One of those "slow-motion" days..........as the manifest enters the siding, its like the scene in that old movie, "Casablanca", "Here's lookin' at ya, kid!" As for the oil train........eons ago, they called coal trains "black snakes", that would be fitting for today's oil trains. Thanks for having a lot of patience with the slow movers, and also for braving the elements filming them!

Hurraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, the snowman is back. Nice to see how the train creeps into the opposite track. Do you have a regulation at what maximum speed you can drive? How heavy is the oil train when it is loaded? Yes I know, ask about questions. Greetings from Berlin/ Germany. Sven
@PacificNWRailfan2 жыл бұрын
Yea, had an hour and a half wait for a train. There are speed limits for both freight and passenger trains and the speed limit depends on which section they are on. On this subdivision the maximum speed for freight is 60 mph. I really don't know what the weight of the oil train is. Thanks for watching my friend.

Can I ask about the hoppers immediately behind the two lead CP units and ahead of the trailing unit on the oil train? Do they serve a special purpose? Beautifully shot, as always. Gosh, but you live in some stunning country!
@PacificNWRailfan2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Bruce, I really appreciate that. Those hoppers are "buffer cars", they were basically mandated by the FRA to help protect the crews and the help prevent fires, in the event of an accident or derailment. They are required on any train that has a hazmat load between the locomotive and the railcar. If it's a mixed freight they require five buffer cars but for some reason they allow only one on an oil train. Thanks for watching my friend.

Those unit oil tankers are so impressive. Since they're mainly given priority they seldom sit anywhere long enough for some idiot to run up and tag them, so they usually look nice and clean. Excellent catch, great video.
@PacificNWRailfan2 жыл бұрын
Thanks J. Lewis. Most railcars are vandalized when they are sitting on a spur where the get loaded/unloaded or stored. The oil train load and unload facilities are pretty secure so the cars a not accessible. Thanks for watching my friend.

By the looks of the snow amount you do not want to be on the switch cleaning crew this winter, there looked to be a MOW truck coming in.
@PacificNWRailfan2 жыл бұрын
They have covers that go over the switches to keep the snow out and the rails around the switch are heated. The MOW crew was there to replace a rail in the switch, that's why there was a slow order for the trains. Thanks for watching my friend.

Danke Heinz, das weiß ich sehr zu schätzen. Die Pferdestärken variieren je nach Modell der Lokomotive, aber die meisten in diesen Videos haben eine Nennleistung von 4400 PS.
