I'm Sri Lankan. In our country, there are lots of avocado trees, specially in the hill country. A lot of varieties exist. The best grow in Kandy and the surrounding areas. I'm from Peradeniya. The avocado trees we had in our land gave us the most delicious fruits and after I moved to Polgahawela, a place close to Kurunegala in the NW province, hardly have I eaten avocados as fruity as those I ate when I lived there. I suspect that any any other country in the world has better avocados. Unfortunately, our promotion of such fruits abroad and export thereof to country in Europe is very poor. So only few knows that Sri Kankan avocado are exceptional. Try to import them from here. I love your conversation. Though this is an old episode, I still do enjoy listening to this. Bye!!!!

Thanks for that podcast, 2 years later I finally get the difference between "who" and "whom" which none of the brits I know have ever been able to explain to me! Binge listening to your podcast keeps me in touch with English now that I'm back to France (being an anglophile can be really frustrative in that case and I know as much about English than about French grammar : barely anything)

'Who cares about English Usage' by Prof David Crystal is the first of his works I happened to accidentally get hold of in a second hand bookshop about 20 years ago. It's a small book on various usage notes that are useful to us second language users. Recently a friend of mine who was in the UK working there brought another two books of Crystal for me. Words, Words,Words is an amazing one where he has written short essays on various vocabulary items. The other book is How Language Works. This one, I'm still reading. Finished four or five chapters. I like that one too. Next I'm going to get down 'Let's Talk.' Hope this is going to be an exciting book. I'm surprised to hear that one of the two who joined the conversation hasn't heard about this author who has even been recognised by the Queen for his outstanding contribution to the English language. One other place he has made a key contribution is the monumental A Comprehensive Grammar of the English Language by a group of four linguists including Prof Randolf Quirk. David Crystal has written the Index of that very large book on English grammar. I'm lucky enough to associate the books written by renowned authors such as Crystal and Quirk.

In these days the Arab use the Arabic wrongly, so we have 3 kinds of Arabic:- 1. origin Arabic: it is the old version of language and the holy Quran accent. 2. Modern Arabic: it is the present formal Arabic accent and they use it at news and podcasts. 3. dialects.

Maybe I missed something, but weren’t they saying he can speak three languages (English, French, and Spanish) at a high level? Did he grow up speaking all three as a native or did he learn a couple later on?
