People forget that at the end of the day we are all just trying to entertain people. Even if someone is a plant, at the end of the day there have always been plants in that record labels are SELLING A PRODUCT! If you really care about someone’s “comeup” or whatever there are plenty or people with little to no fame that you can check out. Don’t waste time on twitter complaining about details in someone’s comeup and just listen to what you like. Small artists will struggle whether there are industry plants or not, the issue is not the plants.

So im back a day later to construct my thoughts! Firstly, I'll say I think you're. completely right about 4batz not being an industry plant, great investigative work! I also think you're claim about the industry plant label being washed or overused is somewhat right, it was certainly a more relevant term when hip hop was the biggest genre in the world and labels would pump out anything to capitalise on the moment (2017ish). However, I feel a lot of peoples grievances are somewhat valid, just shouldn't be aimed directly at 4bat for being an industry plant. Firstly, my screen times quite low and the only social media I do use is instagram so I'll speak to that. Bloody hell, was my feed absolutely flooded with 4batz promo for so much of the end of last year. Bear in mind, im from London so don't follow all the American hip hop publications and still couldn't escape it. Now, plenty of promo doesn't make you an industry plant and like you said anyone with a plan may be able to pull this off if they're lucky enough but I think this tied to a lot of the resistance we've seen in his campaign. My first sort of counter point is people are TIRED of how artist particularly new ones should market themselves as so much of it has to do with (soft) spam. From a small artist perspective the meta is practically spam socials (TikTok) with a snippet of your song and if you're lucky maybe a buzz will happen. For 4batz it's really not too different, he took a snippet of his track and media publications all over the internet reposted it. My main problem with this is that is plainly obnoxious, especially for your actual followers who just have to act like they haven't heard said snippet x amount of times. The next problem is the lack of discourse that comes with this promotion method, People forget how innately social music is and how much demand there is for people to talk about the music. This level of spam and repost completely skips the part where you tell your friends about it or talk about it on places like hadji's channel on the internet if your irl friends dont care. Telling a friend about a new artist or project or discussing the state of the genre whether online or not is essential to the perpetual growth of it. Part of that lack of discourse definitely comes down to the fact the guy HAS ONE SONG out, literally not much to say about that. Also, the music isn't breaking the avant-garde meter either, I don't dislike it but it's a bit like a diet Brent Faiyaz with a pitch up. If your put your music in front of literally everybody, and nobody's got anything to say about it, dont be surprised when they start talking about you! You mention the importance of artist development so much and we're practically seeing it in reverse here! We dont know shit bout this nigga, except he likes to spend money on his girl?? And yet his music is on all of our feeds. While this unorganic approach to marketing has its results as he's just signed to ovo, I wonder what type of message it sends to other artist, who already aren't incentivised to build a large catalogue of music or develop themselves with much depth. How does this work for him longevity wise? Is this a small part of a bigger issue with this "oversaturated" industry. For me the 4batz situation, is like an amalgamation of all of the changes (some call them problems) that have entered the industry since spamming people feeds on TikTok and bloody algorithms became the decider of what the PEOPLE wanna hear. Love the vids hadji this years gonna b crazy for u, there's a shit ton of people dyingggg for this content it just aint on their homepage yet (almost the same problem with music industry haha). p.s I be dropping these long comments so the algorithm knows we engaged !!!!📕📕

Bro, your videos are super good. I don’t know how you still haven’t reached 2k. The way you give your own insight/testimony as an artist makes me realize I shouldn’t immediately think of someone as a plant. But I feel, as for all his accounts to be made in such quick succession just in November of last year, now achieving millions on millions of streams SZA, Ty Dolla Sign, Drake, and Kanye all shouting him out and even doing a feature for this NEW artist this quick? No way. And the convention of naming all the singles “acts” is pretty weird. With no archived or old songs to be found anywhere is also pretty weird. But you could say he never released and was getting better in silence. But for you to release 2 songs, 2! And already major labels fighting for man, I can’t simply say there isn’t something fishy going on.

wouldn’t call him a plant per say since we’ve seen his come up since 2019 and I don’t think his aesthetic or vision is completely built for him. His label is certainly doing their job tho lol, his industry connects don’t hurt either. I don’t really like his music but I was shocked when his album missed the billboard 200.

An actual industry plant is someone with virtually no creativity, artistic vision, or any agency at all over their career. The label doesn’t develop them into an artist who can stand on their own merit. The label creates an entire career and image, then just plugs in a random nobody to play the roll. An actual industry plant has nothing to offer once the smoke and mirrors are taken away. This is NOT what 4Bat is. 4Bat may not be the most original act ever, but he can actually sing and perform. Any sort of company push behind that is simply the label doing its job.
