Hello Lynn, from an old engineer here in the UK, hope you and your family are keeping well, there's an old saying you can never stop learning, by the time you have learnt it all it is too late anyway, well I have learnt something today and I have to say that looks pretty impressive, a thicker brass will look great, also brass washers look pretty good, love your videos always very entertaining, keep up the good work.

That is a nice pin. I love your pin press. It's been a few years since I've made any pins. I think it's time to get back out, dust off the lathe and get busy. Thanks for sharing!

I've used the Loctite and even the expanding Gorilla glue. Both work great for gluing the brass tubes into the blank. Especially with blanks that have voids or cracks on the inside. I ended up fixing a piece of purple heart that cracked on me.

Hi Lynn, very pretty pen. Those aluminum strips sure do make that one. If you lowered your blade when you make the 45s to leave a little meat on the blank so it doesn't completely separate you would not have to mess with the glueup jig. (edit: Of course in this case the aluminum insert would have to be the exact same thickness as the saw kerf). Just slip the aluminum in and clamp it end to end with a single clamp. You're going to turn the extra meat off the blank anyway.

+Tenspeed TheBikeHanger Hey thanks, that is what I did on my Celtic knot pen but I didn't want to use aluminum that thick on this pen. That again for the tip and for watching.

Nice looking pen and thanks for the tip on the glue I am going to check it out. Did you add a knob to the 45 degree fence on your sled. I think you had a screw holding it at one time Thanks again Lynn
@LynnLaceyLLWW
@LynnLaceyLLWW 7 жыл бұрын
+Dave White Hey Dave, yes I added the knob, all of the inserts are drilled in the same place and there is a 1/4-20 nut epoxied in so I can easily change them out. Good eye and thanks for watching.

Lynn - thought that was really informative. Being very new to pen making, and wood working in general, you taught me alot in this video and looking forward to viewing you others. Only have have two questions; 1). The aluminum you used was that just a soda can or the thicker food can or something and 2). Was there a problem turning or sanding when you got to metal to ensure it doesn't get proud of the wood. Again "nice video".

+Larry Elliott Hey Larry thanks for watching. It was aluminum from a soft drink can. I have never had an issue turning aluminum, with sharp tools your finished surface should be smooth. Thanks again.

Good job. Did you add that round knob on that c-clamp or did you buy it that way?
@LynnLaceyLLWW
@LynnLaceyLLWW 7 жыл бұрын
+Brian Binns Hey Brian, haven't hear from you in a while. If your talking about the knob in the clamp I use for a pen press, yes I added that. It is easier on my wrist and I can make finer adjustments when pressing parts. Thanks for watching, good to hear from you.

Where did you get the aluminum?
@LynnLaceyLLWW
@LynnLaceyLLWW 7 жыл бұрын
Susan Prior I think that was aluminum from a soft drink can. I didn't want anything very thick. Just make sure you get the coatings and printing off either by sanding or using a solvent or both. I hope that answers your question. Thanks for watching
