470 HP APR "MaxR" MK6 Golf R - (Track) One Take

This is the fastest Volkswagen I have ever driven, period. It makes 470 HP from its 2.0L Turbo engine on pump gas, has huge brakes, full suspension, sticky BF Goodrich tires, a roll cage, and is enormous amounts of fun. The MK6 Golf R was not offered with a DSG transmission in the US, and this one has a beefed up unit swapped in with a programmable haldex differential and all kinds of crazy goodies.

Sam Stoner Wasn't an issue. We just didn't want to starve the fuel basked on a long, high G banked turn if the tank was low.

I've driven a golf gti and they are quite boring. Fwd is meh. I would kill to have one for a daily driver because they are well built, quiet, practical etc. However for anything besides that, they are just too boring.

I agree with what you said completely, and I stand by my statement that a Golf GTI is one of if not the best daily drivers out there. If I'm not mistaken, isn't that in agreement with what you said? And in regards to 99.99% of driving being boring, I totally agree. But street able power and fun is imo part of the daily driver package. It's fun to push the gas pedal and get a positive and exhilarating response from the car, is it not? With that being said, the GTI didn't make me grin like other "sports" cars that I own do, even when being used as daily drivers. That's why my experience with the GTI (which I will admit is lacking) has made me think that the car is a bit boring. Also, based on your logic of comparing cars based off how well they are on the daily commute, we should all be driving Econoboxes. Surely this can't be what you actually meant to say.

rcowner153 I think it differs' a little depending on your likes and dislikes. VW and most other manufacturer's offer a great variety, but it's dependent on personal taste. I love driving slow cars fast, but a lot of people love driving powerful cars slow, then suprise people when it books on the freeway, autobahn, M5, or whatever other system of road I'm not familiar with. Also drive train layout has a lot to do with it too. I prefer RWD while some may prefer AWD or like the Golf, FWD. All have upsides and downsides. I would love to see a VW with RWD and see how they would fare with JDM's and American's lineup of affordable sports cars in the 25-30 thousand US dollar range!

It was fun watching some Golfs at the half-mile shootout in Ocala, FL. 160+ mph all day long, consistent, from a roll in a Golf. 800hp z06es, Turbo S's, and GTRs were all humiliated by a pair of GOLFS.

Awesome car, great video. Local tuning shop just built a 430hp mkv Golf with AWD. As for the light at the end it doesn't surprise me when an engines performance is being pushed and still in development. I'm sure this is testing for them as well not just them giving up their car.

APR is just down Highway 280 from me. Great to see the Alabama plate there in the back! They do magic with VWs and Audis (and more, I'm sure)! Very proud of them! 8:15 until you got a CEL. I think that's the single most impressive part of this video. Less than ten minutes before repairs are required, which is the same as your average Volkswagen. Amazing that you can get this kind of performance without affecting the expected longevity of the car. Truly says something about this platform.

Matt something you might want to try when you have to drive with your windows down, is get your own helmet set up with a Sena bluetooth set and get a backpack for you interior gopro so it can record audio off of the sena headset and run a good windscreen/deadcat on the mic (like a rehead)

DSG's are actually fantastic, and have quick shift times, especially a modded box like this one has. I'd never buy one, but I definitely see the appeal in them lol And yeah, the sounds are "dank" to say the least ;v

I have been a die hard manual supporter my whole life, but when I test drove the mk6 gti I purchased I was blown away by how smooth and fast the gear changes were with the DSG, and now with a full cobb exhaust it snarls and has the famous "dsg fart" on almost every shift. Very satisfied with vw's engineering

You should set up a camera that shows the gauges and put that video in lower right corner. Would love to see the acceleration rate as you run the course. Hard to imagine hitting 130 that quick in my Mk6.

Clearly from what you're stating about the speeds you're going quite quick, but I've noticed the one take videos all seem look controlled and slow even if you're pushing it. Side effect of the go pro or simply the high camera angle? I thought you were just always taking it easy before because you were driving other people's cars on public roads, but even the track bits like these still have a slow feel to them even when you're on it.

60FPS on 130 degree wide angle, combined with a POV about 16" above driver eyes will drastically slow down the perception of speed.

Had it shipped to California and already picking up parts to mod it. Still trying to figure out if there's any shops on the west coast that would do a DSG conversion on it though. Hard to find...
