For what you showed, a jaw-dropping value for sure. I tried to Google the Concord brand to see about the cost or availability of a replacement battery, but came up empty. I do see an eerily similar battery on Amazon for $269. It seems like if you want a second battery, just buy a second bike and have a spare of everything else as well.🤣

I've worked at many bike shops and all over in the bike industry. Every once in a while I stop in on this channel to see where department store bikes are at on the better end. This and many other products are truly incredible for the sport. I will always recommend people buy for a local shop, local private mechanic or even any of the big DTCs, but there are so many people that simply can't afford the bar to enter the industry. Bikes like this and the Ozark series make me so incredibly hopeful for the growth of the industry. The people that buy these will go on to hopefully upgrade and move into the mainstream parts of the industry. They'll vote in local elections for people that care about bike infrastructure, they'll join local groups and pay to maintain local trails. This will unquestionably hurt local shop business, but it's hard to overlook the increble volume of these being sold to people that other may not buy a new bike at all. It's wild to think Trek and now Walmart are championing engaging with the community. Props to you Walmart and thank you Kev for getting these things out there.

Upgrade the rear 14t freewheel to 11t to get better pedal assist as well. Simple thing to do on these. IDK why all these department stores bikes keep using inefficient 14t freewheels in the rear that limits top speed. Larger range 11t-34t will also help with hill climbs. That small 350W motor could use all the help it can get.

One of my favorite shifters, it works so well and has a satisfying click. The lack of cutoffs is almost a deal breaker, when you need 100% stopping power I don't want the brakes fighting the motor.

It's very convenient when im going around a corner, and i can pull the brake just enough to kill the motor, but pedal around it like a normal bike. Sometimes you dont want the pas kicking on during a corner.

If you don't need the fenders and cargo rack, the Hyper 26" 36V Electric Mountain Bike from Walmart is $100 less. It has front suspension. While not the best, it's a lot easier on the arms/wrists. I believe Kev has a couple of reviews on it.

Well I could not find the Concord Commutr available at Walmart, and bought a Hyper E-Ride 700C 36V Electric Commuter E-Bike for Adults, Pedal-Assist, 250W Mid-Drive Motor, Matte White, $798.00--a Rollback it said. I put it together with some hesitancy. Feels heavy. The handle bars don't seem to tighten beyond my ability to twist them in the stem no matter how hard I tighten the bolt on top. Time will tell.

I wish I could test ride several different ebike motor configurations before deciding to drop $500 to $1,000+ on a kit or bike....One of my bucket lists is a long hobo ebike/motorized bike or diy electric velomobile across USA to see all the sights. I have a campervan that needs some work. But a diy electric velomobile could be way cheaper & more reliable......I was thinking about a rail bike 🚲 with pull behind gear trailer. That could quickly convert between a road bike & railroad track bike....I really like the idea of a diy amphibious electric velomobile. Where the seat could lay flat & convert into a sleeping pod. It'd be hard to build but imagine a velomobile that could be rode directly into & out of water & used as electric-pedal assist boat/kayak on water & velomobile on the road.

Just got a great deal on a mid-drive commuter. The TESWAY Comet-M is listed for $1399+shipping on their website but they are $799+$200 shipping on Amazon. Sure this is more $$ than the Concord but it is a class 3 mid-drive, 27.5, 1000Wpk, 28mph, Thumb throttle and PA. Mid-drives are typically never under $1500-$2000. It's still in transit so I don't have any experience with it but I thought I'd pass on the info. Maybe you could get your hands on one to review.

The thing that always concerns me with budget e-bikes is battery quality and replaceability. Some sort of e-bike standartization is a must so parts are readily available down the line

That's why I built my own. Any 48-52v shark style battery fits. Bonus I was able to fit about 50% larger battery than anything I've seen on prebuilt bikes.

Technically cheap Chinese style e-bikes are pretty repairable. The 3 main components, the controller, the battery, and hub motor are easily sourced. Compared to a Bosch bike, you can only get the repair via Bosch. Some western bikes have digital systems on the battery that will brick itself if it is connected to different controller. The main issue is the labor to fix a $500 ebike is probably $100-200 before parts.

Found an amazon listing for 350w mid-drive (bafang bbs01 with 10.4ah battery included) 27.5" bikes for $600 Canadian. I don't know how they're selling them at that price, but the box says haven powerflow 88805 and google's telling me the MSRP on that model is 1500 US, and the pictures look like what I got. I don't know if these fell off the back of a truck or sat in a warehouse too long or something but I've bought two. Steal of a deal.

Update after about 100 miles of riding this bad boy I understand The lack of a cup holder, this is for getting you to and from work not trips However I'm liking taking trips on 5his bike and not having one is an issue for me, but it just means I keep a water bottle in my pannier Other than that I did do some minor upgrades; put on some lock on grips, rear view mirrors, put on a small bag that has emergency things(multitool and tire levers mostly), lights and a phone mount Other than those bike rides super well, shifts like a dream

Check the dates on the reviews. The VAST majority of them are on 4/11/24, and are not a "verified purchase". I bought the white step through model as I am older than dirt. My review is dated 5/13/24, if anyone is interested. I easily installed a throttle, which solved my controller issue. Otherwise the bike is doing great. "Overall", I am very happy, but without the throttle, I would be getting a refund.

@@grayson_morgan Glad to help. The controller is below the battery, remove the battery and use a #1 phillips screwdriver to remove (3) screws from the black cap. Pay attention which screws went where. Use a pair of pliers to lift the black cap straight up. Right on top of the wiring, you will see two unused plugs. The throttle uses the three wire plug. Now that you know what the plug should look like, you can order your throttle. Every time I put a link in a comment, the comment gets deleted? So search the web for ebike throttle, and order the type you want. I used a thumb throttle. Now that you have your throttle, making sure the wires are black to black and red to red, go ahead a plug in the throttle at the controller.(we are testing) On this bike you can connect your battery by setting it mostly in place, and then pushing down on the top of the battery. Don’t push hard on the bottom or you may pinch your wires. Now, you should be able to start the ebike. Make sure it is in pedal assist mode (1). The throttle will not work at pedal assist (0). Lift up the rear wheel and try your throttle. I should work, if not check connection(s). Now that you know the throttle works, unplug it. Next, you need to feed the throttle wire/plug up from the bottom so you can permanently connect it to the controller. Use a “fish tape” method. Connect the throttle to the controller, and replace the black cap. Remove the right side handlebar grip, move the brake lever and shifters over a little and slide the throttle onto the handlebar. Replace the grip, secure loose wires, and you are done. Honestly, it is not a five minute job, it could take an hour or more, but it is time well spent. p.s. I chose to just tape the throttle wire under the bike frame, but it could be done with the wire hidden internally (fish tape). Good Luck, let me know how it goes.

I'll tell ya what, since I'm curious myself, I'll take a look at that no later than tomorrow morning, and I'll give you my "opinion" of what they could be used for. However, I think you are right, because, typically two wires means lights or brakes, and the bike already has a light. Get back w/you tomorrow.
