What does it do that the Hasbro version won't? The answer is that it becomes a gun and looks very toon accurate. Mine is on its way, and I wanted it because it's a gun. I will get the SS86 version as well. Hopefully, we won't see tank kibble all over it. I'd happily see it be a parts former if it meant the robot mode was perfect. The gun mode for G1 Megs only existed because the whole toy line was taken from various Japanese lines. Mass shifting is ridiculous and I hate it on my Transformers. I was never a fan of Megatron turning into a tiny gun and then into the supposed leader. He works better as a tank, jet, or helicopter. His animation design was always top notch (his toy, not so much), and so making him accurate in bot mode but a tank in vehicle mode is the best thing they could do.

The slight height difference between Newage Megatron and SS86 Optimus Prime. That wont really show in dynamic poses. I only see it being stand out noticeable. If you put the figures next to each other standing straight up arms to the side. There could always be an upgrade kit later on. That will give Megatron a little more to his feet, and height. I'll be getting both Megatrons. Newage and SS86. So I can have gun mode, and what is sure to be a tank mode for SS86.

It's way better than any $55 Hasbro product because NewAge uses better plastic, has a lot more paint, won't have any gaps, has diecasts and will have a more complex transformation. This Megatron will also turn into a gun. Hasbro will be all plastic with minimal paint, will have gaps and probably some QC issues. SS-86 Megatron will also turn into a tank, which he did not turn into in the movie. Love Takara Tomy / Hasbro but, they take a lot of shortcuts on their toys and they're generally made for children.

I ain't trying to defend a 1.4k product here, but what I'm saying is it should be obvious that a product like this would be flawed and would suffer from some issue. There's are reasons why Hasbro never makes anything bigger than 24 inches tall (excluding Haslab Unicron), and plastic material clearances are one reason why. This is not a toy and should not be treated like one. It's the size of a toddler, for God's sake. It's made with hardcore TF collectors in mind.

NewAge's "Romulus" transforms into a (small and inaccurate) gun and looks the part in robot mode. Hasbro's SS86 Megs will be a safe (and inaccurate) Tank again. That's all it boils down to. The only question is whether Hasbro can hide the tank bits so well that it looks like 86 movie Megs, complete with the gun barrel on his back. We'll see... I'm not too optimistic at this scale though.

If Lewin Resources did take the warning off the box in order to get more people to buy it, that was a grimey move. However, I think a lot of HASBRO loyalists look for any kind of excuse whether true or false, just so they can throw shade and hate at third party companies. HASBRO and TAKARA obviously don’t try and do right by the fans and they’re the official makers of Transformers, which is why third party exists to begin with. I support third party and Hastak. My loyalties do not lie with just one company like HASBRO fanboys do. I’m buying the best option available; official or unofficial. We already know that ss86 megatron transforms into a tank. That's already a big fail. Gun megatron = 1986 movie accurate. Tank megatron = devastation game accurate. So Hasbro should change the name SS86 megatron to SS devastation megatron. Because that's finally makes sense. I was gonna wait it out for a bit on the NewAge Romulus. I knew it was Earthrise Scaled more than SS86, so I figure NewAge may consider making 2.0s in the near future, since it wouldn't be the first time they've made 2.0 legs for their Megatrons, if one remembers their Agamemnon getting a leg upgrade because people said that the leg transformation was too weird, and later renditions and rereleases of the mold used the 2.0 legs.

I do have a confirmed preorder on the LR Metroplex. One reason that Lewin MAY have removed the warning is that they MAY have found ways of reengineering the figure to better handle the strain since the figure was originally listed for preorder. There appear to have been at least a few changes since the first prototype images came out, mainly visible in the top-views of the shoulders in "carrier" mode. The assembly bolts that they recently showed are seriously heavy-duty. I have to hope that the joint-engineering, especially around the waist rotation, is similarly thought-out. Once again, I am merely speculating. Assuming that I receive my copy without issue, I will comment here with an update if I identify any areas of concern. On the subject of NewAge Megatron vs. SS-86 Megatron; I am pretty sure that the primary reason that people would be drawn to the NewAge version over a sight-unseen Hasbro SS-86 is for the alt-mode. Many purist collectors of G1 Transformers can't accept any alt-mode for Megatron other than the original Walther P-38 handgun. We KNOW that SS-86 can not turn into a handgun and be sold in the United States or many other markets. If the SS-86 somehow manages to hide any tank or alt. kibble convincingly, that could move the scales, but historical references don't favor this outcome.

I have the SS86, earthrise and have the bridge set earthrise repaint on pre-order. Since this Megatron doesn't scale with ss86 I plan on displaying him with the earthrise repaint and have the SS86 displayed on his own off to the side. Better than the hasbro or not doesn't matter to me, what matters is he is the G1 gun toy that I grew up with, and now my son gets one too.

I think the scaling for NA Romulus is disappointing, but not a huge deal breaker for me. He's still gonna stand out because of the level of paint and engineering compared to SS86 Optimus, so while I'll still be displaying them together until the SS86 Megatron comes out, I just more appreciate it as a cool Megatron figure. The 4’ tall Metroplex’s potential stress marks are most likely from the figure being in a standing position in robot mode. That means the approximate 90 pound weight is channeled vertically on a narrow cross-section of the figure. Therefore, as one approaches thin ice lay the robot must de down supine. This spreads the figure’s weight out across a wider cross-section & potentially may reduce or eliminate stress marking.

There may be some connection areas between the changing geometric shapes making up his chest which could potentially stress mark. It seems the safest mode with the largest cross-section is city mode. He's Earthrise scale. In comparison to Earthrise Megatron, so far, he's better than that. Only downside is missing the silencer and stock to make the gun emplacement. They need to make one in SS86 scale to show up Hasbro. i know the price is higher. I'm paying the premium to get the G1 alt mode that Hasbro is not willing to do.

I went in on Romulus. Even ordered 2 because I've always like the idea of Megatron becoming a gun even though it's actually one of the silliest things about Transformers but it is true to the animation. I'm really hoping that this might be a sign that NewAge is going to be doing more CHUG scale figures in the future including an Optimus that will scale with Romulus. I have SS '86 Optimus but I don't get why they made him bigger than the Siege and Earthrise versions. Now he's even taller than the other carbots. To me it seems that Hasbro is planning to upscale all future releases of G1 figures which is great as long as they fix the issues plaguing the lines for years with the waffling and gaps. Can we have better hand articulation be a standard already with wrist swivels? 😆

I'll pair him with my ER Prime since I think he fits that aesthetic a bit better than 86 anyway and pick up 86 Megatron for my 86 collection whenever that comes out

Though the Metroplex is impressively large, and detailed seeing the assembly video where door hinge sized steel pins have to be inserted into the limbs to hold it together is insane. Plastic quality would have to be very dense, and good to hold up to that amount of weight over time so not surprised in the least about Q/C issues or short longevity. I think the argument for new age Megatron can simply be summed up as he's G1 gun accurate so automatically better as Hasbro's sticking to a much more widely marketable/less controversial transformation/alt mode. Personally I don't do Third party figures so I'll be waiting on Hasbro's not gun Megatron later this year. Again in the minority but this I think can be accomplished as I think the Takara release of Megatron looks great despite being an abysmal mold. Also after seeing what Hasbro budgeted into the AOTPs Megatronus figure at only a Leader Class price point there is no excuse for this figure to either suck or be lacking in accessories. Only variable that is uncertain as of now is how well the plastic quality and Q/C will hold up against other recent leader releases.

Wow, thanks for letting us know about the potential breakage issues with this Metroplex - I had not heard anything yet. I don't plan to buy it because it's the IDW version which I'm not a fan of, but now I'm worried if the FansToys Fort Max might have the same issues, which I am hoping to buy if I can afford it. In regards to the New Age Megatron, I would think either NA or another Third Party could release an upgrade kit to increase the height, though he may have awkward proportions. I think people see this as an alternative because there's virtually no way that Hasbro will feature Meg's original alt mode, but if they do and manage to somehow hide it (like they did with Siege Shockwave), that would be wonderful.

It's a matter of credibility with NewAge and so far it's better than Hasbro. From their previous Megatron releases, they'd send replacement parts for the hips if there's a problem compared to Hasbro who doesn't even acknowledge the crappy product releases. IMO NewAge has a lot more experience making the Megatron as this is the 4th iteration of Megatron in its G1 form. Loved that NewAge supersized their toys which is what everyone of their fans wanted.

Yeah, I am not surprised that Metroplex might have issues. The bigger a figure is, the stronger it's joints need to be. That thing would need some special engineering in them to stand, much less hold any kind of pose. The plastic also needs to be of a very high quality to be strong enough and light enough. As for the Not Megatron, Eh. I've never been too attached to the gun alt mode, and even then that Gun is incomplete due to lacking the stock and silencer. And if you're arguement is "Well I'm just keeping him in Robot Mode", then I'm fine waiting to see what the SS86 is, as what he transforms into doesn't matter then, does it?

I already know NewAge Romulus / Megatron is going to be better as he'll actually transform into a gun. The other things that'll make him better are NewAge plastic feels very good, it'll be covered in paint, it'll have some diecasts and it won't have gap or hollow spaces on the plastic. Hasbro SS-86 Megatron will turn into a tank, which he didn't do in the movie. He'll also be all plastic, have minimal paint and will definitely have some gaps / hollow spots. He'll probably also have some Hasbro QC issues as this tends to happen a lot on Hasbro products such as loose joints or tabs not tabbing properly.

I'm not buying the metroplex. I haven't heard of this issue, but if it is true, it's a deal breaker. Having said that, manufacturers do not control ShowZ store listings-- ShowZ store does. Now if the manufacturer alerted ShowZ of this issue, and then advised them it is no longer an issue so it was removed... I don't see what the problem is. Regarding SS86 Megs/Newage Megs, the figure is short because they completed design prior to knowing the SS86 Prime was going to be taller than Earthrise. As you said, it is serviceable with some fancy display angles or posing. I am not sure how they could have rectified this given that they couldn't predict the future. I think they made a decent bet and ended up off the mark, which is understandable. Having said that, having seen the videos on Newage Megs, and owning dozens of Newage products, I am hard pressed to believe I will not prefer it to the Hasbro, but all of that rhetoric is meaningless speculation at this point. We haven't even seen the Hasbro. I think you bring up some good points, although I would be lying if I said I did not feel click-baited and I would appreciate some sources being offered in tandem.

The reason the MA Real 86 Megatron cannot be anything but superior to False Advertising Megatron is that he turns into a gun. We saw Megatron transform in the movie, it wa a gun. Megatron being a tank or a jet or a helicopter etc. is fine, but calling it "Studio 86" is a straight up dirty lie. I would have been fine with it if he was placed as a mainline or Generation Selects etc. figure, but still bought Regulus instead because I want a real G1 Megatron, not some poserashamed of his actual alt mode trying to look like the real G1 Megatron.

I will wait for 86 Megs in the hopes there is an unofficial pseudo gun mode. And then hope for a third party upgrade kit to make it look more g1 accurate. Or better yet…..Hasbro includes accessories that again unofficially combine or part form in a way that make the pseudo gun mode looks g1 accurate. The bloody thing will sell out faster than had it only a normal tank mode.

It will be a shocker if Hasbro can top NA Romulus. They couldn’t even make SS86 Prime as good as a Magic Square Prime, and maybe tie New Age’s prime (I think New Age’s looks better actually). The head sculpt is off, the backpack is huge, his head barely has any articulation. I don’t hate the figure, in fact I like it a lot, but Hasbro doesn’t have much of a chance to top New Age in my opinion. I’m getting Romulus and most likely ‘86 Megs as well just because my kids and I always get the official figures.

Go back and watch the 86 movie. Romulus IS the correct scale for 86 Prime! Megatron SHOULD be slightly shorter than O.P.! He was slightly shorter in the movie when him and O.P. fought. O.P. and Megatron have NEVER been the same height in animation. Even though multiple TOYS have had them the same height, they aren't. This IS an accurate scale to SS86 O.P.!

The cartoon was based on the toy. Collectors like myself who grew up watching the cartoon and reading the comics know Megatron as a gun. I'm sure if he was a tank to start with we would want him to always be a tank. That's not the case here. Those of you who grew up knowing Megatron as a tank probably feel something special towards that alt mode. I to be honest would like to see his jet bomber alt-mode done up as a leader class. Well, after I get my gun mode Megatron. :D

NewAge voyager size megatron is shorter than ss86 optimus prime. Yes But NewAge voyager size megatron is way more accurate to the 1986 movie than the "ss86" megatron that transforms into a tank. And so, "ss86" megatron is not 1986 movie accurate. They should rename "ss86" megatron to SS devastation megatron. That's more accurate. Yes he's in the SS-86 line, But "Ss86" megatron will NEVER be 1986 movie accurate. But Hasbro doesn't care anymore. Will NewAge voyager size megatron will be display with Earthrise optimus prime. Will use "ss86" megatron as devastation megatron. That's more accurate. Because I like that game.

The NewAge one will be better than Hasbro SS86 Megatron if you care about quality of materials (this almost Ceres)my has some limited diecast parts), complexity/engineering of transformation, and the fact that it transforms into a fun. Where it falls short is in the height department. But if yuh want a gun Megatron, this will objectively be better than Hasbro’s SS86 option. That’s not to say that the Hasbro Megatron will be bad… it just won’t be a fun, and its paint will likely be worse than on the Newage figure. I’d bet a cheeseburger on it.

Personally, yeah I think they should just have skipped him in SS86, and done a Devastation Megatron. I guess I didn't get my point across. While I've never actually seen proof of the story about a kid with the G1 toy being shot, I've seen enough stories about someone with an Airsoft gun getting shot. Sometimes in the parking lot of the store they were returning it to, while explaining it was not a real gun. There's a lot of idiot nutjobs in the USA with real guns, and they are the reason Hasbro won't do this. You can't get a Slave Leia or Jabba's dancers because Fox News once interviewed a dad who complained about how he didn't want to have to explain the outfit to his six year old. Hasbro sure as hell doesn't want to have to deal with someone tut tutting about the dangerous toy that looks just like a real gun, much less the lawsuit if anything actually happens.
