Thanks. It wasn't very hard to do and you will also have more room for error. Those kits are cut almost exact. If you are the slightest bit off you will have to buy a new set. This is a much easier and safer way to do it.

Do you have any recommendations as to where I can find this material online? I saw a few dealers on Ebay and one of them is selling a 12" x 60" roll for about $6.00. Not 3M brand but a clone of it I suppose. I also heard it's easy to remove in case you no longer like the look and it leaves no sticky residue behind. Is this true? Thanks!!

Great work :) I do have a question. What if the Carbon Fiber Vinyl is not sticky enough? Is their any glue or something that can be applied that won't damage the paint or leave any residue if the Vinyl is removed?
@DaveMedicus8 жыл бұрын
+akshay sobs You can try to apply heat to the vinyl to melt the glue already on the material and try it. Other than that if its not sticky I would not even attempt to use it. There is some glue that would hold the edges but that won't help you if the material is bad.

Heating the vinyl up makes cutting harder. If it conforms and stretches cutting isn’t as easy as when it’s stiff. It’s like paper pretty stiff you can hold it in one hand and cute through real easy. Good finished product thought looks great!

Anyone know how smooth a plastic panel needs to be for vinyls to stick ?? . For example the dark grey panels on many cars have a light molded pattern on the surface ( so not to be shiny and smooth ) as on tops of interior door panels on a HYUNDAI or a KIA where your elbow would rest.
@DaveMedicus4 жыл бұрын
Usually will conform to those small surface changes well. Gloss patters will show more mistakes or that texture. If you are using a textured vinyl you should be fine in my opinion.

I kept it on for 3 years but you can keep them on for way longer. I’ve see people easily get 6 years out of it. I had a decal on my truck hood for the 8 years that I owned it. It just gets a little harder to pull off because it gets brittle with age. I’m talking about when under force.

@DaveMedicus9 жыл бұрын
A hair drier will work on smaller parts. It will take you longer to heat it up but it does work.
@aquicktake2 жыл бұрын
Appreciate the effort - but never understood the logic of applying CF on that particular area. I mean it would far be better to use a satin or gloss black than CF. Portraying the idea that CF is there - that your pillars are made of CF (in a key structural reinforcement area of the vehicle) is a bit ridiculous don't you think? Faux CF on the roof or hood I could reconcile - but not on pillars.
@DaveMedicus2 жыл бұрын
It was different and a style that I liked. Toyota actually used carbon fiber vinyl on their pillars from the factory.

How well do these wraps hold up to weather?
@DaveMedicus8 жыл бұрын
They hold up great. I lived in Arizona so I had to deal with 110+ heat in the summer and then snow in the winter. As long as you don't dig into them with like an ice scraper they are fine. Rocks can mess them up just like it would your paint job.

How does it stand up to touchless car washes?
@DaveMedicus9 жыл бұрын
***** It stands up fine to touchless car washes. However I will say that this product didn't hold up to my expectations. I would pay the extra money and use a 3m or better product. It works well inside but I have to redo the exterior because the vinyl actually expanded and now doesn't sit correctly. Its really annoying because if anything I expected it to shrink.
@DaveMedicus9 жыл бұрын
+D0tam4n You only want to heat where you are going to stretch the material. If I heated the whole material the pattern would be incorrect. You don't see videos where people heat every inch of the vinyl when wrapping a whole car. This stuff was like $7 for a 5 foot section its adhesive was really cheap and I live in AZ so it got hot and would not stick well. The 3m I used worked perfectly and was a much higher quality material.

Seba Supreme Yes it can. I am thinking of possibly doing another video using 5D carbon fiber to see how that would look

how to apply if we got windshield on the pillars ?

What type of vehicle so that I can try to visualize it. Without looking at it specifically you can vinyl up to the window cut and tuck it behind it so that its not visual from the outside. I am sorry if this doesn't help you because I don't know your specific vehicle. just let me know.

Dave Medicus Mazda 3 2005 Sir .. i am actually trying to do it ...your video was so accurate and encouraging...can you suggest me another solvent other than the alcohol..

would it look real if u put some clear resin over it? like surfboard resin or something? or even some clear coat? it just doesn't have the "pop" that real carbon fiber twill does.

there is 5D carbon fiber now.. just installed it on my 5 series Bmw.. and it does have the sheen and everything like real carbon fiber does. it's even glossy so no need for clearcoat.

+Damien Nicholas I put wax on mine once and it took away the 4d look. I would just buy the 4d or the 5d like luis said.

y a t il un risque d'avoir une déformation des ligne de carbone lors de la pose?
@DaveMedicus6 жыл бұрын

You don't have to get carbon fiber vinyl wrap. The vinyl wrap is available in many different colors and finishes. Look on eBay and Amazon to see all of your options, many sellers will also offer a small piece of wrap for just a few dollars so you can see how it looks in person. I bought a sample from 1 dealer, it looked great on the internet, but looked like crap in person.

how abt directions to do window visors with the carbon vinyl i would love to see how thts done
@DaveMedicus8 жыл бұрын
+Darien Bryan The vinyl won't work in the visors in this vehicle because of them being padded. What you would want to to is create an overlap in the vinyl and then make one cut for the two pieces. This will give you a perfect matching line even if your cut isn't perfect. typically you will make the cut on the sides.
