This is my 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse GST Build. I am going to check the clearances then install the crank and pistons.

So, I wanted to just add some info on here. When you are putting a motor together having the right tools is key. The tools don't cost very much, and you will get more accurate measurements. Get you self a dial bore gauge, outside micrometers and a caliper. learn how to use those tools and you are good to go. Also, when you were installing the bearings to the block with no lubrication do not ever spin the crank at all. When you install the main and rod bearings its best to use the lube on the bearings and make sure the full surface is covered. When checking the piston to wall clearance on a boosted engine this is another thing that is very important. If you have to small of a PTW clearance you will damage the motor and it will not last. If the PTW clearance is too big with will have lower compression and more crank case pressure. Turbo engines make more heat in the combustion chamber. With to small of a piston ring end gap those rings will but up against each other and you will break you piston and or rings. Not bashing you just giving you some advice when you assemble your next motor.

Thanks bro for commenting! I wouldn't rely on it as a guide but should be a good visual on 4G series design. Going over the edit I see all the careless mistakes.

The fist time i ever done quarter turns. I used a clear compass , with cloths hanger wire holding it up above the ratchet, affixed to the block. And it did my final turns much slower than you did. Also, its best to use a piston ring installer. Maybe the rings you have are stainless steel but mine were iron for the LS. Each open gap of the oil and piston rings should not line up when final instal is done on the piston. They should be so many degrees apart and if i remember correctly. Oriented in a certain direction according to the block.

The Compass is a awesome idea. Just have to work with the starting point being north. Looking back at the video I suspect the torque it higher or lower than spec.

Hey man, watched the video and noticed you putting a feeler gauge between the ring and cylinder wall. That measurement isn't going to tell you anything. The piston to wall clearance must be measured with a bore gauge and does not have to do with the rings. There is no need to measure the distance between the ring and the cylinder bore, since there should be no gap there - the ring is actually riding in the bore on the oil captured by the cross-hatch. If the ring end gaps were within spec, that's all you should be concerned with when gapping the rings.

You are right. I thought the measurement was off and just measured it and left it in the edit. Im not really doing a how to. When you see the results you may choose a different route. If I can ever finish these videos.

When I find out. I will post it to my channel. Many automotive books are going away. I found this out recently. So we must share what we know as much as possible because the auto industry is trying hard to push towards EVs.
