In actuality, Burr was a bad man. He wrote in a letter that he felt no regret for killing Hamilton. And, he tried to sell out the United States to a foreign country. He was a cold-blooded murderer and traitor. In the musical, however, one can not help but sympathize for him.

I read somewhere that the reason Hamilton died was because burr and Hamilton knew each other too well. Burr saw Hamilton as someone who would act quickly, impulsively and "wouldn't throw away his shot". Whereas Hamilton saw Burr as someone who was calm, standing at the sides to see what would happen the taking action and "waiting for it". So the reason Hamilton died was because Burr thought Hamilton would fire and Hamilton thought Burr wouldn't fire.

There's a lot of different sources though. According to an article Hamilton actually cheated with his weapon, but he missed and burr ended up hitting. Another source, however, claimed that Hamilton missed on purpose, hitting the tree behind Burr. If you google it you'll find many different scenarios, and I guess it's really hard to determine what's true in the end :p

Did you recognize, that after Burr shot him, there's a drum in the background sounding like a disturbed heartbeat, as if the bullet entered between his ribs. And when Burr sings that Eliza and Angelica were both at his side when he died, the drum is replaced by a clock bell and then there is silence. As if Hamilton's heart stopped beating. When Phillip dies in Stay Alive Reprise, it's exactly the same.

I know everyone says his daughter was in her twenties, but he didn't want to make her an orphan because even as an adult, back then orphans were not seen as intellegent and were often judged. Not only that, Burr knows what it's like to have no family. If Hamilton died his children wouldn't have been orphaned. They still would've have Eliza. That's what I think, anyway.

"This is a man with a marksmen ability" So it occurred to me that this isn't exactly common knowledge, so I'll share it here. This is around the late 1700/early 1800. Back then, a guns recoil was _awful_ and would kick a person back by several feet. ((Not a gun expert, don't quote me on this)) So, back then, a marksman would be a person who could hold a rifle and shoot it, and have the shot be accurate from a few hundred yards away. Essentially, he's a sniper. Now, Hamilton being a marksman meant that during the revolution, he wouldn't be on the front line, so to speak. He'd be hidden in the tree's and shoot from there, trying to kill off as many of the redcoats as possible. -"We almost died in a trench while you were getting high with the french!"- Now, they're only ten paces away from each other, and Hamilton has _every_ opportunity to shoot Burr and instantly kill him, but he doesn't. He honored the words that he said to his son.

Can someone please explain what happened and why Alex pointed his gun upwards? Sorry, I dont really understand that part :(
@fynnleyreader35118 жыл бұрын
Audhora Rahman "We were near the same spot his(my) son died-" Alex told Phillip to not shoot George, and to point his gun upwards. However, George cheated and shot Phillip at seven. Now, assuming that Phillip _didn't_ tell his father what happened, Alexander took the blame thinking that his son would be alive if he hadn't told him to shoot upwards. Now, however, he assumes that Burr won't actually shoot him, but whether he does or not doesn't really matter - Hamilton is going to honor the words he told his son when he died.

"History obliterates every picture it paints. It paints me and all my mistakes. When Alexander aimed at the sky, he may have been the first to die, but I'm the one who paid for it." I love how Lin-Manuel and Leslie showed both sides to the villain and the hero. The hero cheated on his wife and was sometimes an arrogant, pompous ass. The villain was a loving husband, father and believer in equality in education (look it up). If you read what happened to Aaron Burr after the duel with Hamilton, you'd be hard-pressed not to shed a sympathetic tear for him.

Something I think about too much: In 'The World Was Wide Enough' when Hamilton is having an internal monologue (a reprise of a reprise of his original lines from 'My Shot') his voice begins to crack and get louder as he says "Rise up". _Hamilton was having a panic attack at suffering the same fate as his son, the same spot his son died, at the hands of his first friend._ And after he cries out Eliza's name he _calms down._ And if you recall, Eliza says in 'Non-Stop' "If I could grant you peace of mind, that would be enough." And in the end, it _was_ enough. Alexander found peace in just the mere thought of his wife's name, Damn you Lin-Manuel and your impeccable writing

When I learned about Alexander Hamilton in school all I knew was that he made a debt plan that was later changed. Also that he died in a useless duel but he was a useless founding father so it didn't matter. My tea her even made fun at him for aiming at the sky. He told us that he was such idiot he aimed for the sky and died. Then I listened to this musical and it just makes me so upset about how after all he's done he was portrayed as idiot who didn't know how to use a gun. That's why I'm glad Lin made this and brought to our attention that a lot of our the history we are taught is not in the least bit accurate. It kinda opened my eyes to our education system and how people go down in history. Okie rant over please enjoy the song :)

Ashstar Of Riverclan why is he not performing anymore?
@ashstarofriverclan46317 жыл бұрын
Like quite a few of the original cast they performed this so many times that they said that they eventually needed a break. However in one of his interviews Lin-Manuel Miranda did say that he will be returning to the role of Hamilton, as well as saying in a post (I believe) that somewhere in the future they will release a DVD with it recorded so that's something to look forward too. Still, I wish I could see Leslie Odam Jr and the rest live.

Its been filmed! just like they did with some other big broadway hits they filmed one of the performances and in the near future im sure they will be releasing said film. Lin said so himself.

Despite people preferring the horrified, shattered Burr, he was actually not affected at all from Hamilton's death. He went and had breakfast nonchalantly right after, not giving a damn that tons hated him. He was so content with the fact that the man who tried to ruin his legacy was on the other side of the Hudson dead. And then he was wondering "Why am I being sent to court?"

I cried at the part where Burr is saying "This man will not make an orphan of my daughter." Because his voice cracks, he's all she has left, her mom is dead, and I think he thought about Theodosia's death and was very emotional. He was scared. And now everyone says he's the bad guy. My poor baby lol. I love Hamilton don't get me wrong but I feel like at most points he was truly asking for it...
@megasauruss8 жыл бұрын
Burr: I won't let this man make an orphan of my daughter who is happily married and over the age of twenty, so I'll kill Alex who will be leaving his wife with six kids and one of them disabled.
@kaleyn39338 жыл бұрын
Okay, true, true. It was a dick thing to do. But he was probably also thinking that Alex's wife is alive so his kids would still have a mother to look up to, take their grandkids to, while his daughter wouldn't have him anymore. I just think that he made a promise to himself to not die that way because his wife died and he basically swore to be there for Theodosia. He also regretted shooting when Alex had his gun in the air. He was full of guilt, regret, and maybe even some sorrow and sadness over the fact that Alex isn't in his life anymore. But that's just me. I know that by this time in history, Theodosia was grown and married, and I know that Alex had more than one child and that one of those children were disabled. This song just makes me feel a lot of emotions. Sorry.
@megasauruss8 жыл бұрын
Merlin No need to apologise at the end there haha It is a very emotional song, I cried out my heart and soul when I heard it, even though I knew how Hamilton died ;-;

@annamannix96957 жыл бұрын
Wow I was definitely agreeing with the other person before I saw your comment. I love it when people offer me a different perspective. I think that either man dying would have had a serious effect on their family but in vastly different ways. For Hamilton, his family would take a serious blow and struggle without him, especially Eliza. On the other hand, Theodosia is the only one in Burr's family so there are less people who would be mourning. Although less people would mourn for Burr, Theodosia would have no one to grieve with as she is on her own as a young lady in society, although she is independent and living away from her father

Okay, this will take a while, but bear with me: Listen to "My Shot." Specifically, the part at 3:10 where the chorus sings "Woah, woah, woah-oh-oh." Now, listen to the high-pitched, echoing notes as Burr speaks in this song, starting at 0:09 Do you hear that? "Everybody sing: Woah, woah, woah-oh-oh..."

Moiselle Burr was actually a good shot. Either historical inaccuracy or it shows that Burr is an unreliable narrator. He's scared and panicking and thinks he's going to die, so he makes false memories that he's a well known terrible shot and Hamilton is a man with a sharpshooters aim. Also since Burr sees Hamilton as someone as impulsive who is non stop he would have thought Hamilton would shoot.

Honestly the reason I cry every time I hear this damn song it isn't because Hamilton dies because I knew that but it's because of the desperation in Hamilton's voice that I start to cry. When he starts singing a few lines from other songs it just becomes too much tbh.
