I've read in several places that the elevator installed so that the disabled can access this park, are frequently broken. Just like their continuing subway accessibility ADA compliance issues. I grew up in NYC and miss it, but I can't see giving my disposable income to a city that still doesn't comply wth the ADA. Looking to take my first vacation in decades. I've emailed the city to ask about it, received no reply... twice. I grew up in NYC but I'm taking my money and myself to somewhere else. Saying "we're working on it" doesn't cut it, even if they'd bothered to respond. Sad. I'd really like to see it, among other places I'd frequented as a kid. Also miss Lincoln Center, Chinatown, Central Park, the Guggie, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Natursl History Museum. But not gonna travel on a miserable airline trip onkynto find out NYC still has a long way to go. Apparently their tourism is only for ablebodied, young people.

What a fantastic video. My wife and I saved for 18 months to enjoy our honeymoon in New York over Christmas 2014. Watching this video has brought back so many wonderful memories of our time there. If anyone reads this and you are planning a trip to NYC, then please allow time to visit The High line and relax for an afternoon. You will not be disappointed!!

So much has changed over the years. The building on the right where the wooden banquets and seating are on the left used to be a Mobile Station with a Dunkin' Donuts. The IAC building on the left at the beginning was one of the first buildings to go in that was new.

I still go to Sardi's, and Del Frisco's..Keens's...Just to name a few...But, like I say I take it for granted....PS: I do spend alot of time in FL. now...

What a great use of something which was abandoned and forgotten. It has been brought back to life beautifully for everyone, those who reside and those who visit, the great city of New York. Whomever was the initiator of this idea, deserves a statue somewhere along the High Line.

27:24 - 28:55 Thank you for this. The High Line at the Rail Yards viewing spot, West 33rd. Start at the Megabus Stop on West 34th and walk to the Rail Depot. We built those wooden tiered benches back in 2013. I sanded everyone of those monsters and helped with the sealer. 2014, we went to the installation to put on the final coats on ours and redo the slatted benches on the Interim Walkway from West 30th to West 34th. I wondered if they were still there. I'm happy.

European parks were privately owned by royalty. The idea of green public parks owned and protected by, and for p, its citizenry is an American invention. A place where poor immigrants could stroll alongside rich people, learn to assimilate, is purely American. Central Park originally even had public free showers, and classes in English and other subjects, as well as doctors to examine their health. The idea of reclaiming a railway or another abandoned, unsightly industrial location, is also purely American. The architects who did it, are visited and consulted. People visit places like the Highline, then return to their own cities searching for abandoned railways so they can imitate it! You can see examples online of different, inventive park ideas in an American PBS television show about the ten best parks in America. It even recently re-aired in my city. :). There's also a TV show about Olmstead, the man responsible for Central Park. He developed other parks as well. He's been imitated countless times. You'd enjoy both shows.

The High Line. Where walking is a professional sport! It’s beautiful, and I love the concept. But! I just know that I don’t possess enough patience to deal with a crowd like that. @openlc5557 жыл бұрын
You did a good job filming and walking through the 1.45 miles. Now I know what to expect from the High Line and will definitely walk the whole length when I am in NYC next time.
@mexiricansister81425 жыл бұрын
I think it is longer than that. I have walked it 3 times. I think the first time it was 1.45, then a couple years later they added another mile. The last time I was there Dec 2017 they were adding The Spur which takes you to lower ground and that looks like another mile. Would love to know from a NY'er who has walked and tracked it on their fit bit. It does not say on the website how long it is. At least I could not find it.

In this pandemic, its funny (well, not so funny) how your ears automatically perk up when someone coughs in the background; there is no such thing as a casual cough anymore; not in my neck of the woods, anyhow. Kinda like being in a episode of the Walking Dead. Cough into your arm, folks. And please stay healthy, Wind Walk and viewers.

Lemme tell you it felt like I was back home where it had lots of trees and plants around my grandfathers house it just felt that comfortable including the green plants and trees in the botanical gardens it was lovely yea but I wasn't too used to it and I didn't know how to describe that the best part about the high line is that its somewhat long is what I've been told and it has an awesome view man its like looking at the fucking beach in person.
