A re-review today of a budget watch that has become a bit of a legend over the last decade. And it is a Casio I love that doesn't have a digital display. Shock horror! It is big, it is quartz, and the lume is crap (as with all sub-$100 divers) but it is such a nice, clean design for the money. Cheers, Jody

Greetings and Complications gentlemen! A concern came to me these days, when talking about quartz watch and battery change. Will I lose my water and diving resistance if I change the battery? Many told me that his battery watches that were waterproof, after changing the battery he lost that resistance. It's that true?

I watched this video again today and it made me remember that, when I was first starting down the rabbit hole of collecting watches, it was this video that turned me onto the Duro. My beautiful wife bought me the blue colourway for my birthday and once I had it I loved it so much I went on and eventually bought the other five colourway's as well. This wasn't my first watch however and my overall collection has grown over the last two years to around 100 watches (mostly Casios) It's the blue Duro I covet the most though and will keep for ever. I've had a Duro for a couple years. It's hands down my most accurate watch. I've only had to reset it during the time changes (every 6 months, USA). Set to the atomic clock it's only been a couple seconds off each time. Everybody needs one of these.

In fact my last 3 buys this year have been a Zelos auto which i sold on, a quartz with sapphire for less than 75$/£/€ and a Timex with mineral. I bought 2 of these, one for myself and one for a friend who is a licensed scuba diver. I took the original resin straps off and put on 22mm black rubber straps with red stitching from Strapsco. The red stitching matches the red second hand and makes the watch look more customized. I also bought a blue one and put it on a navy blue seatbelt single pass NATO strap.

I picked up the blue version from my local dept store a few weeks ago for for $41 with coupon and discount. I must say I have not been able to take it off. My Tag Heuer and Seikos have taken a sabbatical since I bought the Duro. I think because I picked it up at such a good price combined with the cult following of this watch it, “feels” extra nice when I wear it and I plan to ride the high as long as I can. Got one month ago two MDV-106, the blue and the black one. I have a 6,25 inch / 16.5 cm wrist and they sit just right on it - no wobble, discomfort, or silly look. The low profile of the case does the trick. I have nothing but praise for the included resin strap: it looks appropriate, breaks in a week, and becomes comfy as a good pair of slippers. I am also trying different straps, and Natos do work well for me. Highly recommended, amazing value for the money.

I'm impressed the second hand lines up pretty much the whole way around. Even on better quartz watches that's a rarity, you usually see it align for half a minute (mostly from 30 to 60) and be slightly off from there. This one seemed to hit the markers all the way through.

@@richardabazley yes he does! For UK buyers it's not a problem, due to trade agreements between US and UK Short story I got my first MDV106 few years ago, from this very helpful and chatty guy. The watch arrived in around a week and I didn't even notice that he ships from the States. Earlier this year I tried getting a few of Duro's from his store for me and my friends. But we noticed that he ships from US and we live in Greece. Getting a box with 10 brand new watches from US to Greece through Greek customs, would be a painful and very expensive experience.

Jody, thanks for the great video on this watch. I'm taking my wife on our first cruise next month and have been searching for a nice watch to wear on the formal dress dinner night. I'm a retired Coastie and don't feel a need to find something that I will only wear to weddings and funerals. Bottom line, I'm not posh. This watch ticks the boxes for me. Add a nice steel bracelet when I want to dress up, swap out for a rubber or Nato when I'm working in the garage or hitting the beach. LOL I also love the Duro stock resin trap - it wears great and manages heavier watches very well with comfort and excellent diver aesthetics. I especially like it on SKX-style islander *Spork* ISL-91 and my Casio *Arnie* AMW320R-1EV. The resin width and pressure extension baffles also make Protreks look slightly leaner! Would it be weird to buy another Duro just for the strap? Hmmm...

I am floored with the accuracy and features of a watch that can be had in 2024 for $49.99 off USA Amazon. Mine keeps to +4 seconds per MONTH. Outstanding. Screw down crown, 200M, ratcheting bezel, fair lume. I did get a black stainless bracelet (mine has the gold bezel treatment). Looks great with a bracelet. When the mineral crystal gets too abused . . . there are places who will drop in a sapphire crystal. ;-)

I recently purchased the blue version of the Duro and once in hand I have one comment. Wow, this thing seriously punches above its weight. It is a very quality unit (except band as you note). I paired it with a $20 medium brown leather band with cream stitching and it’s a looker and very comfortable. I’m not a huge fan of quartz watches but this watch and one of my Junkers are fantastic and keepers for sure. For the ~$55 one can’t go wrong.

I was really exciting to see you reviewing the Duro and I think I've watched every Duro vid on YT. I'm really in love with this watch, so much so, I got the last of the colorways -- the black/gold -- in yesterday. The Duro is truly my favorite watch. I have 10 or so straps of various kinds and love swapping it out regularly. I have a black leather with red stitching for the Bill G model that looks pretty hot and a plain black silicone is the most comfortable band I've ever owned and it looks snazzy on just about everything I throw at it. I was looking into modding mine. I found mod vids for filling the case with oil -- don't think that's for me -- and saw someone replaced the mineral crystal with a domed sapphire -- which is something I'd like to do. I haven't been able to find a DYI video on that yet, but saw the crystals themselves are around $40 and I'd have to get a press so I'll study on that a bit. It would be a fun project. I would love to pimp my Duro, but in the end it may be better to let a pro handle it. Hmm. I hope there are some new colorways for 2021. I'd love to have a white dial and a random bright color: "professional" like the Doxa would be pretty sweet, but I wouldn't say no to a Duro Hulk or Kermit either. What can I say -- there is something appealing about that little marlin.

And of course, thanks for the review. This is a great piece if you need something seriously waterproof and analogue, and don't mind the size. Many watches at this price might have a base metal body and chrome plating, but the Duro is full stainless. I had one for a couple years and it never gave me any trouble. I sold it for the same money I bought it for, after the case started to feel unnecessarily large. Totally recommended! You're not getting the utmost in finishing, but other than that it's a tank. The bezel action is surprisingly good.

Agree 100%, but you missed the perfect add-on strap option: you can get a soft black rubber, matching polished stainless buckle with black, white, blue or red stitching (to match the Duro seconds hand!) for $8 on Aliexpress! Works on a lot of sports watches in different colors. I've got one one a Timex Three GMT with blue stitching to match the bezel. Best "cheap" rubber strap I've seen.

There was a time I would only wear solar powered multiband watches. The convenience is out of this world. Not running out of juice, not having to set it! All started with the Casio Lineage LCD-M170D-1AER. I had one other iteration of the Lineage models and then moved to ProTrek with the white camo PRW-6000SC-7 imported from Japan and later a GST-B100D-1AER (paired with the brown leather strap seen on the GST-S130L-1A). Lately... I've been more appreciative of the delicate movements and artisanship of mechanical watches though. Right now in love with the Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight.

Its hard to justify the price of other quartz divers when this is available. Outstanding value for money. I recently replaced the crystal on mine after damaging the original, opted for a sapphire crystal with AR coating and a cyclops, only cost about £40, including having a professional do the replacement. I now have a properly certified dive watch, with sapphire glass, from reputable brand, all for less than £100. Amazing! I love how low it sits on the wrist too, with it being a quartz movement.

Like so many on here, my duro is my daily. I've put it through hell. Chipped crystal in 2 places, scratched case,bezel and crystal in several places and its only 6 months old. But that's exactly why its my daily. You so right about the resin strap. For 40 bucks that I paid for mine, I can buy straps all day long. Currently on a generic marine nationale. And I absolutely love it. I even put a magnifyer on it because my old tired eyes couldn't read the date. Awesom watch to be sure.

I have one and I love it. I replaced the bracelet with a black and grey Bond NATO strap. That watch is so cool that it definitely deserves a re-review. I predict that for the next color Casio may likely put out a green one, the Duro "Hulk".

I bought a blue one yesterday. I like it a lot, I want a watch that is essentially care free. I’ve been wearing a Casio Tough Solar Atomic since 2004. This watch does everything I need and nothing else. I love mechanicals but they are all a bit high maintenance.

In the UK they go for between £50 to £80 on eBay and even more but you can currently buy from Amazon prime for £47.92 shipped from the US. When I bought mine it was £45.10 both prices include all shipping and taxes import duty price you see is what you pay

Love my Duro, on a quality stainless bracelet from Long Island Watch. It’s a beast, barely fits my wrist, but it works, it’s my daily/beater watch. After a few years I’ll replace the mineral crystal with a sapphire one. Love the Batman version I got, the blue and black dial looks perfect, and the blue second hand is a nice touch. It’s a simple Miyota 2115 powered watch, but absolutely amazing for the price point. I wish they’d release one in 40-42mm with nothing changed other than the dimensions. Another piece I find rotating through for daily wear is the Casio Edifice EFB with the Stainless dial and white chaptering, it’s like a sporty more affordable PRX. Another decently sized watch but just a touch smaller.

Just ordered one from ebay used including the original rubber strap as well as a solid link stainless bracelet with extra links; for the same price as a new Duro off amazon. Excited to get it delivered and see if it becomes my new main beater.

For people who want this on a bracelet, the one off my Orient Kamasu fits very nicely, if a bit tight. I’ve been wearing my Duro on that for years and absolutely love the look.

I bought one of these this summer to go swimming on holiday, the holiday didn't happen but I only paid £40 in a sale. The first thing I did was put a vintage Bond NATO on it I bought for £6 off fleabay - Gekota if you please. The only niggles are the crap lume and the date is a bit small. It is a big unit but I've got 8 1/2 inch wrists and now I'm used to wearing it I've had to give my G10 to my daughter as it appears like a little girl's watch in size comparison.

I love the Duro. It's a really nice combination of a sharp-looking, accurate watch that's also cheap and durable enough that I'm not afraid to wear it out and about and get it banged up. I actually bought both the blue and the black/gilt colors so I could see them both in person before settling on a color. I wound up choosing the blue and returning the black/gilt, but I'm tempted to order it again and just wear both. Maybe I should if there's a chance of this model being discontinued and replaced by what I'm sure will be a more expensive version.

I've had mine for a few years, I put it on a black rubber Zuludiver deployant strap, not long after I got it, and it's been fantastic ever since,, (shame the vanilla smell isn't quite as strong now !! ) Absolutely fantastic watch imho,,...

Love the watch, love the siz, love the quartz. I have 3 of them, one black, one blue, one pepsi. Love the blue one on a blue nato strap. I was thinking of buying a good seiko but I'm in no hurry now. Seiko makes some good quartz divers too though.

Nice review. I finally found my grail: it's a Casio too, but an Oceanus. I don't think you reviewed any on your channel (at least couldn't find when searching): the xxxxx-S100 model is beautiful and sturdy, and I can finally put my Tudor to a rest.

I own two of these. This first one I bought about two years ago and the new one I bought about three months ago. Somewhere in-between they upgraded a few things. The indices are now applied and not stamped. The bezel rotates a little smother now too. Lastly the brushing is a bit smother but it's very subtle.

Love my Duro, it's a daily and over 2yrs old NOW I'm very hard on watches, have NO scratches on the crystal, and it's in very good shape. The lume is not great, have no issues with the crown, and the second hand hitting the markers is hit or miss(no pun intended). It appears to get better with time, btw. I've spent more on straps then on the watch and Love it... Spends most of its time on a StrapCode 22mm Super-J Louis JUB Watch Band Straight End, 316L Stainless Steel Solid V-Clasp Button Double Lock. And looks amazing.
