@ I love my briefcase from them, it’s been incredibly solid. I was considering buying some wool or canvas outerwear from them but if the quality has legitimately declined then I’d like to look elsewhere
@Benjels4805 күн бұрын
@@garthmalgar gotcha. I think there may not be a store like Filson nowadays that does all types of products well, but you may need to look around for certain categories of products. For canvas wear and bags, I love Bradley Mountain (biased here because I worked for them for a couple years) but their jackets and bags are pretty bombproof. Everything is made in the USA with all USA materials (with a few exceptions with cloth coming from Italy or Japan), something that Filson can’t really claim since they’re made in the USA products are now “sewn in the USA, from imported material.” Another great brand I’ve seen with unique canvas stuff is Sidnaw Company. Using a lot of dead stock wool to line their waxed canvas jackets and vests. It’s pretty cool
@ivanheffner25878 күн бұрын
IDK if it’s because I’ve hit that age where everything seems ridiculously expensive (because corporate greed says the market can bear the higher prices) but $450 seems too much for those boots. I wouldn’t expect to pay more than about $250 for something like that, even with the names Birkenstock and Filson attached to it. Wool and leather are both great materials, but that’s kind of crazy.
@HarrisonEngel-wr5uy6 күн бұрын
Just poking around old filson and boot maker catalogs, adjusting for inflation prices haven’t changed much. They haven’t in the sense that “high quality” boots always seem to be between $350 and $700 adjusted for inflation. They maybe have in the sense that the old boots were higher quality at those price points. This could just be idealistic tho, we have a lot better manufacturing and leather working technologies today that could mean our $350+ boots are better than in 1900. Anyways, filson stuff is priced for the sales these days. These boots will sell at 40% off some point this year and that will be a pretty fair price imo.

Filson still has some very good items in the mix (also many bad ones) but they are way overpriced. Lately they've been running a lot of "sales" that bring pricing into the right range. I have these. Theyre surprisingly supportive given the upper is loose wool. The foot of the boot fits so right it just sticks. They're lightweight and easy to slip on so the convenience is definitely there although deciding whether you're going to tuck your pants into the boot or wear them over is unique to each pant. Imo it regulates temperature quite well while still being warm enough. For urban walking its great but i do wish the sole was a bit thicker. The tread is not good for smooth wet conditions. Can be slippery on wet metals on an incline. Looks wise, i think it looks good enough to wear on most casual occasions. It really simplifies my shoe decision because i wear them 80% of the time. The price is high and probably overpriced but i guess time will be the main deciding factor on that. I've been wearing them almost 2 months at the time of this comment.

I’d love to see you cut these. I will say though…even though you rated the Birks Stalon boots very poorly (and rightfully so given the materials), I got them on sale for €119 about two years ago ago and they’re incredibly comfy and they’ve held up very well. Two winters on, the sole is kinda worn out and as resoling is not an option, I bought a pair of Red Wing Chelsea boots to replace them. The Red Wings are clearly higher quality, but I wish they’d follow a more natural (splaying) foot shape like the Birkenstocks do.

Besides what functionality a boot like this might have.... And in regards to expensive Birkenstocks; Sometimes people just wanna wear shit others don't have, clothing items with a high barrier of entry is one way to ensure that gatekeepy-ness for an item of clothing, or rather, fashion item. If vans made a $500 shoe not that many would buy it, but the ones who do will consider it a fashion item. Also I think Filson is famous for like tinned duck canvas items that are very expensive... but quite nice. I've wanted a coat of theirs before.

I own Nicks boots, White boots, Alden, and Birkenstock. Out of all the shoes, Nicks are the worst! The last pair I bought, I had to send back twice, and the last time was because of nails poking through the footbed. If anybody's quality is no good, it is Nicks, not birkenstock, i've never had an issue with their shoes. And I own the same boots you just reviewed, and they are excellent.Four hundred dollars isn't much money to me, though. I think your method of cutting boots in half to see how good they are is very flawed. Just because something seems to be made high quality doesn't mean it's going to be comfortable on your feet. The Nicks boots I own are the most uncomfortable boots I have ever owned, and i've worn them for long periods of time. By the way, your background music is lame and you need to stop wearing skinny jeans.They are out of style.😂
