It would be hilarious if it weren't so sad for the people who live there: 30 km/h, 10 km/h on a mainline railway, stops in the middle of nowhere without any visible infrastructure, leaving one to wonder how people get on and off the train without breaking their neck, and station buildings burnt-down or in ruins. The politicians responsible for this misery should be forced to watch this video every single day. Thanks for documenting all this, Dušan.

Come on, don’t be so negative. There are reasons some countries have less money than others and it’s not only corruption. Serbia had a war going on not so many years ago. I’d prefer a slow train anytime over none. Maybe you can live there with little cost so you can afford to take a little more time to just enjoy life. Most corruption money comes from oil, coal, nuclear and gas industry plus military. Trains never had a lobby.

Consider Denver to Sterling CO, a two hour trip by auto on I-76 vs twelve hours by train, even then we might not make it. Single track, frequent slow orders, stops in sidings for opposing traffic, higher priority traffic, plus the most I could do was sixty mph at run eight. Eighty thousand ton coal trains with ninety to one hundred five cars.

Excelent video, especially the part of Sicevo Gorge. But, the condition of the line is awful - it`s not normal in XXI century to have speed limits like 50, 30, and even 10 km/h(!) on a main line, which connects Belgrade with Sofia and Istanbul. I hope that you can rebuild this line soon, as it needs that urgently. And also put the electrification on. Greetings from Bulgaria, mate, like your videos, keep up the good work! ;)
@carick2354 жыл бұрын
Railways are probably the worst state company of Serbia, so state of this line is normal to them. They even sold (actually just gave away for free because of political favor) and closed The Main Belgrade Station in the city center (in fuction since 1884) because of private residential project, only idiots can do such thing, and on top of that they didn't even complete construction of the new station (it is years away from being completed, although in use lol), which is also on a pretty bad location and with poor public transport connection (most of people living in Belgrade would not know to tell you how to get there if you ask them on the street, can you imagine something like that anywhere for a central station of the city?).
@dulevoz4 жыл бұрын
@ Kosta Shikolarev Thank you! :) There is occasional media mentions for electrification of that line, but the situation is only getting worse, and there is no infrastructure renewal in sight in the near future, unfortunately. I don't know if you can believe that the situation is very similar on the main line between Belgrade and Nis. @ carick235 Everything is written correctly.

I travelled on this line 3 times with the old Istanbul Express between 1989 and 1990. That was before Yugoslav war and Serbia-Kosovo war; anyway trains were riding at this speed, even on the main line south of Belgrade, where every train from Skopje, Greece, Bulgaria and Turkey had to travel to reach Belgrade. Trains were riding very very slow, tracks were in a miserable situation. And war had yet to come.
