I remember watching your videos religiously when I was in 8th grade now I am a junior in University and I am still loving your videos my passion for learning Spanish has never waivered and I don't think it ever will. I remember a huge hiatus between your videos and I think that's how I forgot about your channel but I'm happy your two are back!

In Mexico they brought the food out to the table and placed the tortillas (flat bread version) on the table in a warmer. I asked in Spanish, "are they flour" but instead of "harina" I said, "¿Son de araña?" which means, "are they made of spiders?" The lady laughed immediately. What's more, "araña" can be slang for something sexual.

Thank you Cynthia and Gordon. For some reason I have not found a good definition for meter for several years! I hear it, I read it, but hadn't been able to understand it in context. And the dictionary gives me many, many definitions that I don't know which one is intended. In fact the dictionary actually led me to believe it was closer to the word "get". So that is wrong. For once I understand it!

I was about to post the following, but I decided to look at the comments first and saw yours. So true! “The way y’all say “invalid” makes the word feel much more demeaning than the American pronunciation 😂 I’ve heard it most often pronounced [in-vuh-lid] taking your mind further from focusing on the word VALID. It sounds more like y’all are saying they have no value when you emphasize VALID in inVALID.”

All the Latin American dialects have tú (or in some vos). It's just that they are more formal and tend to use Usted more often, especially because there's no vosotros (Sadly!!).

When you learn phrases, aren't you deciding that meaning is more important than grammar to some extent? So it's an exit to more fluent language but leaving behind the innocence of your beginnings just as a child becoming adolescent.

Its interesting that a great deal of these examples of bad Spanish creating Faux Pas in UK English and vice versa would not necessarily trigger the same response in American English. Perhaps American English has not existed long enough to have such a wealth of sexual euphemisms. It reminds me of the whole Mexican "Juevos" issue. Language is such a sticky liquid of plastic, shifting about from place to place. Like nailing jelly to a tree. lol. Good video guys.
