It's worth the price to the right person. To start with, great video. You make a lot of really good points and bring up things that I had not thought of. Now, to be a bit pedantic. I agree that these are not AR goggles, but I do believe this is the very definition of pass through. Pass through refers to the outside world being passed through to your eyes through the cameras. That definition may be a little different in regards to vr, but as an fpv pilot, our goggles that, in the past, have had pass through, were indeed just cameras on the outside passing the outside world image through the goggles to your eyes. Different in that you are not just looking through a clear lens with an image being projected over top. Again, I could be mistaken about the vernacular in regards to VR tech, but that was always my understanding.
@DavidManningvlog10 ай бұрын
I think to dive super deep on it, there's pass through and then there's pass through feed, the later being the video feed bit. And I think to one day get us to a point where we could comfortably use AR in real life, we need true pass through lenses that can overlay information on the lens that aligns to where things are in real world. That's the dream🙌

My only concern with this is that this compeltes Apple's "walled garden" too well. Its already a solo experience for iPhone users only, I'm just imagining when Apple allows shared experiences with the headsets, its only with other Vision Pro users. I differentiate See-Through AR (like Hololens) from Pass-Through AR (like AVP). Eventually I think See-Through AR will take over, but for this decade and probably the next, the best AR will be using Pass-Through AR (like AVP). The idea of a shared virtual / AR space is great, but the challenges are huge. However, on a slightly different note, as far back as May of 2016 I remember using Big Screen to share my virtual screens with my buddy as well as several random people. I don't believe AVP has that built right in like that almost eight year old application either.
@DavidManningvlog10 ай бұрын
I've heard it as True Pass Through and Pass Through Feed, with the later being the AVP setup. But I think you're exactly right that a see through version is what will ultimately gain mass adoption. You called out my biggest issue with this. The lack of human interaction. I think the Quest 3 nailed this experience; I regularly work in Meta Workrooms with my buddies who live far away and it feels like we're working at the same table. We play mini golf and a bunch of other games and it actually feels like hanging out. I think the ability to make connections virtually with friends is my favorite thing about VR headsets. Apple's does the opposite and isolates you and when so much is isolating in the tech space, I think that's a huge negative.
@DavidManningvlog10 ай бұрын
Completely agree Andrew, but I think it's more of a V1 quirk than planned that way. There's already a few ways to interact virtually with other people like Facetime and some games, but I want to be standing next to someone that also has an AVP on and be sharing the same "AR" experience.
