😀 A BIT ABOUT US:
We’re Marianne & Chris, a happily married couple from the UK. Marianne is a living kidney donor to her best friend, and realising that life was for living and never really knowing what’s round the corner - we decided to fulfil our dream of travelling full time.
So in March 2018 after the kids had left home, we sold our belongings, rented our house and moved into our campervan called Trudy. We set off to see the world and after vanlifing around Ireland and Europe, we grabbed our backpacks and spent 5 months exploring Central America.
Feeling like we needed a challenge, we planned the ultimate van life adventure! In Jan 2020 set off to drive around the World from UK to UK. But after arriving in Turkey, covid caught up with us and closed the borders, so we had a wonderful 18 months exploring this special country. Realising we were not going to be able to head further East, we decided to do a handbrake turn and go the other way and shipped our van to the USA.
We hope you enjoy coming with us, and we’ll continue to share our real adventures and hope you feel inspire to step out of your comfort zone and try something new.

What you may not know about is that Texas has its own smaller Grand Canyon just south of Amarillo. Palo Duro Canyon. In no way am I saying it is equivalent to the GC

Route 66 is an absolute must if you like travel and road trips. We did it in 2019, the whole thing. When we got to Amarillo it rained so much we couldn`t get to the cars at Cadillac Ranch for huge puddles so we wrote our names on the dirt 😁. Oh, yeh you really missed out on the pie at Midpoint 😉

So nice you saw some of the Route 66 places there in TX. Nice you experienced Cadillac Ranch. Texans by and large are hospitable folks. We lived in Texas during some of my graduate school university days decades ago. We sometimes drive parts of the Arizona Route 66 and some of it is full of quite scenic desert vistas (Seligman to Kingman for example). Thanks for sharing more of Amarillo than I had previously seen in our one day there.

My husband and I just recently made our first trip to Route 66, after living in Texas for 17 years. We had a blast, especially trying to paint our names at The Cadillac Ranch, in the rain. The Midpoint Cafe was also closed when we got there. It's run by just two ladies who don't have anyone else to help them. So, when they have something come up, like taking the kids to the doctor, they need to close up for some time. One of them saw us waiting outside and was nice enough to run over for a few minutes so we could see the inside, even though she had to get her kids to an appointment.

That was fun. In 2002 we drove from Windsor, Ontario to Missouri and then travelled the length of Route 66 through Missouri. We stopped at a snake museum and my cousin who lives quite away from the US border in Ontario says the word "eh" in every sentence haha boy they had a good time teasing her about it and the Canadian stereotype. I never noticed how much she used it until then. I live minutes from the US border and never use the word eh in my sentences haha I am sure they will all love your accent.

We have never driven one mile of the iconic Rte 66, but we took a photo at the sign announcing the start point in Chicago and the end point at the Santa Monica Pier. A number of years ago a colleague retired and drove the whole thing. Hundreds of detours.

So glad y'all discovered tater tots! 😋🤤 If a menu has them, I almost always choose them over chips. Such a lovely gesture they picked up your tab. ❤️❤️ Route 66 fills me with a warm, comfortable melancholy, if that makes any sense. Growing up, my Dad instilled in me the importance of getting off the motorways and seeing what is down the tight and twisty roads. For only a little extra time spent, one can have a sense of adventure and feel like the world isn't so crowded and rushed. So thoroughly chuffed you two got to experience a bit of the Mother Road. ❤️❤️😎👍xx

I'm from Newcastle, England and I done route 66 in July. Brilliant experience. Amarillo was one of my stopover places. I visited the historic Route 66 6th street on this video and dined out there. I also went inside of the Big Texas Steak Ranch at night although I was too late to dine there. Another major attraction in which I done was the Palo Duro Canyon which is America's 2nd largest Canyon after the Grand Canyon and is a 30 minute drive south of Amarillo. I also visited the Cadillac Ranch, dined in the mid point cafe and had a wander through the ruins of Glenrio. Good video and it's nostalgic.

I am glad you visited rt 66 and Chris when you stepped in to those derelict building and showed inside, that made my day believe it or not. I’ve never really understood the Route 66 thing. It was promoted as the quickest route to the southwest when it opened. It was probably Chuck Berry who made it famous, but really, the only thing that makes the road 'special' is that it’s a monument to itself. Take away the tourist attractions celebrating that they are on 66. And there’s nothing there. It’s a tourist attraction that brings tourists, because it’s a tourist attraction. As for its historical significance, its thirty years older than the M1.
@TREADtheglobe
@TREADtheglobe Жыл бұрын
The M1 is a soulless road with nothing but expensive fuel / food stops to facilitate people in a hurry !! This road has lots of small family fun businesses selling homemade and locally grown produce to passing trade who used to drive for hours to cross this enormous continent - whether it is families visiting loved ones or companies hauling their wears which has now been replaced by the I40 .. They are definitely not the same - LOL Marianne 👍
@adrianadrian255
@adrianadrian255 Жыл бұрын
No, definitely very different, but the growth of 66 isn’t exactly organic. It’s been developed to be a tourist attraction. And the reason so many 66 based businesses are situated in abandoned buildings, is because as soon as a road was available, most people left.
