All houses in Africa need to be like that. We can be developed without copying the west
@livingfinance
@livingfinance 3 жыл бұрын
Love this comment, Africans need to develop their own sense of development. We can be inspired by the great things that others have done but it needs to make sense for our climate, our taste and our environment. What this woman has accomplished is an eye for refine detail and good taste in style that is world class but still very in tune with the local culture, which is extremely lacking in residential design in West africa, too many people have a copy and paste approach to Housing design. It's refreshing to see, I hope it encourages people to adopt african indigenous elements back into design and architecture.
@chitsaegvjide

@@livingfinance Exactly and we need to start that by changing our educational system. Most schools tend to use the western approach meanwhile we are lacking serious studies/ resources to bring light to our values, morals and environment. What works for someone might not for the other. See that lady’s house? An architectural/construction school strictly based on our resources/culture is an example. Oh well, when I say it ppl think I’m retarded.

@@chitsaegvjide It will come, what you and I and more people who think like we do need to continue to do is not to accept mediocre thinking; I comment on a lot of african KZbin channels, because I love the community but I don't fear criticizing when necessary or praising when deserved. We have to increase our expectations and create the environment for quality methods/services and innovation to flourish, we are way behind so many other groups of people we cannot afford to go into the next century with this outdated thinking. I have grown to realize that the Western World is not more intelligent than anyone else they have learned to aggregate world knowledge and adapt to their local environment and culture. African people need to do the same, learn the good things that other people do but adapt it to your local environment and culture and prioritize your own over others.

Ahh houses should not look this way, everyone has different taste, why should the 54 countries in africa build this way do we all have thesame culture If you like it alot build your own like that
@livingfinance

@TheFlowerOfLove Lol, you really want to go down this rabbit hole, cause I guarantee you, you will not win this argument. Post colonial African countries don't have an infrastructural identity. They are often poor imitation of what we deemed as developed in the West. Now the issue for me isnt copying, because every country imitates the good things they see elsewhere, even Western countries. But many African countries copy without understanding what they are copying and don't properly integrate it within their environment. In addition, long term maintenance of infrastructure is largely non-existant because we don't produce we largely import. Therefore, we don't know how things are made nor how to maintain things long term, so we constantly rebuy. Modern african houses are copies of western homes, they are not reflection of african architecture, Africans did not build with cement

Great video. here is a tip: when you are talking about a specific feature, showcase that as the dialogue takes place. You did it with the windows, but when you menitoned her art, there were no focused shots for us to have an upclose look , same thing with the onsuite bathroom. You're going places, Vanessa!
