Something to think about - I used to be a completely docked user. Like 100%. I found a good deal on an OLED, and ended up buying it. Since then, I’ve switched to being nearly only handheld. I think many people may be surprised at how the way they use their switch will change with the OLED, since the screen is better, it feels more solid, and the battery life is WAY better. Honestly, if you kept your switch in good condition, you should be able to fetch a decent price for it. Pick up a barely used OLED and you’ve got yourself an upgrade for like 50 bucks. Definitely worth it.

I’ve had a Switch since 2017 & I recently upgraded to the Switch OLED. I was the kind of user that played primarily in docked mode & occasionally in handheld mode. However, after upgrading to the OLED model I found myself using the Switch in handheld mode far more often. I now will regularly undock my Switch & just play it in handheld around the house when before I almost never did that. I didn’t expect the improvements to be so substantial but it’s almost like Switch 2 hardware with base switch internals. It’s not an essential upgrade but definitely has made a big difference for me!
@amysteriousviewer37722 жыл бұрын
The most noticeable difference for me were actually the bezels. I always found the original Switch bezels to be a bit big but going back to it after using the OLED for a while they seem comically large. It's crazy how much more immersive a screen is when it takes up more of a surface even when it's not even a major increase in actual screen size.
@RFNY3152 жыл бұрын
Definitely. I was actually going to make this post myself lol. Love that they got rid of the bezels (as much as they could anyways) I wonder why they were that large to begin with. In fact, the bezels are giving me pause on getting a steam deck. They seem a little large there too.

I picked up the OLED about a year ago. Sold my day one system and a bunch of games for it and it was totally worth the upgrade. The build quality is SO much better and the kickstand is actually usable. Not to mention I LOVE the larger and far better-quality display panel. I've been enjoying gaming on the go so much more than on the original and I'm even using it away from my gaming monitor significantly more just because there isn't a huge difference in visual fidelity. If you use handheld/tabletop mode a lot and can afford it, I'd honestly say it's far more worth the upgrade than you think it would be.

Last year I played my Switch in handheld for a total of 7 days according to the yearly report. As that stats show, I’m mainly a dock user. I was hoping to stick to the OG Switch until the new Switch releases, but ended picking up the Pokemon Switch OLED version a few weeks ago. The biggest difference I notice is the weight/feel when comparing the two. Switch OLED feels more sturdy probably due to the higher quality materials as you mentioned. Another thing to note is the bezels. I didn’t mind them on my OG Switch, but man what a difference it makes when comparing the two. In 2023 I’ll definitely be playing in handheld a lot more than 7 days.
@fryke2 жыл бұрын
Total agreement. Granted, it was a bit easier for me: My choice was to either keep the Switch lite and add a normal one for docked mode - or sell the lite and upgrade to either the normal one or OLED one. Choice was very easy then. Coming from the lite, the OLED felt a bit big and heavy at first, but after a week, that was forgotten, and I've never looked back. If they'd drop an OLED lite now, I'd probably add one, though, since I kinda just love how compact it'd feel when out and about.

I've had the OLED for just about 4 months now. Once I got the OLED the original Switch just sat in the corner and whenever I picked it up I really noticed how major of a difference the screen was; the OLED is totally worth the upgrade. I didn't play as much in handheld with the OG Switch and when I got the OLED I began and have kept playing in handheld since then. I play the majority of the time in handheld mode now and before with the OG model I maybe played handheld 25% of the time at most. The OLED made me WANT to play in handheld and combined with the kickstand which I also use as a sort of grip it's fantastic on the great screen. The size and filling out the bezel of the Switch tablet really makes it better. I just sold my launch Switch this last week and have no regrets though I do miss the memories of the early days of Switch. If anyone is on the fence I think it's totally worth the upgrade. To me it's more than just the screen; it's the way I play, the better battery, the grip, and more. Going back to the original Switch feels so dated imo. If you just play docked and don't care about handheld play so much then it's not worth it but if you want to play in handheld more and like handheld it's definitely worth it.

For the people who don't own a switch and want to, it has reached an awkward stage where if you buy one now they might release new hardware 1 year later or less, but on the other hand you'll have to wait 1 year or so to play the games that you want to play. Who knows, Nintendo might suprise us with new hardware with the release of BOTW2.

I don't imagine it'll be out next year with BOTW2. I think we are looking more like 2024. While sales are certainly slowing down and Sony is getting a larger piece of the pie, the switch is still selling very well. It takes time to ramp up the production of the new model that they would only start having pressure from investors now since it is only now slowing down.
@echosierra9990 Жыл бұрын
It all depends on the direction Nintendo goes. If they they upgrade the Switch to the Switch +, with a more powerful CPU and GPU, then it might make sense to wait. It if they go in a different direction with a different type of physical media for games, the current Switch has a MASSIVE library of games to play, making it a better overall purchase. I honestly don’t expect a new upgraded console until 2025. Nintendo is going to wait until the chip market stabilizes more, before trying to launch a brand new console, with brand new chipsets.

I was really worried about my OLED not fitting inside my Satisfye grip, since its the only way I can play for more than a few minutes with my Switch. But a simple mod can make it fit without issue. Just removing one of the rubber holders helps make enough space for the unit. Theres tutorials on KZbin. Look them up before buying another grip.

I’m a 15/85, handheld/docked player, and I got the OLED knowing full well I would benefit the least considering I only ever play on the go when I travel, which is maybe 8-9 times a year. But I still recommend it - because when you DO play handheld, it’s like a night and day difference with the screen. Plus, as Kevin said, you can feel the difference in the build quality. And finally, pretty much any special edition is always going to be for the OLED model. Case in point, Splatoon 3. I sold my original OLED and got one…..don’t know who has seen it up close, but it is hands down one of the most gorgeous consoles Nintendo has ever released!

We never even considered the regular Switch for handheld gaming. The joy cons felt very loose and overall we just didn't like it as a handheld device. After getting 1 OLED I was so blown away by the display and build quality that we bought another OLED the same day we bought the first one and got rid of the regular Switch and Switch Lites we had. Just the display alone is reason enough for a handheld player to upgrade imho. Especially if your handheld one is the Switch Lite. Now we both have an amazing handheld gaming experience and just dock one of the Switches when we want to play together (or solo) on the big screen. We did get a grip case on Amazon that still allows us to dock our Switches because the switch alone made my hands hurt after only a few minutes. But apart from that the Switch OLED is the perfect console for both of us.

I was about to buy one last year, but then my brother decided that he was done with his redbox switch and just gave it to me. So I now have two switches, and getting an OLED seems extremely unnecessary, despite me loving OLED displays

I'm 99% certain a switch 2 isn't coming for at least another 2-3 years with the wild success the Pokémon games are having as well as Splatoon 3 being so massive (I'm sure it'll continue it's updates for 2+ years) so I'm very much considering updating to an OLED

I first got my hands on the switch a few months after it had released. Sadly, though, it (unexpectedly) broke just a few years later. As of today, I’m currently waiting on the Mario red OLED model to release, as I’m planning on upgrading to that one very soon.

In case you weren't aware, the OLED is actually physically larger than the OG by a small degree, not just the screen.

I love the oled for all above mentioned features but that Battery life is amazing!

I only played docked mode because i have a V1 and just didn't like the switch in handheld mode. I decided to preorder a TOTK OLED in hopes that it'll help me enjoy handheld mode more than previously. Only time will tell but I'm feeling pretty good about the purchase.

Reason I haven’t bought one yet is because I’m waiting to see if the release a limited edition of the Oled for tears of the kingdom

People don't realize the huge gap between playin on the OLED and playing on a regular switch. The size of the screen, the fact theres barely a black edge to it so you're more immersed, and obviously the quality of the screen (for real, better screen than a lotta smartphones). Some games look definitely better, not "a bit better", a LOT better. Never regretted sellin my old switch for it, worth a 100 bucks upgrade.

If a newer console comes out, the Switch will be discounted, the OLED will be discounted, and the Lite may be same. But I think there will be a market for all 4. The NS2 will for sure be delayed or back-ordered or on a half year waiting list. So it's all possible in 2024.

Hello people of the internet.. I was think about picking an OLED switch up, but already own a normal switch when it first came out.. Now I wonder if I'm able to keep my old games Progression for games I have bought on the Nintendo e-Shop for example.

Okay but did you know it's only 50$ more for a steam deck? The steam deck also had the ability to emulate all switch games and all consoles before! And it has the ability to play tons of steam games! You can even get other launchers like battle net and epic games! You can even install windows!
@Yodagamer12 жыл бұрын
True, but I'm a sucker for physical and oled screens. Plus tbh I only paid about $100 for mine after selling my old switch model. The steam deck is fantastic though. I'd probably advise waiting on buying the switch just because they'll probably release a new one in a few years.

The Deck struggles to emulate many retro games. In fact, even last gen AAA titles barely get 45fps on mid settings (GTA V runs at 30fps for example..In 2023) Not every Switch game is optimized either so throw that out the door. The Deck also feels like you are holding a Wii U pad. Bulky. While the Switch is more streamlined. Switch has a better battery so I can play my games longer on the go. It’s also really nice to not constantly hold the Switch, unlike my Deck. You’d be surprised how nice it is to just sit it down for a bit on a table or window seal while you are pooping

Upgraded to OLED this year, wouldn’t go back. But the important thing here is that you need to tell the viewers where you got that T-shirt 🔥

While I would’ve loved a spec bump, getting the oled switch was a great upgrade to my launch model switch. If I had a 2019 Switch with the mariko chip I don’t think I would’ve upgraded. But the oled screen AND battery battery life over my launch switch made it a great upgrade. I play mostly docked, but I’ve been playing and enjoying handheld mode way more with my oled switch.

I had the O.G. Switch and a Sword and Shield Switch Lite. I am so happy that I Switch-ed to the OLED! I got it right before Xenoblade 3 came out and playing it on the OLED was awesome! It is so much better that my kid's are a bit jealous. So, I decided, for the heck of it, to get the Scarlet and Violet Switch OLED for myself and letting the kids play on the O.G. OLED. LOL!

I remember when Oled first time came out, I wanted to get it for my birthday. But everywhere had stock shortages, so my birthday came closer and closer, I had no choices to get the version 2. I’m happy with my choice. But now I’m thinking to get it for past 2 weeks. 🤣

After buying a switch oled i soon realized it also has quick resume just like xbox, but instead of showing you the game cover art for 5 seconds before resuming like on xbox the switch just immediately resumes the game and instead of taking 2 and a half days to install borderlands 3 and or skyrim it only took 45 minutes for both its way faster then my xbox and Im now currently a nintendo fan

Iove the oled but I can't lie the switch lite feels so much better in the hand! 💯
@marksapollo2 жыл бұрын
I plan on getting a Switch Lite, seeing this video did make me think otherwise but then comments like yours, setting the Lite is still better in the hands makes me want the Lite still. I do t want to buy a Switch OLED trunk get a grip to make it as big as a Steam Deck just so it’s comfortable to use. Especially when I want a portable system. But then you can put the OLED tablet bit in a slim case and put the joycons in another pocket and play it in table top mode I guess?
