Lynn -- Thanks for this video. You may have helped me resolve an issue I was having with some segmented blanks I had made. They were coming apart after drilling. I think I may have gotten the epoxy too hot when I drilled the blanks. Your tip of using denatured alcohol (and showing how much time you take to drill) may be the solution I was looking for.
@LynnLaceyLLWW8 жыл бұрын
+David Walser hey thanks foe watching David, yea just make sure the epoxy is cured (don't rush that) and be patient drilling with. Sharp bit and I think you'll reduce your failures. I still have failures from time to time but not as often as I once did. Thanks for the comment.

That's a great looking pen Sir. Sometimes when I use aluminium I get discolouration on the wood, the light wood in particular. How would you prevent that from happening?
@mickmotly40837 жыл бұрын
Perfectly executed Mr.Lacey! If I may may point out something I have run into lately. The brass tubes on pen kits I have been receiving from different sources have been scuffed up as you say , but I have noticed a thin film of , what appears to be lacquer, I have been removing this with a piece of my 100 grit sand paper and scuffing them myself. I want to make doubly sure I have a proper bond. I dont know if you have run into this or not but I would appreciate a reply from you on whether the lazerline kits have this very very thin coating on the brass tubes.. Excellent video as always Sir, and thank you for sharing the "tricks of the trade" with all of us out here in "tube land". PS I now know why Bob collaborated with you on that one video!
@LynnLaceyLLWW7 жыл бұрын
Hey Mick, I hadn't paid any notice to a thin film as you say but I always scuff up pen tubes and clean with denatured alcohol and have never had an issue. Thanks for watching.
@mickmotly40837 жыл бұрын
Yes Sir I understand the only reason I said anything about that was because in the video you mentioned that this pen tube came scuffed already and you didnt show you scuffing it up ,,,so just thought I would mention that .. thanks so much for the reply and kind words!

Hey Mike - Thanks for watching and yes I think I bought an aluminum sheet at Hobby Town. I have also used aluminum soft drink cans. But when I do I take the time to strip all the coatings from both sides. Thanks again.

Hey Richard - yes I have but both are noisy and this works for me. Thanks for the thought and for watching.

Since I have many common size bits, I just change bits out when they get hot. For me it is easier.
