Thank you. When I was learning I envisioned how it would help if it was explained the way I understood it.

Thanks so much, Joe. I've been working hard to get my hake brush to do what I want. It's not easy, so I've really looked for good tutorials on the subject. Your videos on hake brush skills are the best. I love how you focus on one specific skill and then illustrate it over and over.

Thanks Joe, I was wondering how I could get my hake to shape up. I was thinking of sanding it into shape, but your suggestions worked like a charm. You seem like you might be a Jersey Boy. I am. I'm coming back to watercolor medium after 20 years of digital painting. I find it a bit intimidating, especially when I look at my old watercolors. The thing about the digital painting (Rebbele 7) is that you can back up and redo...no such thing with actual media. That plus, I'm in my early 80's...but I'm "do'n good" as we used to say in Jersey.

Good to see you are still at it. I always look for you as I'm enjoying so many other watercolor painters on KZbin. The Hake is an intimidating brush to use. The way you talk to viewers as you work is very motivating. You're doing a great job. Larry/Houston

You are an excellent teacher. I have been using the Ron Ranson brushes but have been struggling with them. This video was very informative. What kind of WC paper do you normally use?

Thank you. I vary using arches, fabriano, strathmore, and now I have been using Paul rubens

Thank you so much for all your information. It has helped this 50 years of watercolor painting I have done. I was really watching you do the rocks this time. every time I have done rocks the paint is pretty wet. I noticed you did it with dry paint, and btw you are really good at the rocks. What do you think is the best for doing them, in terms of wet and dry, damp paint.
@joemenzaart3 жыл бұрын
Glad it helped! The best way is when the paint is about half dry, dark and rich. Also the paper makes a big difference. Paper with more grain or tooth is better.

Hi Joe! This very doubt got me to the video. I managed to get my hands on Silver Atelier Hake and was wondering whether it was a bad brush because it would look bushy. Also their smallest brush is 30mm. Is that a good enough substitute for 1"? I paint on A4 and my first experience? This is one tall / big brush. :))
@joemenzaart2 жыл бұрын
I’m sure you can make it work but I prefer the RR hake

@@joemenzaart thanks! Hard to source that here in India. These were the most well reviewed ones on CheapJoes/ blicks I could get. (The Silver one) for a decent price.

@donnaweintraub8769 Жыл бұрын
What do you do to your card to get those size shapes for rocks ??
@joemenzaart Жыл бұрын
Hi Donna. I don’t really do anything. If it’s a full sized card I cut them in half. If the plastic isn’t smooth I might uv it against some paper or something to smooth it out.
@jillrobbins44884 жыл бұрын
I couldn’t see what you were using to create the textures.

My apologies. Watch some other videos and I show more of that. My goal here was to show more of the brush.
