No they were sent to several people. No doubt they got the right guy, but he was clearly working with somebody else. Even his own wife thought it was him. Nonetheless, the letters were sent to several people. It got worse after he went to prison, and they were being sent all around Ohio. Clearly an attempt by whoever he was working with to prove he was not the writer. They even sent him letters in prison. So many letters were being sent he actually got put in the hole, and then it stopped. Clearly him and his partner thought sending letters would help him, but all it did was get him put in the hole. The letters sent to him in prison made claims he was set up, and that he was the target all along, which made no sense.

On an unrelated and known sample of Paul's writing, he adds a decretive loop and swirl. Then on one of the mystery letters, the number 3 looks like someone was trying to copy it. I don't agree that it looks like he's not sure if wants to write a number 2 or a 3. And the uppercase G. I know many people who write it to look like that. I think the obsession with other people's lives and all of the details that the writer had were from a female. I worked with someone like that (not in Ohio.) She was a teacher who was overly religious and thought that she needed to interfere with the lives of everyone else. She would leave letters in the mailboxes of other teachers criticizing things they were doing that she thought were wrong. Men, generally, could not care less what others were doing.

I would really like to hear more about what friends/family--including Paul's family has to say about Karen Sue. It appears she just passed away this year, Karen Sue (Gillespie) Sorrick. It appears this is one of those that we may never know, even though we all want to so very badly!! I truly don't believe Paul was the writer.
@MyTube4Utoo19 күн бұрын
The letter writer wasn't a "highly educated person?" _She_ was/is an idiot! 😆 Also, that "document examiner," I believe, wasn't worth listening to. To say that she was "100% sure" of who the letter writer was, showed her ignorance, and arrogance. Handwriting analysis isn't an "exact science." Any more than "Criminal Profiling" is an exact science. Personally, from just what was presented here, I'd say it was the ex-wife. She "supposedly" saw, and had in her custody, some of the letters, but she didn't save them to show the police? She hated Paul enough to turn his own children against him. She had access to the gun and would have definitely known of any 'quirks' in Paul's handwriting in order to help in setting him up. Also, as the FBI Profiler mentioned, it was very telling that the writer made it a point, numerous times, to point out that she/he was (supposedly) male. When trying to remain anonymous, your biological sex is something that you wouldn't disclose. What should have been done is, set Karen Sue down and have her write a letter. Dictate it so it contained many (or all) of the words that were misspelled in the hundreds of letters. Words like "elemination, bullit, lonily," for example. Now, having said all that, wouldn't it be cool if the letter writer was Erin Moriarty? 😆 The letters were postmarked in Columbus, Ohio, where Erin grew up and was living when the letter writing began. Erin, we're going to need a handwriting sample. 😆
@eraldadevole19 күн бұрын

I feel like a lot was not covered that should have been in this episode. There were a lot of holes in the story where this was barely comprehensible. Just from looking at the various letters, though I'm no trained expert, it seems like the letters were written by more than one person and they were taking great lengths to disguise their writing by using the block letter style. Either they were not very educated or that was another misdirect like mentioning they had a girlfriend could have been. Words were misspelled, punctuation omitted. I think the son definitely had some part in it though I can't say how. The writing didn't appear consistent throughout the letters but instead had two or three styles of writing. The letters were also varied by being written on plain paper or lined paper at times. Paul's fingerprints being on the paper could have been as simple as him replacing printer paper and that paper being used by a coworker to write one of the letters. I also don't buy that he could have sent these from jail. Everything is monitored especially phone calls and mail, both incoming and outgoing. They would have been able to intercept the letters before they were actually sent out.

What struck me as interesting is how some of the letters were slightly italic, some were tall and thin, and others were perfectly square block letters. Looking at this from 30,000 feet, it appears that multiple people were involved. Maybe having taught the other how to print/write, or who grew up learning this style from the same adult...teacher, grandparent, neighbor, etc., or copycats capitalizing on the opportunity to out people, is why certain numbers/letters were similar. But this does not look like one person's effort.

I also questioned when they said his DNA was found on the letters even after he was in prison because cross contamination (according to all these crime shows anyway) happens easily. And I can't dismiss the eyewitness testimony of the man and el camino style vehicle apparently planting the bomb. The son getting caught in the middle of a difficult divorce and perhaps stealing the gun for the purposes of his mother and her new male friend? The rest of the evidence doesn't seem as cut and dry as handwriting experts say. Forgery is an art some make millions with...maybe the revengeful wife got what she wanted?

Got cheating wife, Mary who could possibly want her husband out of the way , and an ex-wife, Karen sue who could possibly want her husband out of the way, maybe the two could be framing Paul ? the two women are friends i would focus on Mary and Karen Sue, then what do i know.

If Preshaur didn't have any pens or paper in prison, how did he have outgoing mail? And it's completely possible that Preshaur wrote these in prison, mailed them to someone else who then mailed them to other people so it didn't show them coming from the prison.

Because they check your letters! And if they thought he was the sender you better believe they would’ve read everything he had outgoing.

He either wrote them, or someone studied his handwriting for hours, and practiced until they perfected the handwriting. Handwriting proves nothing, but, the fingerprints on the letters is the smoking gun. As I said, guards can be bribed to do anything. I don't believe anything I see or hear, so it's all up in the air. Intriguing, it matters not now. Forget about it, no one will ever be cleared. Why doesn't someone pay to do DNA on the letters? How about you, 48 hours. What the hell? You have the money. Put the matter to rest if you care so much. Old story, stupid. Do better. There is not as much crime as you think, to rehash these old, tired stories. How about some black on White crime. We'd love to hear it.

The writing analyst being so sure makes me not believe her tbh… if she woulda said “evidence in the writing is overwhelming but I can’t confirm with certainty that it’s him” I think I’d think it was him. But being willing to bet your life on something that you can’t prove makes me think you’re either a little off or just over confident in your ability … but I hate do I know

This episode leaves a ton of loose ends or points that are kind of explained only weakly. 7:42 So Ron Gillespie was the brother-in-law to Paul Freshour. How? Was Karen Sue (Paul's wife) Mary's sister? At 27:32 we learn Karen Sue was living in a trailer on Mary's property. 9:09 "Mary had always denied having an affair with Massie, but after Ron's death, she says they began seeing each other..." 😂 Sure, ok. 14:22 Handwriting sample lol yeah it was Paul.

@@Cautionary_Tale_Harris I could have missed something but the letters continued a long time? Who died or became incapacitated around the time they stopped? Who had access to paper that dude would've touched? What was done to investigate where the letters were mailed from? Dropped in a box? Surveillance? There's got to be a better show done by someone about this case. Seems like just a lot of shrugging and "oh well, we have no idea what's going on!" Surely it's not as lazy and sloppy as it seems.

I don't see how a forensic document examiner aka handwriting analyst in this case can be 100 % sure. Though I give the analysis some weight. Also, a really twisted person can sometimes make others think he's a great guy. I can't judge who wrote those letters, so I appreciate the ideas in the comments.
@ajk20099 күн бұрын
well said ... excellent comment ... looking at the wikipedia page for Beverley East, she is a leader in the field of handwriting analysis and is a court-qualified forensic document examiner ...

... but retired FBI profiler Mary Ellen O’Toole, Ph.D is also a seasoned professional ... O'Toole's conclusion is less definitive, but seems to point towards Karen Sue Gillispie ... ex-wife of Paul Freshour.
