When filing piston rings always rotate the grinding stone towards the inside of the ring never the outside
@Gabe_Ortega4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for tip! Haven't heard of that yet.
@4g63spdfreak4 жыл бұрын
Anytime man! Yea the reason why is because when you are filing outwards you are creating micro burs that point out towards the cylinder and can score the cylinder wall if not filled down properly, so to reduce the risk you allow the burs to face toward the piston by turning the stone towards you and then you can lightly file down the outside. Great video BTW excited to see the progress.
@Gabe_Ortega4 жыл бұрын
@@4g63spdfreak ahh makes sense. Iv been using 1000 grit sandpaper to help get off any of the burrs that i may have made on the rings. Less the burrs the better! Thanks!

Very interesting tutorial. As I am not a mechanic but very interested in engine rebuilding. My car is a Misubitshi Galant MY 94 with a swapped 4g63 dohc n.a engine. I would like to know the possible causes of engine overheating after overhaul. What could be possibly wrong and what to look for? Tks a lot for your help.

Question, did you have to notch the bottom of the cylinder for the rods? I just put mine together and it looks really close, but it clears. Thxs
@hahahano27963 жыл бұрын
In the early 00' it was known that the late 96, 97, and early 98 cars were the most susceptible to crank walk and it was suspected that it was the manufacturing plant not changing their tooling enough and not having properly sized thrust bearings for the resulting tolerances. When combined with a then ACT 2600 or higher pressure clutch setup it almost guaranteed crank walk in those engines. Then ACT 2100 or similar "mild" clutches were hit or miss.
@Gabe_Ortega3 жыл бұрын
The newer split thrust washer Design drastically cut down crank walk on the newer blocks vs the old saddle style thrust bearings. You are right about the heavier clutch's took its toll on the older 7 bolt blocks.
@TD04_Trav3 жыл бұрын
@@Gabe_Ortega so I hear mixed info on this everywhere. Is the 99 7bolt the only one made with the better thrust bearing or is it all the 2gb cars 97-99?
@Gabe_Ortega3 жыл бұрын
@@TD04_Trav almost all 97-99 blocks were revised..however I have heard of some 97 blocks to be the older style.

When you're torquing down the head do you need to do like 60 degrees after the 90 foot pounds? Or is it just to torque?

That's only for factory-style TTY - Torque to Yield bolts. Aftermarket bolts and studs are typically torqued to a number value and that's it.
