Mermaid Foam? I saw something the other day about it. I've never heard of Mermaid Trash. I'm going to see if I can find the white pigment paste. I wish I could show you some of my work. The water and sand look great, but my waves need work. I think if I can get the cells down, my work will be on the next level. Do they make pigment pastes in other colors? Would be cool to do nebula space themes with other colors. Anyway, you're the best...thank you again
