@@WaldiaBynes we all do. I am so tired of seeing my hard work and progress end up in the trash I am starting a new 2 step process for my protective style takedowns. Day1 - focus on takedown, cowash with conditioner only for detangling in small sections. No shampoo whatsoever. Then 2-3 days later - focus on entire wash day routine starting with shampooing, etc, etc.

Give your hair breaks between protective styles: sometimes the can put tension on our crown.
@alvetaanderson94403 жыл бұрын
You asked for advice: I would urge you to go to a stylist to trim your hair. The stylist would give you an outside, independent assessment of your hair's condition, trim it thoroughly, and that's what you need. Secondly, I would reduce the protective styling. Thirdly I would carefully watch my diet and cook my own meals (you probably do this already) and move away from the vegetable and canola oils.
@jmalbertus67522 жыл бұрын
I feel you big time. Used to have thick full 4c hair... then I got tired so I did a taperred cut (shave!!)... Many dyes, childbirth, braids, no QT and TLC for my hair years further...its a hot mess...I look at old pictures and just feel sad. Thinking about a 3th big chop, finding a good routine and actually trying to stick to it brought me here.
@vastya.32552 жыл бұрын
This happened to my hair, I now strongly believe it’s due to me protective styling. My hair used to flourish when I just wore it out. I hate to see my protective styles go but they really caused my hair to thin and break cuz my hair would be dry and my scalp would hurt so now I’m trying to find a way to style my now neck length 4c hair (I cut it several times cuz I didn’t understand why it was growing in thin, I fixed my supplement intake and proper breathing!) , now I will massage every other day to relieve tension and in the weekends my head will be free, I have to think of a style for throughout the week that suits me
@vastya.32552 жыл бұрын
Trimming is indeed step one but I’m done trimming now, I used to overtrim, so now it’s low tension, low manipulation + occasional trims and wash every 2 weeks , I used to underwash and it just contributes to the soreness of my scalp

Tbh, the broken spots do not look like you accidentally cut it. It would be more blunt. That is from ongoing damage. I'd let a professional cut the troubled spots because trying to style damaged hair is a pain in the butt. I have worn locs for the past 4-5 months as well and had this same problem I only cut my hair once but the thinning through our my hair is weird it makes it looks like I have heat damage and I don’t... My twistouts were looking terrible. So of course I cut it but I feel like I need to cut more off cause I still have some straggly looking ends but won’t worry about it now since I’m getting color I’ll have fun for a bit and go back to being healthy later. I wouldn’t be in this boat if it wasn’t for the locs I’m still puzzled on why my hair reacted like this to them.

@WaldiaBynes3 жыл бұрын
Omg someone else also suggested Olaplex! Thanks sis I will def look into this 🙏🏾🙏🏾
@PreppyFay123 жыл бұрын
I just used Olaplex No. 0 and No. 3 together and my hair is definitely stronger and breaks off less with gentle hair practices but I think a shape up would also be good when you’re ready. Also personally after using Olaplex, and being, 2 weeks out since the treatment, I feel like I wouldn’t then use rice water or another strengthening treatment I think it would be too much and dry the hair out. Olaplex will definitely strengthen but I think a good trim and cut(shape up) would help the hair to have more evenness and volume.

@@cindychristian1700 can you share the link to the one you prefer? Is the attachment the only difference or is it the performance as well?
@cindychristian17003 жыл бұрын
@@favorednatha226 It's a rubber comb attachment by Willie Morrow, the great inventor of the afro pick! My blow dryer is 1800 watt by Conair but it fits on any blow dryer with a long nozzle because it has a clamp that adjusts to the size of the nozzle! It's been out since the eighties! I got mine's from Amazon years ago! It's still about $20! It's better because it's so strong that the teeth don't brake! I also used duck or gorrilla tape because it's over 15 years old, it's time for a new one, lol, and I didn't have the right detangling products for my 4c , with very crazy shrinkage hair, and it would pop off sometimes but now I'm using Curl Peace line that contains marshmallow root and I don't have tangles like that anymore! It's great line of products! PS When I get my new blow dryer comb I won't need the tape because it worked fine for over ten years by itself!
