$48K truck purchase turns into stolen vehicle nightmare for Alberta couple

A purchase of a brand new Dodge Ram 3500 has turned from a bright future to possible bankruptcy for a couple from Alberta. Yhon Linares and Herminia Casanova say they did their due diligence when looking at the $48,500 purchase.
“We went to a shop for an inspection, to make sure the truck was ok,” Casanova said. “We checked the VIN number on the dash. We checked the VIN by the door. We checked registration and the licence plate - it all matched,” Linares added.
The payment was completed the next day, and a few days later the couple said they took the truck to a local dealership to get it checked out and a new key cut. That’s when the trouble started, according to Linares.
“Suddenly a whole bunch of people start running towards the truck, looking into the engine and they were crawling underneath (the truck) taking pictures," Linares said.
Unaware of what was going on, Linares started to ask questions. “Your truck, it may be a stolen truck,” the mechanic told them.
Police were called and the truck was seized immediately. The investigation was eventually turned over to Calgary Police. As Global's Tomasia DaSilva reports, now they are out of their truck and their cash.

I read the article and the truck price was $62,500 but cause of cosmetic damage and cause it was no longer under warranty they were ok to sell it for $48,500. But question is who buys a $85,000 truck off the dealership with no warranty I don't even think that is possible cause you still have the manufacturer warranty, not to mention the price of a diesel does not really reflect a whole lot on the cosmetics that much unless you need to replace a huge part of the truck. This couple got scammed pretty good

It is better to buy a truck from a dealership instead of from a website like kijji, etc. I am not sure where they purchased the truck. If it looks to good to be true it probably is. I am not saying the Couple did anything wrong. I am just saying Buyer beware.

I’m confused. Did they get a CarFax before purchasing the truck? There is a picture of one in the video, but there was no mention of it. If so, a CarFax report includes a lien search. So, if that didn’t show anything, CarFax should be the one liable and that couple should be getting their money back IMMEDIATELY one way or another. If they didn’t, and they didn’t get any other lien search done, then that’s on the buyers. That is one of the number one things to do before buying a used vehicle, especially privately. Yes, it costs a little bit, but it will be totally worth it when compared to losing the vehicle and the money you paid for it if it happens to be stolen or have money owing. If the buyer chooses not to get it done, then that’s completely on them.

So expensive truck, even mine dodge challenger 2017 was just $28.000 paid off after 4 years dealers and some criminals are very attractive to my car and wanna to steal it so bad and I put everything security like lock and Apple air tag gps and steering wheels handle bar locked and after two months later nobody takes it cause I put a piece of paper that says, if you steal my car I call the cops
