I’m thinking if you are aiming the flash to the side or behind you, the diffuser may not be needed as the bounce off the wall or ceiling will provide the diffusion by spreading the light. And if the diffuser is removed from the cheaper flash I suspect you’ll get more power.

@TaylorBrownPhotoVideo Жыл бұрын
Hey! If it's working when you push the test button (wirelessly) but not when you take a photo, it might be your in-camera flash settings are not enabled. So make sure to check that or it could also be that your hotshoe (where the transmitter connects ontop of your camera) needs to be cleaned. You can do that with anything rubber like a pencil eraser in case it has some build up on it messing with the connection.

@TaylorBrownPhotoVideo7 ай бұрын
Usually off axis back at the wall by the doorway works well (whichever wall is closest to the direction of the natural light coming in usually looks most natural). So for that literally stand behind your camera and reach your arm in as far as you can and point the flash back left or right. Just watch out for hot spots where you can tell there’s a flash and adjust accordingly (or get a few options to work with in post)

Hi! thank you for your great videos. I am watching all of them haha. I am very new to the flash scene, so here's my unexpert question: can you mount a softbox to the TT520II? If so, which one would you recommend? I want to buy a flash that I can use both for interiors and product/artwork photography. Although I have been working as a photographer for the past 2 years, this would be y first light setup purchase, therefore any recommendation is very much appreciated. Thank you!!🙏
@TaylorBrownPhotoVideo2 жыл бұрын
Hello! Sorry I missed this until now. I personally like this brand - "Glow" and have used them for pretty much everything in my career so I would highly recommend! This one would be a good starter softbox since it's smaller and will still be a useful size to have long-term if you upgrade to using more flashes and more diffusers. ( amzn.to/3GPRGP8 ) - You'd just need to get this speedlight adapter to clamp in your size of flash to the opening ( amzn.to/3WWSib3 ). On another note, here's the one I started with that's still in great shape - ( amzn.to/3WWSib3 ) - The results are pretty much the same but the materials are a little bit more durable/nicer quality but Westcott's bigger setups are a little over priced IMO. Not sure what you're wanting to do specifically so here's one more reccomendation - a parabolic umbrella. (amzn.to/3XfoXZk) - for interiors you could bounce your flash off of it for accurate colors (on a stand) and also use it for the other types of photography for a soft spread of light. Your call! Lots of options :)

Okay so i have a question. Can you use a flash when shooting Hdr? if yes then it has to be continuous lighting?
@TaylorBrownPhotoVideo2 жыл бұрын
Hey! I haven't tried that but I think you'd have to have a flash + camera with really high sync speeds for that to be possible so I'd think it wouldn't work for the darker shots. Likely though, if you're using flash you won't really need/want to use HDR since adding the flash reduces the need for more dynamic range which is what HDR processing does (since with flash you're increasing the interior brightness to much closer to the exterior brightness). I'll have to try it some time though! Let me know if that helps :) - TB

@@TaylorBrownPhotoVideo i appreciate the response man, im trying to get into this space and there’s so much to learn. Im just trying to figure out camera setting for my canon rebel T5i and im not really sure where to start. Everyone seems to be giving different answers.
@TaylorBrownPhotoVideo2 жыл бұрын
@@Ishizaki3k For sure! It's a lot. For HDR my go-to is ISO 100, F8, and variable shutter speed with neutral color profile. (3 brackets at -3, 0, +3 for that camera should be good) White balance on auto should be fine since you can adjust in the edit. (RAW Photos) For using flash my go-to's are ISO 400, F6.3, variable shutter speed to set ambient exposure, and flash varies too depending on what's needed. For all of them I use the 2 second timer setting to make sure the camera is most still when taking the photos. Let me know if that works!
@Ishizaki3k2 жыл бұрын
@@TaylorBrownPhotoVideo you’re a great guy Taylor! Appreciate the feedback that was very helpful. One thing with my camera is for some reason it only lets me set my bracketing to -2 , 0 , +2. It shows the 3s on there but it won’t let me go to that. I’ll try to figure that out. Thanks again, I’ll keep watching your videos to learn more
@TaylorBrownPhotoVideo2 жыл бұрын
@@Ishizaki3k Interesting! Maybe you have to do 5 brackets to do 3?? I would just try both and see how the results look and go from there. Some cameras have more dynamic range and only need 3 shots, and some might do better using extra (5)

Hey man. Just started my own business to begin shooting real estate photography as well as video and some drone footage.. (Reel Rich Productions). I've been in law enforcement for 20 years now and looking for something to do when I bail. I've been researching flashes now for about a month. I've looked a both the cheap and expensive ones but still up in the air. Any help would be great. Thanks for putting out the content..it helps.

is this okay for event photography?
@TaylorBrownPhotoVideo2 жыл бұрын
If you're doing events in smaller spaces, and have a lens with a wider aperture (2.0 or so) - probably will be ok to add some fill flash. BUT I'd think it wouldn't be great for big rooms or if you need to do fast bursts of photos (the cheaper flash) since the recycle time is slower. That's part of why I got my V1 flash for though - works great for events!

@TaylorBrownPhotoVideo2 жыл бұрын
@@lpproducoesaudiovisual8888 Im not totally sure. I'd check in your menu and see if there is anything about flash and if so, it is probably ok. I think most cameras are set up to be able to use flash except some that have them built in already

I just purchased a Canon M50 and hope to get into RE photography once I figure out what I am doing. I was always curious on the difference between the really expensive gear vs the budget friendly for us newbies. After your video I guess that clears that question up. Thanks, jfranks73

Nice!! M50 is a great camera. I had a cropped sensor camera for a long time with RE Photography and it was great as long as you have a wide enough lens! (I had an 11-16).
