The lighting and colors in California are so vibrant and gorgeous, it is surreal, such unique sights that are distinctively California and can bee seen or exerienced only there. very surreal, such unbelievable scenery , simply mesmerizing and hard to beliave for someone from germany that this place does in fact exist and is real.

I remember when Signal Hill was covered in oil derricks. So much oil was pumped from that hill I would think it's unstable. There was a street that made you think you were being pulled uphill by magnetic force but was an optical illusion.

The transformation of Signal Hill from an early 20th Century environmental disaster to what it is now is amazing. I remember vividly the forest of wooden oil derricks covering the hill and the stench of crude oil. Ah! The bad ol' days! 😉
