4K. ECCLESGREIG CASTLE.
Ecclesgreig castle occupies a commanding Scottish hilltop position, half a mile inland from the village of St. Cyrus. It offers spectacular views over the North Sea and is within easy reach (around 5 miles) of the A90 Aberdeen to Dundee Dual Carrigeway
The castle itself is a grand, elegant building with turrents, portcullis and crow stepped gables. It sits behind an excellent example of renaissance gardening
Bram Stoker is believed to have spent time at Ecclesgreig Castle, leading some to the conclusion that the castle and gardens provided at least some inspiration for the story of Count Dracula
Ecclesgreig Castle, is Victorian Gothic, on a 16th century core. The snowdrop walk (150+ varieties of snowdrop) starts at the castle, meanders around the estate, along woodland paths and the pond, ending at the garden.
In the Italian balustraded gardens there is a 140 feet long herbaceous border, classical statues and stunning shaped topiary with views across St Cyrus to the sea. Started from a derelict site, development continues. Also to be found in the grounds is the well of St Cyrus.
