I agree about soaking the bushing not doing anything. They are not sintered, but solid metal. Using a good grease is much better. Just gotta be careful not to use too much and contaminate clutch pads. A spiral groove cut into the bushing will also help retain grease longer

I was fighting with the o-lite bushing problem since the '70s, when I worked on legacy 3M industrial products. Replacing them with a real bearing was my preferred solution. Sometimes the only option was cleaning the bushing with a piece of rolled up green Scotchbrite soaked in clean oil. Oil, not grease, is what worked best for me, and it was a reular maintenaince item. Inspection for wear and replacement was required. In the '80s new delrin bushings were available for replacements, but were only used where heat was not an issue.

I got one of those 53cv 4 stroke motors and I put it on my huffy Cranbrook , it worked fine for the first couple days and I didn't ride it much at all and I knew about how not to go very fast so everything will seat properly , but the 3rd day I started it up and it seemed like everything was fine , so i shut it off and went in and grabbed the things i needed and i tried starting it again and the back tire wouldn't move ! It was the last thing I thought of , but I just watched your video and I'm going to try that tomorrow ! So wish me luck ! Thanks for sharing by the way ! Peace

This is been a problem I've been trying to figure out since I bought the motor I thought it was natural but I would see people with their bikes just sitting idling I would have to start it and instantly start writing thank you very much. Now I can enjoy this bike. Because it's been a pain in the ass trying to start

You can also look at the idle bracket if you have the stock setup. Sometimes the idle bracket is not setback far enough. If that is the case, use a spring to counter pull the idle bracket back so that your idle can be lowered more. Hope this helps! Happy building.

Good looking bike and normaly I prefer the look of two strokes but that engine looks good on there! Chrome or you know metal on black just looks good! I would personally try and do away with the red cover but I get that it sort of ties the red of the tires in! All in all it's a good looker!!!

A case of a tuber who doesn't know what he's talking about. These kits come standard with brass bushings, not olite. Brass bushings use grease only, not oil. The problem is the brass bushing runs out of grease and then has a tendency to lock up. The solution is to periodically apply grease to the brass bushing, or modify the clutchbell to accept an olite bushing.

Currently in mortal combat with this exact problem. I got ahead of you before I found this video and have removed both pulleys and the bell and found 1 of the shoes was flopping around loose. Could the bushing problem be the cause of the broken spring? I know that bushing has never been greased but only has maybe 20 hours on it or less. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
@SouthernCustomCC
@SouthernCustomCC 3 жыл бұрын
Definitely could be due to constant engine engagement. And, yes, that bushing needs to be lubed constantly; so 20 hours could have caused that.

Why did you not just grease them with lithium? That is what the brass Babbitt bushings are made to run with. You sprayed some form of degreaser like wd40 or they never had grease to start with and of course they will stick if there is no grease! Oil is not going to last very long on this surface it's not a cast iron Babbitt bushing!

@thepedalkickers2701

Did you prime the engine beforehand? I like to make a few very V E R Y slow pulls at half throttle to get some fuel in the cylinder, and then give it a few fast ones with no throttle to start it. Hopefully that can help your starting issue. It certainly helped mine. It certainly beats having to give the engine fifteen pulls to start it even with the choke on.
@stephenandloriyoung5716
@stephenandloriyoung5716 Жыл бұрын
@@thepedalkickers2701 No, but I've wished for an accelerator pump like carbureted car engines have, to prime it. Mine starts pretty well with just a little throttle opening, but the problem is I need three hands - one to pull the starter cord, one to crack the throttle open, and one to hold the brake on. Being one hand short, I position the front wheel against something that won't move, which means I need only two hands. I had one of the electric start two-strokes, which was nice, but...two-stroke. Is an electric starrt, fuel injected four stroke, for $100., too much to ask? Let me dream on.

@SouthernCustomCC
@SouthernCustomCC 3 жыл бұрын
No. Check your throttle cable length. Then check your idle screw. Then check your cable stopper at the carb. Then check your oiled bush bearing. Lube that up and it should help. Clutch springs, if you have the pocket bike transmission, could be too stiff.
@hillock10
@hillock10 3 жыл бұрын
I know you mean well but grease should never be used with oilite bushings because it inhibits the flow of oil in and out of the bushing which is porous. The recommended oil for impregnation of the bushing is 30 wt.
@hillock10
@hillock10 3 жыл бұрын
@@WillB-lv1xg Well you have to first know whether you have a bronze or Oilite bushing before applying anything to it. Soaking a bronze bushing in oil is useless. Oil is for the Oilte bushing and grease is for the bronze bushing. The tuber here applied both grease and oil. Grease is a big mistake for an oilite bushing which he should know.

@SouthernCustomCC 2 жыл бұрын
Make sure that your throttle linkage is not engaging the carb and opening up he flow of air/gas. This would cause the tire to spin. Another possibility is adjusting the idle screw to a lower rpm. Another suggestion is using white lithium grease on the bushing. All are possibilities. I'd start with the first one.
