Been wondering about my hake “shedding” and thought maybe I bought a cheap set, so thank you for sharing about that. I also now see the real advantage of the hake in how it can pick up and distribute multiple colors. Cool! Thank you!

Thank you for the video showing how to use a new Hake brush. It answered a lot of my questions since I wasn't able to get the same effects as you did with your old brush. Thank you!!

Hi Andrew! I've been painting since two months and just got my hands on the Silver Atelier Hake (because they were the most well priced and Ron Ranson hake wasn't available in India). I have sparingly used it, but here are some difficulties I have : 1) I use pans, getting paint out is hard. 2) My hake ( little experience) seems to be bushy in the middle and doesn't come to chiseled edges. 3) their smallest size is 30mm. It feels big. Coming from size 6,12 rounds, I paint on A4. Should I keep this or try getting a smaller size? Any experience with this hake and whether it's sufficient for getting started? It's reviewed really well for washes and general hake stuff.

Im not familiar with the brand, but it may help to use tube paint if you can find them. Maybe try remove the paint from the pans? Um sure the size of the hake is ok. Some people will wet a hake, try to shape it to a point and then trim it with either scissors or other items in an attempt to shape it. I think there are some videos on that. Goodluck and have fun!

Can this brush be used with acrylics? Thank you
@AndrewBroussardWatercolors
@AndrewBroussardWatercolors 2 жыл бұрын
Great question! I wouldn't risk it, I've seen on Chinese Art Supply websites not to use the natural hair brushes with Acrylics. But, there is a youtube video by a fella named Jerry Yarnell, the caption says a hake can be used with acrylics.. Hm. I can try and sacrifice a cheap hake to acrylics as an experiment if you would like? (I'm not proficient in acrylics though)

@@AndrewBroussardWatercolors thank you. I’ve been following Yarnell’s videos and decided to search for a hake brush. His is very expensive. Thank you for your quick response. I’d hate to have you ruin a brush. Thank you anyway. 💐happy painting.

Andrew - do you know of a synthetic hake anywhere? I would rather not use animal products. the nearest I have found so far has been an Escoda synthetic filbert though the result is not quite the same - not as pre-worn in stroke.

Unfortunately I haven't come across any. Henry Li at Blue Heron Arts has mentioned some synthetic brushes and stocks some (Chinese cloud mop and orchid?) but I believe they don't have the same brush qualities as their animal hair counterparts. I think comparable synthetics occur for fine line brushes and oil painting brushes so far.
